brown55061 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Holy crap! Crown scored 83.0 at Rome, NY. If the Cadets weren't there and scored an 81.7 I wouldn't think much of it. I think it's time to consider some big upsets at the top this year. I realize its still just July but scoring doesnt change THAT much. I think Crown can pretty much solidify a top 3 position so long as they don't get an ego in July. Until the bigger events take place this month we wont really know how they stack up against eachother but I think the top 7 is going to be hugely competetive come August. I'm torn because I want SCV to break top 3, but I also want to see holy name, the bluecoats and Phantom do well. August is gonna be exciting, hang on to your nipples everyone!!! Quote

Cough.. As we have all seen in the past, there can be someone on top for awhile and then BAM! outta nowhere knocked outta first place on Finals night. With that said, I would love to see Crown win. I predicted 2 years ago that Crown would be the next New Corps to win DCI, and I would like to be right. PS, Hang on to your nipples!!!!! HAHAHA Quote
ouooga Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 The only thing I'm wondering is if Crown's show is easy, or at least easier than the shows it's competing against. This was my thought on Bluecoats 2007 - it was a great show, but just a little easier than it could have been for that corps. As a result, they rocked it out all season, and early season it was scoring high, but once the other corps got better at their shows they passed Bluecoats by a lot. That show didn't have enough room to grow. I've only seen videos of Crown. Can anyone comment if this is the case? Quote

I think the consensus (for what it's worth) is that it's their best visual (drill) package ever, probably also their hardest? It's also generally thought it's their hardest drum book as well, at least this decade. I'm not sure about brass or guard, though. Quote

IMO I think their show is full of demand and will be more easily noticed as they keep cleaning and tweaking. Quote
jamesjones0611 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 The brass book is BY FAR the hardest book they've ever attempted. What would surprise most people is that the closer is actually the hardest musically...you just can't hear half of the double tonguing because it is so dirty right now The drill is very difficult, and very well written as well, especially in the Sensemaya portion of the show. I do think they need to rewrite the closer drill though...just sayin'. (Which will probably happen anyways, as it does in most corps) Quote
brown55061 Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 Hey its nice and warm under my rock, dont knock if you ain't tried it! I disagree a bit about the Criminal show though. I think there was plenty of difficulty aside from the guard. About a week before finals the coats beat BD and Cavies in a show so I don't think everyone else magically improved in a handful of practices. Judging is just crazy and subjective at times. I think the fans would love to see someone new win other than BD or Cavies. Crown COULD do it potentially but this is new territory for them which makes it even harder on the kids. It will be seriously tough to top the other corps in the top 7 with their programs me thinks. I like Crowns show alright but I dont see a "championship" caliber rep. Then again look at all the other programs that weren't incredible that have won. I know nothing... Quote
soccerguy315 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 1. 83 is too high. Not saying the spreads are incorrect, but there is no way (mathematically) that they can continue on this pace. 2. by "it's still July" you mean "it is July 2nd", then yes, you are correct. Quote
