madalumni
That is him. He was the soloist in '88. Dang - sorry to correct you again man, but the mello soloist in 88 was Kent Rockow.
bradrick
The picture quality is pretty low, but here's group of the contras representing Drum Corps Midwest on the 1988 All Star trip to the Orange Bowl. Very cool to get to hang out with this many different corps all at once and not have the tension of the drum corps season in the air - since it was December/January. :P How many different corps can you count? I count 12 .. but I could be wrong. Nice to see Cory Shear (femme contra from Northern Aurora) down front. I forgot she was even on that trip. I have the panorama shot of the full corps from that day ... but I doubt I could scan it.

Do you remember how long we had to stand on the bleachers waiting for the shadow of that building to move out of the frame? Geeze what a snafu that was. The picture on my wall still shows a huge shadow in the corner. The Sky Ryder contingent got somebody to take our picture after that.... sigh... memories... bradrick
Here's a pic somebody took from the back of SCV's retreat block after finals in 1988. If you look closely, you can see a Blue Devil (uniform with the grey pants) on the right side of the block. And maybe the elbow of a Madison scout on the left? That's strange, because wasn't the order of the top 5 in Finals. 1. BD 2. SCV 3. Cavies 4. Madison 5. Garfield. I think we were next to you in retreat, and I know BD was on the other side. Were we next to you. I'll never forget you guys blast The Music of the Night our way......chills!!!!
bradrick
OK, a few more... The 1988 Sky Ryder Contra Section at our championship week housing site near Kansas City.. Certainly one of the most solid, hardworking, fun groups of guys I was ever anywhere near. Left to Right: Ricky (was DM for Railmen the previous year), D.J., Randy, me, Chris Proctor (his dad became Sky's Corps Director in 90), Russ (became Phantom' DM in 90), Brett (became brass instructor for Colts), Bryan The beer toast after our soli in "The Lonely Goatherd" - during our final runthough. Checking out the field, getting ready for our Finals performance. The kneel at the end of the opener. Finals performance, Contra soli in "Goatherd". (I'm the spread eagle one! That would probably cripple me for life if I tried that right now!) Drum feature in "Goatherd". Look at the stride of those the sops! Woohoo! SkyRyder_FMM
I remember Montreal too.. I think it was 89, because the next year we did Vancouver instead.Along that line of thinking: These people were all so cool and so much fun to know - that I can still remember many of their names almost 20 year later (although some of them, I already knew from Sky Ryders etc.): These are from the 1988 All Star Drum and Bugle Corps trip to Orlando/Miami. We're near the entrance to EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World. Easily the most fun I EVER had associated with drum corps. Some of the names I can remember from this bunch are (roughly from left to right - sorry if I skip people. Maybe others can identify the ones I can't?): Brian ??, Tim Kviz (active DCP poster), Jeff (J.D) Shaw, behind him in sunglasses is Spaz, Clay Wacholz, Dan Feeney, Mike Ellis, Brian Hildreth, Chris Harmon, Kevin Vukosovic, Julie Slick, Brian Harrison. Most of the same people in this one, but in the middle looking to the right is Bill Zier (went to Madison after this and is now at B.D. - visual staff) Great pics of a great trip there Brad. You forgot to mention that the DCM All Star marching drill down champ in in that pic (shameless plug )
