  1. After seeing the Scouts in Houston, I still think the show is about Mexican Wrestling.
  2. Sounds like Northern Lights part 2 with the staff and location.
  3. Just got home after the show and here's my blurb..... HNC- Tonight, they were by far on point. That horn line can BLOW! Thank you for ripping my face off! Colorguard was the cleanest of the night. Crown - I still love the show....still some holes and a few kids still getting over the 'bug', one being a former student of mine in the guard. Bluestars- My fave surprise of the night! Ticky guard but nothing a day of good cleaning can't fix. Love the overall package and the corps visuals were fantastic! Keep building and defining the show and they might climb the charts even more. Regiment- I spent my day at rehearsal watching the guard, as I'm a guard director in the area..... I watched them change the ending of the opener for what was the 47th time. After watching the show tonight, it seemed to be a gigantic waste of time. That was the only phrase that was remotely clean, but still ticky. IMO cleaning is what needs to happen. I'm begging the guard staff to stop the changes and just clean and define. Those kids are beyond talented and deserve better. The drill just doesn't do the music justice. As always the corps proper was fantastic. Great drums, Great horns. They still lack and are missing huge visual movement opps, but IF the visual guys actually work, they might have a chance to finish top 6....but that's a big IF at this point. I love my Phantom Regiment and am disappointed that this season was a total miss as opposed to using last season as a growing opp. That's all I can rant about now...curious as to how other show goers felt about the way the show is being run now. I know I would appreciate someone directing the traffic in the parking lot instead of in the stadium. Talk about your Cluster*$^@s!
  4. Yes the WGI insurance is a steal, I mean a deal. Shopped around and still the cheapest.
  5. Main issues are with the drill writer and guard design. One would think after a year of 3 major rewrites to get the championship last year, the kid would have figured it out. Learn what works and what doesn't. Also, Regiment's colorguard has a long history of class and sophistication in design of uniforms, work and overall effect that just isn't happening this year. NOT THE MEMBERS FAULT. I was not at all impressed with Bluecoats' guard last year. It seemed like a cheap knockoff. I understand that this guard staff has been on PR staff before, however it feels and looks like the cheap knock off. "We don't have Adam Sage, but we'll give ya the guy that worked with him two years ago." I mean, the years that Joe and Jude were captions ('02-'04) are head and shoulders what we are seeing now. I'm sure I'll be flamed, but dang it I love my Regiment. Loud, Sophisticated, 100% Class.
  6. As a former staff member, I dig the new uniforms and name. The purple is a tip of the hat to the past and the grey is a view into the future and is going to look super sharp on the field. I applaud Green's efforts in keeping a history night so that the new members will know where the roots of the corps come from. However, change still hurts some times. It's called growing pains for a reason. Former staff, members and volunteers saw that Mempho was going to be dead in the water if something didn't change quick. The DFW area will embrace the corps in a way that the greater Memphis area never did or could. From here on out it will be a metamorphosis of what was, and I look forward to sending my students to march Forte in the future.
  7. Pride of Cinn 2008...."Bridge over troubled water" Totally forgot about that. Very smart and beautiful.
  8. DCI Houston Shows are July 16th and 17th with a HUGE line up both nights. I'm very gratefull! Cirque du Soleil is at the Berry Center July 15th-19th I get that it's two diffrent venues but it's on the SAME SITE. Where are the corps going to warm up? Parking is going to be a nightmare....and the traffic! As if it's not already a clusterf*&^! If this isn't a push to move the site to the new Conroe ISD stadium, I don't know what is. It was bad enough I couldn't take my digital photo camera in to the venue last year because of a groping gate jockey. If the Berry Center isn't going to cater better to this activity, perhaps it's time to look elsewhere.
  9. I believe it's Lassiter 98 you should check out.
  10. Universities with programs competitive in WGI (pulled from wgi.org): Arizona State Boston University College Mont-Saint-Louis de Montreal Florida International University Heritage of McKendree University Midwestern State University James Madison University Missouri State University UConn Utah Valley University University of Texas University of Alabama University of South Florida Michigan State There may be more that compete in local circuits but not nationaly in Winter Guard International. Best thing to do is see if the school has a marching band. Most marching bands offer a scholarship per semester i.e. LSU, Arkansas and Georgia. Edit: I'll add schools that directly have winterguards.
  11. Do you think it was the sabre that threw them off or the routine itself? What did you think of the audition process? If you had it to do all over again, what would you do diffrent? Do you plan on auditioning again for the Fall season?
  12. I want to know the name of the song that the quirky girl from Seattle did....lyrics something like "if i had my way you'd still be stuck on me"? a bit twisted song that must get added to my ipod.
  13. Bout time someone started this thread... did anyone catch the small snipet of the guy holding a sabre in cradle and doing the Braddock 'sit' from this seasons show at the Miami Auditions? Curious as to if any DCP folks can identify the young man and want to know if he made it to Vegas.
  14. With high school kids I tend not to do anything that would potentially get "momma" mad. If you really need color in the hair, I would use those color extention clip ins. Used creatively, you could tease some pieces out and place them in teased pony tails and such. I just wouldn't want to be the guy to have to explain why little blonde Ashley is now little GREEN Ashley.
  15. Word. Those spandex body costumes were not flattering. Perhaps the Cavies should take a page from the SSJ design line. Feather boa included ;)
  16. wooden pole. it happens. Building into Interplay's closing flag phrase it just split....not sure if two poles knocked or not. The girl that got the 'short end of the stick' still tried to atleast get her down-ups together with the guard. Love her. She handled it as best as anyone could.
  17. rumormill at headquarters was saying that top 30 SA would be promoted....but cherry vodka sour induced directors will say anything
  18. <-------gay for the Braddock dance soloist. Other faves..... - SCV flag ensemble at the end! - NEI flag ensemble......you were robbed. Just saying. - Ars Nova Open's Rifle feature! - Warren Central's show....so many intellectual layers! - The blue and red ensemble worn by THE Sebastiene St Jacques
  19. It has to be said.... outstanding dancing soloist standard bar was raised by Braddock Ind World. I can't get that chick out of my head! Plus, she totally had the best ending to the show ever.
  20. A frustration over the lack of judging consistancy, and utter confusion over the A class in general, I ask myself and you all this question.... Is it better to have a show that people will remember, or one that will win? I watched most of my circuit's finals this year and asked my kids what they thought. Thier fave show was Mc Neil's "RAD!" show...a program that gave a great tribute to 80's workout videos. This show, while extremely clever and a fantastic step aerobic block ending flag feature, was not in metal contention. I guess i'm just over the "vanilla" show concept to even be top 5 in A class at circuit. Am I totally alone?
  21. THANK YOU! That's kind of my issue. I decided to step out of the cookiecutting box and have been getting slapped on the hand all season. My kids however have been sort of rock stars when they get back in the stands. The great debate is a. be fan fave or b. place top 3. I can't bring myself to do same ol'-same ol'. To have to listen to that day in day out for 5 months....no thanks.
  22. A few years ago, I was totally anti compulsories. However, after the realization that the A class is litterally a blood bath, and without something objective to offset the subjective, the class is only going to get worse. Perhaps an exploratory committee is needed?
  23. U Louisiana guard's sountrack is "Mic Check" by Imogen Heap. UK only release 2 years ago, hard to find unless your just that into Imogen. I kick myself for not going a head and using it last year.
