  1. 1. find your dream corps (the one who made you want to march) and go for it. 2. money usually works itself out through scholarships and fundraisers. 3. If you dont make your dream corps audition for another corps. not all corps have as competitive of an audition. and usually you can find a home with friends all around. and in this case there are usually alot of people in your same situation. When I went to the colts the first time I didn't know a single person at camp. by the time tour was about to start i couldn't count the amount of friends I had made. 4. If you still aren't sure where to go, talk to someone who has marched before. Even if they haven't marched every corps they can give you at least a background on their programs. 5. Practice!!!!
  2. "just one of those days where all the guard gets together and decides to wear something weird"
  3. I dont want to be negative but isn't part of the competition in DCI based on the show design IE General Effect music and visual? If the show being performed isnt designed by the corps "design team" isn't that kinda like buying a show?
  4. I always find it easier and more fun to perform to an active crowd. when a crowd is quiet or "dead" it sometimes feels like the show is lacking energy. Although we are told not to listen, crowd interaction is a major part of the effectivness of the show.
  5. Tom, Scores are not all there is to the drum corps expirience. I can understand that from a fan's perspective it may seem that way. But the fact of the matter is.. i dont even remember my corps' final scores from 05 or 06. what i do remember are things like how cold the showers were in allentown or how awesome it was the first time i got to perform in full uniform. I am almost positive that no matter which corps you are a member of you can still come home with these great memories. Personally I think it is great that pioneer has not lost there sense of history and tradition. Maybe they decided at one point that those values were more important than a championship. If corps were scored on the expiriences they gave to their members i guaruntee there would be a big tie.
  6. i dont think that it is fair to judge the difficulty of any book whether it be brass guard or percusion unless you have actually performed it. Now LL maybe you were in crowns hornline this year, and if you were then i guess we cant argue with you. but if you weren't i would say you have no right to judge its difficulty.and as for all of the people talking about the drum book being easy... what are you basing that off of? are you just saying that because you think you could play it? could you play it with 9 other guys all together? I just dont think it is fair to judge that kind of thing without being put under the same circumstances. the things that can be judged are the performance qualities. Crowns brass book whether it was the hardest thing or the easiest was performed at a top notch level and that is why they were slotted 6th overall in brass. now lets take the easy way out like mony others have and just blame the whole thing on the percussion. man those guys just aren't talented!! now obviously that last statment was very sarcastic. but after reading several pages of this thread that is the vibe i have felt. I think it is best to just say that all of the corps in madison performed to their best potential. instead of using scores to point fingers to try and figure out "What Hppened" as this thread has been titled. just let the scores and placements be. In the end as a performer i know that the scores arent as important as the overall expirience.
  7. i have no connection to carolina crown so my words should not reflect upon the organization. however i do know that he was very supportive of crown and had been talking about auditioning until im assuming he didnt make it. and looking at most of his posts since then i have seen alot of negative comments towards them. again my words do not reflect the words or opinions of carolina crown. i am merley a fan who doesnt like to see them get bashed on. i thought that there drumline was great btw. maybe not the cleanest but definatley had alot of heart.
  8. great that you think that way. dont worry about auditioning again next year.
  9. Star of Indiana 1. 1993 2. 1991 3. 1985 4. 1987 5. 1992 6. 1988 7. 1990 8. 1986 9. 1989
  10. dear krystal, until you can say that you have played a solo in front of thousands of people and nailed it... please stop pretending you know what youre talking about. kthanxbye
  11. drum corps has one thing that BOA lacks: regulations. BOA has an infinate number of elements to make an "intellectual" show. IMO if a corps can make an equally "intellectual" concept while being barred by holds such as numbers on the field and instrumentation, doesnt that make the Drum corps world more "intellectual"?
  12. im pretty sure they wont announce their 06 program until banquet which takes place durring december camp. anyways if you are going to be there i may see you. what are you auditioning on?
  13. most people in this thread have looked over the colts as if they had'nt made any accomplishments in '05. everyone seems to be talking about crossmen and spirit (two great corps i might add) but dont put it past the colts in 06'. they are definatley finals material.
  14. whoever voted texas is insane 3 days in san antonio was enough last year and that was in early july, i cant imagine a week in august
  15. if its half as good as their show last year, we are all in for another great show
  16. they most likely get that rich crisp sound from the brass staff which included alums from star/blast and phantom regiment
  17. when you are dreading the fact that you have no internet all summer and then you come home and read stuff like this and realize that youd rather be back on tour than have internet anyday
