Have a few ideas what Nanci means but don't want to give away with guesses.

PS - Group in question was from a High School........ (Mebbe a hint)

If the reference is, "this fine outfit can be presented at any time as a band or as a corps by just switching equipment in the brass and reed lines", I am so over the band versus drum corps discussion. (And I predict in no time flat this will become yet another George Hopkins bashing thread.) On the other hand, if this has anything to do with encouraging Hopkins to book the Cadets for Carnegie Hall, count me in.

I'm sure Nanci will explain the next time she posts.

And at her current rate, her next post will be about mid August (and I ain't saying which year ^0^ ).

Trying again.

Not to take anything from Nancy, but the Loris Marching Lions competed in Florida a few times during the mid-60s. They used our practice facilities in fact, and we (Miami Vanguards) hung out with them. In short, they had a fully competitive drum corps show, then performed in exhibition as a high school band.

If I recall, they even had maroon uniforms, George.

They were well received for their trans-idiom show, so I guess we dinosaurs weren't so bad. Of course, they never contended for anything serious, either. I wonder if band directors today would let their clarinet players switch back and forth to bugles?

Thanks for the memories, Nancy.

"Isn't it obvious? George Hopkins should buy equipment from St. Mary's and then leave for New York."
