  1. The obvious answer then is full contact drum corps! Things like sacking the soloist, smashing through company fronts, dismantle the podium with the DM on it, real rifles and sabres.......the possibilities are endless!
  2. The majority of people in Madison have never heard of the Scouts. And it will continue to drop, especially since they might as well say they're from Bloomington now. But even before that.....oh yeah, they're some marching band. And people outside of this area think Madison is a hotbed of drum corps....it isn't.
  3. Way back when Des Plaines Vanguard was an SAL corps, they won 102 straight SAL contests. To those who have no clue what SAL is, it stands for Sons of the American Legion. In essence, to be in one of their corps, your dad had to be a member of the Legion post that sponsored the corps. And for those of you wondering when the Cavaliers were undefeated in the 1960s..it was 1961. It actually extended from after nationals in 1960 into 1962. Yes, there were less contests back then, pretty much weekends only extending from May to September, depending when nationals was. St. Vincent's from 1950-1953 won four straight VFW championships and lost just two shows during that time.
  4. What else would a corps from Salem, MA be called? Hawthorne??
  5. And a good thing they did....it would have sounded silly for a national champion corps called the Sunnyvale Sparks.
  6. That was the name of the Legion post. Custer was originally from southern Michigan.
  7. I saw a one-valve sop in an antique store in Madison once. And I have the last existing r/v Getzen bari from the original set used by the CapitolAires. I think Kenny Norman has the rest of all old horns in the state.

  9. Fran...only because he FINALLY announced to the crowd---"we hope you enjoyed the performance by the Stealthmen" while we were coming on the field at 03 prelims.
  10. We had one move in 2000...I started on about the 48 or 49....backwards to the 25 and then back to my original spot. It still doesn't make sense.
  11. 1973 Waterloo, Iowa They canceled the parade due to lack of interest from the local populace, so each corps did a standstill in a shopping mall parking lot in front of maybe 10 or 20 people at a time. The show that night was pretty sparsely attended too. And if that weren't bad enough, our housing was a meat packer union hall right next to a slaughter house. Between the smell and the screaming cows, it wasn't a good night.
  12. You do realize that DCI didn't exist during your first three choices right? Therefore, the poll is immediately flawed. For those of us who existed before DCI, we didn't join it, it intruded on us.
  13. The NCAA should have infinite eligibility for sports instead of the four year/five year if you redshirt thing. I want to play linebacker for Joe Paterno before he dies
  14. Mine certainly got a workout too! There were two comments during prelims that made all the refreshing worth it--- 1. One person's comment about the Renegades being much better than their seed score. (Obviously didn't realize that score was from mid-July so of course they would be better!) 2. One person asking where the Brig's were
  15. during DCP's prelim play by play on Saturday, someone made the remark that the Renegades were a lot better than their "seed" score. I guess the person didn't know that that score was from mid-July! And then there was another person that asked where Brig's were. And was serious!
