  1. They're very courteous and welcome me to their show every time and tell me how much of a pleasure, a great, great pleasure it is to have me there. That's positive, right? Not a fan of this show, but do like many other Cadets shows.
  2. Though I'm sure that's part of it, I don't think it's just people voting for their favorite corps. A lot of people are voting for their favorite show this year.
  3. Nice post. I agree with most of what you said. There's evolutionary change like assymetrical drill, three valve horns, even Bb horns, and then there's what I think is fundamental changing of the activity, which is what Hopkins is set on doing. I'm not a fan of that. Thanks for taking the time to eloquently put into words what many of us are thinking.
  4. Yeah, we don't have enough championships to do this yet. PEOPLE, GET WITH THE PROGRAM!!!!! :P
  5. The cool thing was we got a bonus gift and they gave us a WHOLE ring, not a half!!! And here I was thinking the past 10 years we just came out and had a great show and earned it. Kind of takes the fun out of it to find out it was just a gift. I had no idea that our color guard wasn't judged AT ALL. Just because it's not broken out separately doesn't mean it doesn't count.
  6. Thanks for the link. I just read through it and still don't understand how it happened. BD's show isn't bad, but I don't think it beats Regiment in the criteria in that link, especially by four tenths. In the opinion of the judge it did though. Oh well. I would also have probably put Cavies over Regiment in GE Visual, though Regiment has done a lot of improving of their visual show in the past three weeks since I saw it for the first time.
  7. I watched the entire show from Atlanta tonight on season pass and I'm having trouble figuring out how Phantom Regiment is 4th in Music GE and a full half of a point behind Cavaliers. What are the judges looking for in this caption? Anybody have the official items that the judging guidelines outline? The Cavaliers are great this year so don't take this as a slam to them, but the one thing I would think that Regiment would win, they got 4th in. IMO, nobody else's musical show has the effect of Regiment's. I was just curious if anybody has some insight on what Regiment is lacking in this area.
  8. Anything's possible. :) I love their show and would LOVE to see it win in two weeks.
  9. I got teary-eyed after we got off the field after performing our show in Finals in '96. Little did I know what was coming up at retreat. :) We also did a private concert that summer for an older woman who donated money to the corps, but couldn't get to shows. So we went to her house and she came out on her porch and we played a concert for her. It was pretty cool. Only thing is her house is right across the street from a funeral home and the family of a girl who was hit by a car was there at the time. We ended up playing for that family, too. We played Ave Maria, same piece as they're playing this year, but a different arrangement. I don't think there was a dry eye in the corps when we were done with that piece. The other time that really got me was the first time I saw Regiment live in 2003. It was their end of rehearsal run-through in Leander, TX. I had just driven 7 hours and got there just in time for the run-through. When they did the Canon reprise at the end it really got to me. It wasn't just the amazing performance, but to me it was a loud declaration that Regiment was back to contending for a title after some rough years in the late '90's.
  10. Check your math. PR is only 0.8 behind Cavies in Visual.
  11. They were 2.4 points behind cavaliers just ONE week ago and now they're only behind by 1.025 with two weeks to go. Keep cleaning and they have a chance, though the cavaliers are very strong this year. How can they finish 4th in Music GE? I guess I just don't understand what they're looking for in that caption.
  12. Now I'm going to have to pull out my DVD's and check out some of these moves. I find myself listening to my CD's (actually mp3's I have made of my CD's) quite a bit, but I don't pull out the DVD's too often. I really liked the SCV folding box move from '99/2000, '93 Regiment's crab step (huge crowd reaction for a drill move), and the cross drill at the end of '91 star was great. I need to watch more videos and see what else I can find. I'm more of a music person than visual, but I should expand my drum corps horizons.
  13. I don't like the idea. It would have killed us the year I marched after the quarterfinals score we received.
  14. I hope DCI shoots for a little higher reliabillity than myspace. That site has problems daily it seems according to my fiancee', who's on it all the time.
  15. Very nice. You're definitely very talented. I really liked the Regiment uniforms. Nice job integrating the chevron into the baldric on the fancy design.
  16. Something to keep in mind is that we weren't 3.7 behind on the Saturday before finals when we went up against BD. We were only down 0.7 at that show. While we did make up a lot of ground from quarterfinals to finals, the quarterfinals score wasn't really indicative of how close we were to BD coming into finals week. IMO, cadets have a LOT more ground to make up this year than we did. There's still a lot of time left so it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
  17. Nope, these comments seem to be from people with an ax to grind with Regiment. Notice you haven't seen a single person who actually marched Regiment saying this crap, just people getting it second-hand. If you want to march Regiment, then go up there and try out. I can't say for sure that the corps will be the right fit for you, but it's not like these people are trying to portray. So for those of you complaining, did you bother to contact the corps with your concerns? You find the time to get on a public forum and relay these bad experiences to try and portray the corps in a bad light, but did you take the time to email the corps and let them know about your bad experiences? It wouldn't have taken any longer than posting on this thread.
  18. Part of the reason I renewed my season pass yesterday afternoon was because they were streaming from San Antonio last night. It wasn't considered a "bonus" night for me. I'll be fine if they post up some of the other shows that I missed last night. I didn't know they had the stream back up for Regiment's show because my browser wasn't connecting when it should have been and they couldn't find a minute to update the dci home page to say the stream was back up. I didn't get connected until Bluecoats show, but all I get is two minutes of Regiment's show to view now. Whether or not they post up some of these other shows this week will show how they feel about taking care of their subscribers. If they don't, then it's obvious they don't really care enough to take care of us, "bonus coverage" or not.
