melloguy05
it'll be good practice for that rumored phoenix regional next year... average high temps the past week up there have been in the 112 area Yes, but that might be in the new Cardinals Stadium, which has a retractable roof. At least I think it does...
ApocalypseTissue
when I was hanging around "spring" training at Crown this year, it was extremely humid, and got VERY hot on some occasions. The staff was very good about giving water breaks, and from what I could tell, they had a lot of fruit.~>conner I would imagine so. In Drum Corps, you get yelled at for not hydrating yourself. Honestly it's for your own health and the corps' benefit. I don't think I've ever seen staff take away water for punishment. Then again I've only marched 2 years. Euphscott
It's no fun - as Chris indicated above - we rehearsed Saturday in 106 - and that's all us old folks in the DCA corps! It is brutal. My stomach hurt so bad from all the water I was ingesting and I was still a little dehydrated the next day. Here's hoping the break we are hoping for will arrive in time for the corps to hit town. mellos
The Crossmen are enduring the heat as well as to be expected. We are trying everything we can keep them hydrated, and cool, but the staff can only do so much. The other day in Kansas, the kids were able to hit the pool after rehearsal and it was heavenly! Check out the new addition to the uniform! PEACE!
DCfan48060
Battle Creek was intense this past Saturday. I can't imagine how the corps were able to cope. In fact, after Madison's show one guard member was throwing up water, and had to be helped off the field. I hope he recovered okay. Yes it was defnitely insanely hot. Only two performances into the show, EMS was escorting someone down who had passed out from the heat. I was with my dad and he left the stands and sat down below in the shade for a while and he said EMS was there most of the night helping people. The Battle Creek HS Band Boosters tried hard, but just were not capable of meeting the needs for people as far as water and Gatorade. kusankusho
yeah, they were mostly in the shade today. which helps, but it's still pretty bad. I'm thinking of going to their night rehearsal (in the KU stadium) since it will be cooler out. This is when I'm glad I didn't go into the guard. The music sections all dive for shade for sectionals - the guard is always out on the field in full sun. And they're dancing and running and spinning. dks
Someone send me a chain email about thinking about the soldiers in Iraq in the heat. I just checked and it is supposed to be 117 there today. I am so thankful that my son is in Kansas! It is amazing what young people can do when they set their minds to it. dks

I remember one day of practice (way back when) in Dallas. The staff made us all get up early and said they would let us have from 10 to 2 off because of the heat. Well, needless to say when 10:00 rolled around the horns and drums went inside to practice and the guard had to stay outside. We ended up practicing all day! Not far! I know, I know - life isn't fair!
Piper
all these kids are whiners...during wrestling season we crank up the heat in the wrestling room to 110 and the humidity is ridiculous..and we wrestle is sweats....anything outside in shorts is weak sauce..hahah obviously joking well about the whining part lol Ain't no lol about it bud. You dehydrate sometime, and then come back to me (if you make it back) and shout out an lol. I'll bet you'll be thankful you're still alive. That's no joke. It's serious business, and if not properly attended to, it can kill you in a heartbeat. I hope it never happens to you.
