Living here in Denver, I'm excited to see Troopers and Boston in Cheyenne and then the first head-heads of Troopers vs. Blue Knights & Boston vs. Blue Devils the following day in Ft. Collins. I volunteer for Blue Knights each year working the corps entrance tunnel. I love interacting with staff and seeing the rookie kids faces each year.
Troopers are moving up. They had the highest audition attendance ever and their show concepts are a new and fresh spin on a western theme. I’ve always been a fan of America’s corps but now I’m a super duper amped psyched hyped fan. Or something like that.
This whole woodwind discussion is a dog which ain't gonna hunt....because at present (including last month's Januals), NOBODY IS EVEN SUGGESTING WOODWINDS, other than that high school band kid who has been bringing it up as a way of "Saving" drum corps.
The woodwind proposals in the past originated with that man who is now a convicted felon and no longer in the activity.
There is literally nothing to see here.
Truthfully, I'm still buzzing over the Colts and Troopers making finals last season. They were long overdue for a finals appearance and I hope they stay in the top 12.
So now, 3 minutes of dancing to synth track before we pick up our instruments followed by 5 minutes of brass playing minus 2 minutes of battery features?
Last time DCI suggested woodwinds, a global pandemic happened that shut down Drum Corps for one season, and Drum Corps Competition for two seasons. Hopefully they learned their lesson.