  19. Wow, I guess I must be missing all of this negativity from when I marched and now when I hang out around the corps. Maybe you ought to let PR's director know about your bad souvie experience, but it's ridiculous to generalize about the corps' attitude based on one experience with a souvie person. You really think all the corps cares about is whining about their placement just because a souvie person got defensive? Geez.
  20. I wonder why they never updated the DCI homepage with another news headline saying the stream was back up? It would have been nice for those of us waiting. It's pretty standard for a datacenter to have backup. It's actually out of the ordinary for it NOT to. That's why I'm so surprised that the one DCI is using went out for as long as it did for a simple power outage. I know you get more than just streaming from season pass, but I pretty much bought it for just this show, Atlanta, and Semis so I wasn't real happy that they had so many problems tonight.
  21. This isn't uncommon for a judge to be judging a corps they taught at or marched with. What do you expect them to do, get people that have never marched in or taught a drum corps to judge? Jeff Prosperie hasn't been on Regiment's staff in 11 or 12 years. I doubt he's putting Regiment ahead just because he used to teach there. They have a very strong drumline this year. Anyone that has been to a dome know how bad it echoes in there. Maybe he wasn't up at the front to hear the pit when they were off and couldn't tell when he was back listening to the battery. I didn't get to see regiment's show because of the feed being down, but conspiracy theories are ridiculous. Do you think judges would keep their jobs if they put inferior corps ahead of better ones just because they taught there more than 10 years ago?
  22. I am pretty disappointed that they had the problems, though they were the ones that chose this hosting provider. They do have things called diesel generators and there are plenty of datacenters that CAN handle blackouts just fine. There were datacenters in New Orleans last year that stayed up after the hurricane. If they can do that, then a datacenter should be able to handle their power being out for a few hours. I wasn't able to get my feed going again until bluecoats, so I missed the show I wanted to see the most, Phantom Regiment. They posted up the entire shows of Cadets and Vanguard, but all I got of Regiment was the last two minutes of their show. Hopefully they'll post up the entire show because there's no technical reason they can't make this right and post up the entire shows of the corps for the people that got tired of waiting after two hours of the feed being down. I was refreshing periodically, but didn't get it going until bluecoats were on the field. I guess we'll find out how much they value their subscribers if they don't do anything. As for the people saying this was bonus coverage, I just renewed my season pass this afternoon, expressly because of the advertised coverage of tonight's show. $40 for three streamed shows is a chunk of change, especially when one of those shows is messed up as bad as tonight's was. This is the kind of stuff we had to deal with a lot last year and why I wasn't sure I wanted to renew. Doesn't help when the day I renew they have a major outage. Hopefully they can get things taken care of for next week in Atlanta.
  23. That's nice, though I would appreciate getting to see Regiment's too since I didn't get my stream going again until bluecoats were on the field.
  24. Our housing site finals week wasn't the best, but it wasn't that bad. Nice high school, but the field didn't drain too well so it was pretty muddy. The poor band room was just awful when we got done with it. I think I just threw my socks straight in the trash every day after rehearsals because they were so muddy and gross. I doubt our situation was really any worse off than many other corps though. The school wouldn't let us sleep there so we ended up sleeping in a church down the road. It wasn't too bad. The pews had cushions on them. :) From what I remember we didn't have our best show on Thursday, but it wasn't that bad. We were pretty ###### as was the staff. They sat us down and told us that they didn't know why the judges weren't giving us the credit they thought we deserved, but we used that as motivation to practice harder. I think we were actually tied with Scouts if they hadn't gotten a penalty. They hadn't been close to us since June if that tells you anything. We came out on Friday and moved up, but our show might not have been as clean as Saturday, but plenty of emotion as we had something to prove after quarterfinals. That bumped us past Cavaliers who we had gone back and forth with most of the summer. I thought there was no way we were going to pull off a victory though after being 3.7 points down on Thursday. I was just hoping for third place and to win high horns as we did on Friday. We had a great show on Saturday and I remember everybody being pretty happy with it. That's all you can ask for is to have a great show on Saturday night. The crowd seemed to enjoy it too. I still remember when they were announcing scores and they had already announced the captions and we won GE and Brass. I think cadets won two and BD won two as well. The first time I thought we had a chance to pull off a win was when they announced Cadets in third. Then I started thinking that we had won two captions and BD won two captions and we had been catching them the last few weeks of the season until the quarterfinals fiasco happend. Then came the famous announcement, "and in second place................which is actually a TIE FOR FIRST PLACE, ALPHABETICALLY BLUE DEVILS AND PHANTOM REGIMENT!!!". I only know what he said because it's on my videos. The roar of the crowd drowned out everything after the word "tie". I just remember that I started shaking because I couldn't belive it. We had finally done it. It was an amazing night that I'll never forget. I could only march one year and I guess I picked a good one to do it. :) We had a great corps and a great staff that gave us an amazing show to perform. It all came together on Saturday night. I think we had a great show and the judges gave us credit for it. Since I didn't get to see any other shows performed that week I can't really explain it.
  25. What kind of ISP doesn't have power backups? What a joke. Glad I decided to plunk down my $39 this afternoon to renew my season pass.
