From The Pressbox
I have the official DCI recaps for those years ad there is no Guuard caption listed on either 91 or 92's Finals recaps. Sorry. I hope there out there somewhere..... Gregg
PJS53
Unless I'm badly mistaken the Colorguard as a judged caption is a fairly recent developement. Anyone know when that happened?
byline
Unless I'm badly mistaken the Colorguard as a judged caption is a fairly recent developement. Anyone know when that happened? Actually, no, the points given color guard as part of the total score are a new development, but guards have been judged at least as far back as when I started marching (1978). Back then, guards were given a total score of 2 points, so scores were awarded in tenths of points (1.7, 2.0, etc.). I don't know who won best guard in '91 and '92, though. Maybe a search through RAMD will turn that up.
byline
OK, this RAMD thread says Cadets won guard in '91, Blue Devils in '92. However, I also found another post saying that Blue Devils won best guard in 1991. That was their "Conversations in Blue" show, where they had such an amazing sabre line. But '91 was also when Cadets did their "ABC's of Modern American Music" music show, and they had a really superb guard. So I'm betting that '91 is correct for Cadets. Blue Devils sound right for '92. That's when they did their "Big, Bad and Blue" show. Didn't much care for shows that year, so nothing really stands out in my mind, other than the Cadets' propellers. Tekneek
'91 was Conversations in Blue? I thought it was Coversations In Jazz. All I can remember is Adventures In Time being in it.

You're right, that was the whole "Bird & Bela" show. I morphed "Conversations in Jazz" with the following year's "Big, Bad and Blue." That's what I get for posting before my morning coffee! :P

IllianaLancerContra
1991: star of indiana1992: Cavaliers Cavvies should have won it all in 91. Star was flat at finals (I was there). Cavvies were on fire. Consensus around me (side 2, 0 yard line, absolute top row) was cavvies 1st, SCV 2nd, Phantom 3rd, Star 4th. Even Rondo said on the broadcast that Star was off that night. byline
1991: star of indiana1992: Cavaliers I'll reprise Geoff's list in this thread. Yes, Star won DCI in '91, Cavies in '92, but the guard award those years went to Cadets in '91, Blue Devils in '92.
