elayes
Hey, I'm in this picture, 4th flag from the right. I'd already spent 2 years in the A corps, who didn't put out a competitive winter guard that year. Shirley Stratton was teaching this guard, which was made up of girls from the lower units. They had a last minute flag hole so I filled it for the season. The trip north for this show was also memorable, mostly for the housing they provided for us. I don't remember the name of the "school" but it turned out to be a facility for the mentally handicapped. We moved our stuff into the gym and they informed us we would be "locked in for OUR safety"! We ended up moving to my (very generous) aunt and uncle' house for the rest of the weekend.

I liked your photo. btw Electra Blue ’77 came in 3rd on Sunday. We were 5th. We stayed at a similar institution England 1977. It was vacant, 3 stories, full kitchen and a bath house (tubs, no showers) our home away from home for 6 weeks. My memory of an odd place was a school in San Luis Obispo summer of 78, crickets in the gym and we showered in shoes. The girls were told to zip up their suitcases but the next day, while we were on the road, we played a new bus game called ‘Catch the Cricket’. A lot of girls got the flu on our way to Concord during spring break 1977. The entire corps went south to get a start on our field show ‘cause the snow melts mid-May. We had about 5 holes in our winter guard show due to illness. I was guard tech for Ventures 74-75. I found a roster which lists 41 guard, average age 13 ½, included 17 rookies. According to my notes 1 quit, 2 went to the horn line and 2 went to the drum line. Hope I gave the kids kudos at their winter guard contest. I’m proud of the Ventures, then and now. pearlsnaredrummer77
Cool shot. I love the gogo boots. A little before my time, but I always love that "vintage" look.

If you have to outfit 100 members in an all girls drum corps, ya gotta find a shoe sale ;-) An ad from Spring 1974 “Toronto Corps Life!” newsletter.
