The Heat Wave Drum and Bugle Corps is pleased to announce its 2007 Staff. We have assembled the finest instructors to aide us on our return to the field. The entire staff shares the new vision of Heat Wave and are planning to work hard to achieve that goal. Please welcome our 2007 staff!

Program Coordinator / Brass Caption Head – Mark Cole

Mr. Cole is a doctoral fellow at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he teaches courses in arts and humanities and music education. Mark is completing his Ph.D. in music education. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Music Degree in wind conducting from the Florida State University. He has been director of bands at Ridgewood High School, the 5-time Florida Marching Band Tournament Grand Champion, Cypress Creek High School, and most recently at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, which won the 2006 Down Beat Magazine Student Music Award for the best arts school symphonic band in the nation. He was also on the design team staff with the 1995 DCI finalist Magic of Orlando. During his career as a Navy musician, he served as Musical Director of the Midshipman Drum and Bugle Corps at the U.S. Naval Academy, Director, Navy Band Memphis, Director, Sixth Fleet Band in Naples, Italy, and also served as the Assistant Director/Associate Conductor of the United States Navy Band in Washington, DC. Mr. Cole composes and arranges for high school bands around the country and is in frequent demand as a guest clinician, consultant and conductor. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha, Music Educators National Conference, the College Music Society, the Central States Judges Association and was selected for inclusion in the 2007 Who’s Who in America. He has also performed with such notables as Dick Morgan, Herb Ellis and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra.

Brass Arranger – Mark Cole

Brass Tech – Gary Hernandez

Gary is very active in the Central Florida music community. Gary is the band director at Avalon Middle School in Orlando, FL. Gary has also spent time as a brass tech for championship bands such as Timber Creek and Winter Springs High Schools. Gary is also a member of the UCF Band Alumni Association.

Brass Consultant – Sgt. Chad Kirk USMC Drum and Bugle Corps

Chad returns to Heat Wave as a brass consultant after departing the corps in 2002 to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. Previously, Chad had served as Brass Caption Head in the 2001-2002 seasons, as well as visual staff and Vice-President of the Board of Directors. After enlisting in for service in "The Commandant's Own", the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, Chad continued support of Heat Wave as the Colors bearer for the honor guard, and assisting in an instructional role where needed. While serving in "The Commandant's Own", Chad has performed in front of thousands of citizens, foreign dignitaries, President Bush, Vice-President Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and many other high ranking officials. Chad was a featured soloist during the 2005 Live CD Recording in Dallas, Texas which will be released soon. He is the current Euphonium section leader, marking the first time the Marine Corps has marched euphoniums. Chad is also the current Drill Master and Brass Consultant for the United States Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, a position he has held since 2003. Chad has performed Live on PBS, Fox, ESPN, and ABC, and has shared the stage with Arturo Sandoval, Trace Atkins, Michael Buble', Al Chez, Barry Bostwick, and others. Chad's previous instructional and marching experience includes Magic of Orlando, Teal Sound, Boston Crusaders, Heat Wave, Lake Howell High School, West Orange High School, Dr. Phillips High School, Colonial High School, and Boone High School. Chad is currently an endorser for IYM Corp., manufacturer of the "Maximus" line of euphonium and baritone mouthpieces, and the "Larry Kerchner Mellophone Mouthpiece" currently used by The Cavaliers of Rosemont, IL. http://iymcorp.com. He was recently married to Gabrielle, of Staten Island, New York.

Percussion Caption Head / Arranger – Ron Lambert

Ron Lambert currently serves as the Assistant Band Director at Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton, FL. Mr. Lambert has served as Caption Head for marching percussion Director of the HOT Indoor Percussion Theater at the University of South Florida. His duties included arranging for the Herd of Thunder Drum Line (HOTDL) and the Indoor Percussion Theater (IPT), as well as an ensemble technician and equipment specialist. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois and is a former member of The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps and Marching Illini Band.

Mr. Lambert is also an active educator on the high school level. He is the Assistant Director of Bands at Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton Florida, and he composes and consults for several high school ensembles in Central Florida. His percussion ensembles consistently perform at the State Superior level, and his private students can be found in the best collegiate studios and DCI lines.

