susantaylor40
what are you guys talking about, the broadcast was the same crap when it was on pbs. pbs hadnt put out a good cast in years Maybe true, but we up in the great white north could at least be able to catch the broadcast on pbs.... need to find someone who has satilite and subscribes to espn2 and enjoys drum corps and is willing to allow 100 people into his livingroom to watch and supply the beer and munchies to go along with it and is willing to clean up the mess by himself while avoiding the 50 or so people sleeping it off b**bs Edited August 20, 2006 by susantaylor40

euphonium96
I just wonder what the sports books do during the broadcast - I guess I'll have to mosey on down to the local casino on the 5th and find out. Any other Vegas corps people want to find out? For those who have never been, or are simply not old enough to visit a book, it is a medium to large sized hall with comfy seats - sometimes overstuffed leather couches - and gianormous flat screen TVs broadcasting every major sports network - most books here in the valley have at least 8 screens going, with ESPNs and Fox Sports showing non-stop. Yes, there's a counter where you can place bets, and boards showing the odds and favorites to win, spreads, etc. (Hmm... wonder if I can place a bet on the Cavaliers to win... he he he) Most also have food and drink service available in the betting and viewing areas... The only thing that might prevent "DCI in the Sports Book" is horse racing... <**> but I don't see any races scheduled for 9/5. ... I just wonder what they'd make of me and mine if we went there just to watch the DCI telecast. I know my favorite local place even has a projection screen in the bar - perhaps they'd put the DCI broadcast up if enough people asked for it and ordered enough drinks or something... :)

jonnyboy
ESPN 2 is cable, therefore it is not free and you pay for it. By the way, I absolutly LOVE all of the behind the scene stuff. I miss "On the road again" to Willie Neson's tune of the same name. I wish they would do some of the behind the scenes stuff a little better to try and really givea feel for how a corps tours down the road. I'll watch ESPN 2 while I'm missing the PBS style broadcast (no commercials). Just know that this braodcast is better for the activity as a whole. The PBS style had commercials... they just had the announcers asking for your donations to the station, and that took the place of commercials.
