This is definitely one idea that "worked" and is still working...

Yes! The Class A program is faaaaantastic!

:blink::lol: Always thought this was one of DCAs best changes.

Beats the old way of "start up" corps getting their brains kicked in by the big guns. There was a reason why the smaller corps had their own circuit. (Been there, got clobbered by that)

Amen to that... Pretty much all the senior hardware in my neck of the woods goes to Brass. They're great people and all, but after spending the summer getting spanked by them it's nice to go up against some more reasonable competition.

Question: If a Class A corps was to bump up into Open finals, would they be forced to remain in Open class the following year? Or could the corps return to Class A, should their staff feel that this was appropriate?

declaring yourself Class A by June 1st is an option open to any corps with fewer than 65 performers (not counting A section) - theoretically, the open champion from the previous year could have a terrible winter and only have 65 performers in May and declare Class A... unlikely, but the exaggeration certainly answers your question. No, you would not be "forced" to compete in open class the following season... However, it's really a pretty moot point for all of the regular season since all corps compete together with no class distinction until championships.

However, you can't decide after June 1st that you'll cut a few people to reach the limit and take a shot at performing on Sunday in one of the 3 Class A spots... just because you're not scoring well and think in open you might get Knocked out... that's why the June 1st rule exists... this is really to protect the class A corps, by guaranteeing that an open class corps won't back in to one of those precious 3 spots on Sunday night.
