drumlaw80
I hereby propose the existence of Drum Corps United, a new drum corps organization dedicated to one principle -- working together for the common good. Drum Corps United is not meant to compete with DCI, DCA, WGI, MBA or any other entity. Drum Corps United is not "against" anyone or anything. Drum Corps United is simply an alliance of drum corps who commit to the principle that the best way for ALL drum corps to succeed, is through mutual cooperation and assistance in as many areas as possible. drumlaw80
A political action group? It would only work if you have shows :) It will work. SoCal Dream and Renegades proved last year that drum corps can happily cooperate in many areas, yet still compete for the 11 minutes they are on the field. For example -- Renegades and Dream hosted a concert together, had a joint drum line warm-up (Sunnyvale), rented a semi-truck together to get all of our equipment out for DCA, shared rehearsal facilities in CA, had multiple parties, had even had staff members from each corps helping the other corps at times. In fact, Dream's President helped Renegades pick our show this year, during one chaotic bar-hopping adventure in Los Angeles with Chris Nalls and Greg Gilman. It was a win-win for both corps, and the plan is to expand the Dream/Renegades relationship even further this year (the huge LMS LA 2 concert is in the planning stages right now). Maybe I am an idiot for thinking this way, but I believe that instead of taking votes away, we should be giving more corps the opportunity to vote ... and ramp this activity up past the point where DCI has taken it. I know that no one wants to hear that right now, and Renegades representatives might even be yelled at again in January because I spoke out ... but that's how I feel. I am not sorry for speaking out, and I know in my heart that I am not wrong. If we all work together = SUCCESS FOR ALL. drumlaw80
Now that I have heard from the administration of SoCal Dream, let me change this announcement a bit. I am proud to announce the formation of Drum Corps United, the the first two members being SoCal Dream and the San Francisco Renegades. The Drum Corps United website is going up, and other steps are being taken to formailze the organization. It is time for self-centered animosity in drum corps to end. I hereby extend a formal invitation to other senior corps to join the Drum Corps United alliance. Again, Drum Corps United is not "against" any other corps or organization. Drum Corps United is ONLY dedicated to the principle of drum corps working together in a spirirt of friendly cooperation, for the good of all. If Drum Corps United ends up being only two corps, fine, but we will make a difference.