Ron is also a professional drummer who covers many musical styles at church, in the studio, on stage, and on the road. He spent many years establishing a career Sunday November 27, 2005 or musical productions at the famous Drury Lane Theater, and can be heard on recordings by Chris Greene and New Perspective, Lauretta Tagli, The Tommy Bradford Quartet, and more. He has performed in many of Chicago's legendary venues - The Metro, The Vic, The Backroom and Grant Park's Taste of Chicago to name a few, and has worked on jingles for national campaigns such as Corn Nuts and Blockbuster Video.

Ron Lambert is a former student of Bret Kuhn, James Campbell, Joe Cartegena, Scott Johnson, Kevin Lepper, Bernard Purdie, and other notables. His Artist endorsements include Innovative Percussion, Yamaha Band and Orchestral, and Zildjian Cymbal Corporation.

Front Ensemble – John Stewart

John is the band director at St. Cloud High School in St. Cloud, FL. Mr. Stewart is also the Program Coordinator for 1st Degree Indoor Drum line. John brings with him a strong sense of pride and confidence.

Percussion Tech – Mike Daugherty

After taking a season off to focus on his family and career, Mike returns to the corps with the determination and perseverance to increase numbers and make this the best drum line Heat Wave has ever fielded. As a seven year veteran, Mike has won two “Top Drums” captions, as well as a DCA Class A championship.

In 1997 Mike began his marching career at the Florida Air Academy. Two years later he was then approached to join the Heat Wave drum line. After being taught by Vic Kulinski and Joe Southard, his hard work and dedication led him to assist the instruction of the Boone High School Drum line in Orlando Florida. Heat Wave is definitely proud to have Mike on board as a staff member from now and future years to come.

Percussion Tech – CJ Matthews

CJ is a long time member of Heat Wave. A graduate of Osceola High School, and current student of Florida’s famed Embry Riddle University, CJ offers solid experience and expertise. CJ will be working with his section, bass drums.

Percussion Consultant – Joe Southard

Joe has served on Heat Wave's staff as the Percussion Caption Head for the last three years. Joe brings a high level of professionalism and intensity to the corps which will be translated into a sizzling hot 2007 show. Joe comes to Heat Wave after having been the Percussion Head/Arranger for the Kiwanis Kavaliers. Joe's drum corps experience started with the Florida Wave from South Florida, he then marched with the Blue evils of Concord Calif. in the early 90's. After aging out, Joe started his teaching career with the upstart Florida Guardsmen.

Visual Caption Head – Trevor Rigby

Trevor is a graduate of the University of Central Florida. At UCF, Trevor performed with the Marching Knights and eventually became drum major. Currently Trevor is the Brass Caption Head for University High School. At UHS and Timber Creek High Schools, Trevor served as a visual tech. Trevor also lent his visual experience to The Magic Drum and Bugle Corps. Trevor’s marching experience includes the Blue Devils and The Magic.

Drill Writer – Tim Gallagher

Tim has a special story. Tim is a charter member of Heat Wave and was the original drum major of the corps. Tim's role with Heat Wave will comprise of drill design and visual effect. Tim is currently a Math & Computer Science teacher and director of the Winter Springs High School Pure Gold Color Guard. Tim served as show designer / marching instructor at numerous area high schools including: Cocoa Beach, Lincoln, Auburndale, Leesburg, and Cypress Creek. Tim marched with Florida Wave, University of Miami, and finally Heat Wave of Orlando.

Color Guard Caption Head – Alisha Lemay

Alisha served as Guard Director for Del Oro High School in Loomis, Ca. Additionally Alisha was a guard tech for Pacific Alliance Winter guard, 29 Palms High School, and Roseville High School. Alisha has marched with the Renegades, River City Regiment, and the Freelancers Drum and Bugle Corps.

It's an honor to be on board with Heatwave and I promise that I will do my best to make this a year to remember.

Wow! Chad got married?!?... er... I mean. Great job! I can't wait to see you guys next year.

Yea he got married Labor Day weekend this year. That's why he didn't go to DCA.
