i love ffff, but i feel like phantom brass can back off when they're up front just a bit. especially the mellos.

crown is almost there in so many places. i feel like almost every corps at the top (and everywhere really) is going to be peaking at just the right time in indy. this is going to be fun.

i've been rahrahing this show since the first flo stream. i understand the weakness visually but everything else is magnificent.

regardless of placement, i love where the troopers went musically this year. very strong brass to these old ears and great rep choices. can't wait to see them at finals and next year!

love the whole show, but the brass is actually stunning. i didntvwatch tonight (murf), but I think their brass sound is even better than last year and that's really saying something. thank you to the corps!

one of my favorite bd shows musically was when they did a bunch of bernard herrmann stuff in 00. not a very jazzy show other than the short opener, and a bit of a departure for them. but i wore out my early season recordings of that one. so i think they can do well taking some risks outside of jazz and pop ballads. yes, i know they got 3rd that year, but the corps that tied for 1st were just spectacular that year.

they're so good. the part at the end of the shanty where they're in threes and throwing equipment with arms crossed in the air and every which way?. to me, that an involuntary murder waiting to happen. but hey, bonus GE!

ballad hasn't sounded good to me yet this year, and it's almost entirely the arrangement to me.

brass scores and spreads make the most sense to me of the season so far. i think phantom should be a little closer to blue stars, though. but i get it. they were rough tonight for sure.

i'm feeling that ending from bd a lot more than with that change. still not quite there, though. flo's sound design tonight was spot on to me. hope it's as good on sat!

That's my favorite run so far from Boston, and not because of the tarp which I don't think is fully cooked up quite yet. Music performance up a step or two since SA, I think. At least to my ears.

Beyond eager to see this show again with all the progress and tweaks I'm sure they've worked on. It's my favorite of the year, again. Why can't Saturday come sooner?

The only BD productions I've really liked in the last 10 years are 2014, 2017, and most of this year's, and I was one of the resident BD sycophants on here for more than a decade before that. My main complaint is music choices and arrangements, but I also am not drawn to their visual style of late. It's all just taste and opinions. Criticism is one thing, but there's already people being weird. Maybe they'll pull out the old stopwatch. Always a blast.

i was just talking in the big show thread about ge moments and how a bunch of corps are getting closer and closer to really hitting them. crown has several, but the one i'm really looking forward to is when the brass, front ensemble, and battery are bouncing triplet phrases off each other in the middle of the show. it just feels a bit uncertain right now, but i'm telling you, that is going to be pretty rad pretty soon.

Big GE moments coming together more and more for all of these corps. If I were counting, I think I'd find at least a few places in every show where it felt like percussion, brass, or guard weren't all quite "nailing" a big moment at the same time, but were almost there. We're in for a treat when they do.

i'm out for these final 4. looking forward to: crown: all of the quieter brass moments bloo: gonna focus on that guard watching from hi cam. they just draw me in. boston: wanna hear more of the brass gains that they seem to be making with every show. bd: the changes to the back half of the show. watch out.

i love the use of black and white on the silks in the opener. the contrary movement moments are so cool.

flo's sound design isn't meshing with the speaker placements for phantom's show. still glorious, but i wish there weren't so many overcooked amp effects and weird reverb from the lower-pitched horns that took me out of the show a few times. it's been an issue for me for several corps. makes it sound like there are timing issues that aren't actually there. again, not saying anything negative about phantom. thank you phantom!
