Tom Brace Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I was involved in another thread discussing a past show that was actually stronger mid-season than it was at finals. I thought it might be interesting to discuss shows, that in your opinion, we stronger at mid-season than at the end of the year, what was done and what should have been done instead to make it stronger by year's end. The broad categories would be Clean It, Change It, and/or Water It. Two examples of what I am referring to from last season. 1. Bluecoats' show. It was clearly one of the hottest brass books out there last year. They chose to water it. I would have chosen clean it. They slipped from mid-season to where they finished in finals. 2. Crown's show. They were getting fan awards after fan awards throughout the early part of the season. They chose to change little bits and to clean it. I would have chosen more changes to keep it fresh. Those are my thoughts on two shows from last year. Again, this could be any year and any show. Quote
wvu80 Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Garfield Cadets 1983 had screamin' sop parts early to mid season, which made the show really exciting. At finals, it was professional and polished, but it had all the high parts taken out. It was clean, but not as exciting as it could have been. Quote
Fievel Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 (edited) I'd still like to have seen the early season version of SCV 1992 cleaned up. In fact, I'd just like to see the early season version of SCV 1992 again period!! Such a cool show. Edited May 10, 2008 by Fievel Quote
TealEuph7 Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 96 Scouts would have been better if they had cleaned it up a bit more (visually) butit was still awesome Quote

Fievel Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 (edited) Was there much difference? Care to share some details for those who have never seen it I'm sure I'll forget a lot or get details wrong... I saw it once at Madison's home show. It was truly a tribute to the old Fiddler show. It seemed like an Old-Meets-New show. The guard had the typical number of equipment changes throughout the show (they used one flag at Finals). I remember seeing sparkle-finished drums at one point - was it a drum solo? I don't remember if there were props or not. Honestly, my memories are almost completely faded of it now (16 years later!!). I just remember that what I saw early was miles away from what was at Finals. ...and if anyone can correct my memories or add to them, it would be most appreciated. AlanAndreasen Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 In this old farts memory... I saw SCV 92 early in the season at the Sacramento show and then next at finals in Madison. My biggest memory is with the changes in the guard performance. Early in the season the guard had several flags and they did this dance with (gold menorahs) with was to die for. Honestly, the menorah piece was one of the most beautiful moments in drum corps I have ever witnessed. Come Finals they had one flag (black if my addled memory serves me correctly). IMHO the visual package just collapsed throughout the season. Hey, these are just one guy's memories so please don't flame me - it was 16 years ago after all. Please correct me if I got things wrong here. Oh, and by the way, I love all corps as I learn something with every show. Having said that, Vanguard are my all time favorite corps. Quote
Coathope Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 My first thought was Bluecoats '07. Same here. The mello alarm runs at the end and all the tuba licks were to die for. R.I.P Bluecoats amazing runs. November 2006-July 2007. Quote
