  1. Many judges have limited time to view the pre-show portion anyway due to finishing up aural and written comments on sheets, putting scores down, marking their tote sheets and prepping for the next corps. Their available time is minimal. SOme are literally finishing up one group and then just getting ready for the next one to start judging. I would think that it was part of the reasoning for George's proposal to add 1 extra minute between corps as well as giving the corps more time to set-up their equipment. Every judge is different and some captions have more or less to comment on or do depending on what part of the season they are in as well.
  2. COngrats to all involved. I look forward to seeing you this summer! (Go Chels!!)
  3. They teach the hair on the back of your neck how to stand-up at attention!! (besides the other educational stuff...)
  4. Hey - if you are a band director out there...send it to all of your band parents & students and have them all vote too...
  5. Joe, Best of luck and good health to one of the classiest guys in Drum Corps. You were always a gentleman to work with and a pleasure to talk to. You deserve the best. Most folks will never know how much you did for this activity behind the scenes, never asking for notoriety or recognition. You will be missed! Don't be a stranger at our events in the summer! Thanks for everything!
  6. Very cool!! And let the debate begin!!! (But some videos are of the wrong groups...)
  7. Best of luck to Pioneer this year. Keep up the good work!! It's nice to see progress with a strong sense of tradition - good for you guys!!
  8. If you like Metheny, (which I do...) then check out some of Nando Lauria music as well. Especially "Episode Prelude", "Episode", "If I fell" and "Back Home". Cool stuff too!!! (credit to Chack Naffier for this...btw) Good luck Crossmen in 2010!! And congrats to the 2009 Age-outs!!
  9. My last performance was our championship run-thru in Miami. I was grinning so much it hurt by the end!!! A nice way to end a marching career...
  10. Nice job Jim. Good to see ya at the show. Looks like next year the sideline will be able to be moved closer to the stands. The new track surface prevented that this year! And being old-school is more than OK!!! See ya down the road somewhere!!
  11. I bet Chuck Norris could do it with his bare hands...
  12. Careful Tom...you wouldn't want to start a trend on DCP....
  13. The make-up of the board was changed drastically 2 years ago. It is not the top 12 or the world class corps directors any more. It is a much smaller group of directors with at-large members as well. They are trying to go to a more business-like set-up to help make decisions based on total experiences and not just drum corps competitive placement. Any change, with running DCI and new venues will take time to develop. Good concerns, but not voiced in a way of helpful complaint. When complaints are mixed with venom, any human gets their back up. Wouldn't you?? If the same concerns were voiced in an adult and mature way, imagine how much more serious they would be taken. That is how any organization works best with customer service. Knowing the DCI team, they will respond regardless of the delivery. I think that they have show and very good track-record of making issues better when given a chance. To write that off now is like blaming them, or specifically Dan, for every poor business decision that corps and DCI has made for over 35 years. God-forbid it was corps directors, who were beloved by all, making crappy decisions just to be one place higher or to make finals. It's happening even today, but I guess that is DCI/Dan's fault too... It's sad, that a forum as good as this, turns into a venue for personal attacks and calls for peoples heads. I agree that it's how things go the second year that will be the telling sign of a quality venue and organization. I hope to see improvements as well. We all do regardless of the venue or show (and corps too!!).
  14. He might need it in bigger font and in bold face to understand. hard to believe, eh??? How about volunteering, like a ton of us do all summer, to come help and fix issues instead of complaining. Oh, but wait, that would take leaving the house and the ankle monitoring system would have to be disabled for that...
  15. FYI... the bottle caps were kept by the stadium employees to help pay for one of the employees kids to receive cancer chemotherapy treatments. I asked to keep mine (to mix in some Crystal Light mix) and they had no problem with that. On another note, I am amazed that that is even anyone's major complaint with so many more important ones floating around... My take - nice city, nice people, great drumcorps!! Good to be home, but already missing the corps... Until next year...
  16. It's been great to watch them all season. A corps that entertains and just throws down on the field. Great job and thanks for making this summer so great!
  17. INT has never offended anyone. They have done nothing to anyone. They have never offended with their show, used over-age members or gone electronic. They stick to their traditions and beliefs. Their cost per member, while it varies from stadium to stadium, is usually reasonable and full-filling. At longer shows, people are begging for INT. At shorter shows, they arrive way too soon, but helps every corps make some money. Why be a hater???
  18. I agree on the salute issue. That is a nice tradition that costs a drum nothing to continue!!
  19. The US flag code states that anyone in uniform is not to remove their hats at the playing of the national anthem or the presenting of the colors. To remove a uniforms hat would be disrespectful. You would never see anyone in military uniform remove their hats during the playing of the anthem.
  20. The field is really saturated on the edges and the pit equipment would have been a disaster. The crowd really stayed and seems to be enjoying the show!
  21. It will be great to see them tonight!!! It should be a beautiful night for some drum corps!!!
