dbc03
they may not be half bad but they're not insanely good or efficient for that matter Yeah, those other corps aren't good at all.
Cavalier2123
I just don't see how you can take a straight line to each form without having an accordion effect on spacing. How does that work? lol?
dbc03
Alright then, enlighten us. I just don't see how you can take a straight line to each form without having an accordion effect on spacing. How does that work? That does happen with certain drill moves, but I believe that most of their drill is designed to not do that.
dbc03
lol? Excellent response that totally answers his perfectly reasonable question.
raphael18
In theory the majority of forms can be created by taking a straight path - however, there are exceptions where reshapes come into play. At Regiment we used the W-pull during in transitions to clean up the drill (check out 91 for the largest one ever at about 4:41). Regardless, if every person in the form takes a straight path with even size steps it is theoretically possible to rotate a line...but for some reason it never seems to work that way - human error is a fact of life. Not being a Cavalier, I have no idea how they deal with this, but my guess is that by making the number of counts smaller (say 4 or 6 instead of 10 or 12) between moves they are able to write the drill in a manner that avoids these situations. FieldofBlueDreams
they may not be half bad but they're not insanely good or efficient for that matter ahhh, i see. bd with 11 rings and 20 jim ott high brass titles... cadets with 9 championships... i guess those corps are okay too... RegimentContra94
lol? The best part is some people don't understand why some people don't like the Cavaliers! If a line is at an angle and it is going to a front, if you take a straight line path to that spot, the spacing will close a little and then open up again at the end. I'm sorry Mr. Cavalier if you don't understand that. Have you ever used a protractor or compass? The point is clearly demonstrated. In order to avoid this, many corps use a curved path. Apparently the Cavaliers do not use curved paths, so my question is how do they avoid this effect? In theory, you could make several low count moves, but that seems rather inefficient. I use dots when cleaning drill, and I'm interested in the full dot only system that Cavaliers use, because visually they are quite stunning, however, I can't seem to get a Cavalier to explain it. They all seem to want to "LOL" for no apparent reason.

RegimentContra94
That doesn't really help me out. How is it written to avoid that? I'm looking for some concrete insight into the dot only system.
