  1. Totally agree. Great hornline/ drumline. Narration not needed. Get rid of it.
  2. I have the premium membership because of my season pass. Since I still have about a month left on season pass, they put me as a premium member. I was hoping tonight would give me an indication if I wanted to continue. If this doesn't work, I probably won't. :(
  3. Totally agree with you about how people like to tear the top people down. Cavies went through this in the early 60s, Blue Devils in the 70s & 80 (SCV, too.), Garfield Cadets in the 80s, Cadets in the 90s, and now Cavies again. It happens even in sports. This music is going to entertaining and I believe very competitive. I just wish I was young enough to march this show. My hats off to the music design & program staff of the Cavaliers. I know the visual staff will do just as good a job. Good luck this summer Gentlemen.
  4. 2002 Cavaliers.........what a hornline, what a visual program, what a corps! Go Go Green Machine!
  5. I'm not sure if I will signup. I've used it the past 2 years, but I'm not happy with the setup. I was hoping that there would be a way of clicking on visual performances, just like we do the audio streaming. And, I was hoping that these would go back as far as possible. The price seems like it might be getting too steep.
  6. There have been several soloists that really made an impact on me. They have included: Barbara Maroney(Garfield 1983,84) on mellophone, the soprano soloists from the following corps and years: bridgemen (1977, 78), Guardsmen (1979), Madison (1975), North Star (1979, 80), Pete Bond (Phantom 1977), and Blue Devils (1980) on La Suerta. Also, the Colts used to have a really good baritone soloists in the late 70s/early 80s and Madison had the same great bari soloist in 1978, 79. I wish I knew names, but I don't.
  7. What was the real reason the corps folded? I've heard that the corps director at the time didn't manage the money correctly. I wish the corps had stayed in Hutchinson, if it meant they would still be around. It just doesn't make sense that with all of the kids from Texas, they had to fold. I hope that the same fate doesn't happen to xmen. I always enjoyed Sky. I wish they would start up again in Kansas and make a comeback.
  8. My favorite Drum Corps moment is performing in my own hometown of Canton, Illinois. I remember performing with the 1979 Cavaliers in my hometown, seeing my friends coming to watch us practice and do the show. What a great thrill it was! It wasn't my best performance. In fact, I think it was one of my worst. But, it was still a great time.
  9. Those three guard girls were dancing up a storm on "Big Noise from Winetka" (1980).
  10. Great ideas about interviewing current Directors. How about also interviewing current and past instructors. I'm sure I know what Dennis De Lucia would say. :)
  11. What if Season pass would also offer streaming videos of show from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and today. This, in addition to the audio might make a lot of fans happy. That would solve some of the complaints about the classic countdown. Just a suggestion.
  12. Yep, I have to agree. A little too theatrical for me. I thought Dennis De Lucia would have done a better job.
  13. Here is an idea for the next classic countdown. Have the fans select their favorite: colorguard, drumline, hornline, GE, crowd appealing, best musical book, best drill, and most innovative shows from any era. My choice would be: Best colorguard- 27th Lancers (1980)- perfection Best drumline- Blue Devils (1986)- clean as a whistle Best hornline- Cavaliers (2002)- intonation, balance, and musically outstanding Best GE- Star of Indiana (1991)- with the George Zingali drill that was mindboggling/ mello runs that so demanding. Best Crown pleasing show- Madison Scouts (1988)- what can I say about "Malaguena"? or 1977 Bridgemen- good old fun show. Best music book- Phantom Regiment (1989)- New World Symphony was fantastic. Best Drill- Garfield Cadets (1984)- This drill fit the music to a "T". Everything was so well coordinated. Most Innovative- Santa Clara Vanguard (1980)- the drill that started it all for the future. At the time, judges didn't understand it, which probably helped them get a 7th place finish. Pete Emmons started the asymetrical stuff with this show. What do you think?
  14. My 13 year son attended with me last night. I asked him at the end of the evening, who is favorite corps was? His answer: the Bridgemen. My wife asked him the same question, same response. He has been to a drum corps show since he was 7 years old. To my son, even if this show is 27 years old, he enjoyed this one the most. FYI, his second favorite corps show was Cavaliers (2006). BTW, I wish 27th Lancers (1980) would make the list as well.
  15. I sure wish Blue Devils would announce their show. I have a good feeling that they are going to put together a winner this year. If they can just improve their visual program, I think they might be do another DCI Title.
  16. I always thought that "Don't Stop Me Now" would make a great tune for drum corps.
  17. Geneseo Knights did a complete Chicago show I believe in 1988. Small hornline/corps, but they did a nice job with it.
  18. The Geneseo Knights played some stuff by both Boston/ Kansas in their 1986 show. They finished 21st (?). In division II or III, Guardsmen did xyz by Rush. I don't know of any Division I corps doing Rush or Spinal Tap.
  19. When I was a brass instructor, the following judges were always helpful: Jim Unrath Sandra Opie Dr. Baggs Even though Dallas Niermeyer wasn't judging much during the seasons I instructed, he was working with the Cavaliers (when I marched) and he was an excellent instructor.
  20. I don't understand your logic in this comment. First of all, Blue Devils have won more DCI Championships than anybody else. Yet, you don't want Cavaliers to win another. Cavaliers still have a ways to go to catch up with BD. I am very happy that the Cavaliers won again. I would have been happy for anybody from the midwest to win. I remember back in the 70s, when the west always won the championships (except 75). I remember Phantom being the brides maid 3 times in the 70s. I remember the 80s & 90s when the Cadets (Garfield Cadets, Cadets of Bergan County, etc.) kept winning year after year. So, I think it is great to see a midwest corps winning. Again, let me state I would be happy if Phantom, Madison, Blue Coats, etc. woud be that corps. It is great to see the midwest have their turn. I'm sure BD, SCV, and others will be collecting more championship trophies soon.
  21. Everybody! Too much winter weather. <**> I can't wait for the summer weather and drum corps. :)
  22. I actually liked the uniform they wore from 2003-05. I liked that uniform better than this past year. I didn't like the drum major uniform because it was too similiar to the rest of the corps. I'm probably one of few that liked that uniform. I also, for some reason, liked the uniform worn during the late 70s.
  23. I would like to add that the Cavies became the dynasty they are when they moved to Rosemont. The support of the mayor and city has helped them to have the financial support necessary to be successful. Also, Superman Jeff Fiedler has done an outstanding job as corps director. Mr. Fiedler has been able to put together the right team. Their overal design team, administration, and captions are very talented and dedicated to the corps. Finally, the members are top notch gentlemen, who work hard and are keeping the traditions of the Green Machine alive and well.
