wow, you'd think it was the off season or sumfin'... ;)

marching, does drum corps do that anymore?

band, usually means a group of woodwinds, brass, and percussion, altho can sometimes refer to just brass and percussion ("brass band" for example)

drum corps, what we call our "units" (can't call 'em drum and BUGLE corps anymore) = marching brass and percussion

drum corps is marching band since band can be just brass

not all marching bands are drum corps, however. Some of them are (those that are part of DCI, DCA, DCE, etc.). However, high school and university marching bands are not drum corps.

edit: drum corps are a specialized type of marching band that not every marching band can claim to be.

Perhaps we should call it "jazz-running band"?

I have a question. If Drum Corps were so assimilated to Marching Bands, then why would the owners of DCP have seperate websites for both? I think that we all know the answer to that.

Man, it used to be so simple to differentiate between corps and bands. Anyone remember when "Leave It To Beaver" was on TV?

the Beaver-" W-Wally? What are those guys doin' over there on that football field?"

Wally- "Gee Beaver, that's the high school marching band!"

the Beaver- "Well, who are those OTHER guys marching on the OTHER football field?"

Wally- "Well, I don't know Beave. Let's ask Dad.

Cut to Cleaver's kitchen.....

Ward Cleaver- "Boys, that's a drum and bugle corps! In fact, I used to march with them back when I was just about your age, Wally."

the Beaver- "So, how come you didn't march with the high school band dad?"

Wally- "Don't be so stupid Beave....marching bands SUCK!"

Ward Cleaver- "That's right, Wally. Let this be a lesson to you Beaver. March drum corps."

the Beaver- "Yeah, marching band SUCKS!"

Fade to Alka-Seltzer commercial.

:P b**bs

Aww, that's cute. Except for the part where you insult Drum Corps biggest recruiting base. Why don't people understand that Drum Corps can stand on it's own merits, without bashing marching band?
