  1. I was there too...MAN I WANNA MARCH RENEGADES SO BADLY AFTER WATCHING THAT SHOW... Is it me, or can someone clue me in, where does the dude in the Phantom Regiment guard go in the last half of the show, I just kinda lost him on the field. regiment is smokin that show very well so far, but I do see room for enhancements. Call it "regiment" touches. SCV was a bit of a dissapointment though, the low brass, which was such a strong point last season, kinda dissapears in this edition. It's a darn shame I can't go to any other shows this year, but I will rely on this board to keep me in the know.
  2. Hey, guys and gals... I am going to start playing a horn again, switching to bari from contra, but I have not played bari (palyed in college MB) in 7 years. I am wanting to get my chops in shape for a possible audition for a senior corps. I was wondering how should I get started again...I found my Yahmaha 51 mouthpiece and have been buzzing it in the lover registers, but I want to know what else I should do, or other mouthpieces I should try. Any advice would be geartly appreciated.

  4. You are welcome, I was a Div II/III guy in my marching career and I enjoy watching the little guys.
  5. The Horns were shiny? Come on Nikk...tell us how you really feel. After listening to the apd, the hornline was not on its top game thats for sure.
  6. JUly 16th 2004 Damonte Ranch High School Reno, NV I would like to start on an off-topic note first. I want to extend my thanks to the Carson City and Douglas County Nevada Fire, Police/Sheriff, Search & Rescue Team, the Washoe County School District, and the Staff of Damonte Ranch HS for their help in getting the show moved to such a nice location in light of the wild fire that is going on in Carson City. And my undying admiration to all firefighters and rescue squads around the country that have to fight these forces of nature everyday. OK ON TO THE REVIEW. Fusion A very fine performance from such a small group, I thought they tried their best and played as best as the can. they have a few members of the hornline that look like the size of the horn was overpowering them. Nonetheless I enjouyed the music they performed. Good job and I wish the best of luck to them. Oregon Crusaders First word: BIG SOUND Second Word: 2004 Division III Champs? I just can see them being beaten in that division, infact they may beat a few division II corps at All City Stadium in Denver. There was never a dull moment in the show, If you have a chance to see Div II/III semi's or finals in denver please do, the Crusaders are very good. Other than a few players sticking out of the ensemble they play the show like a large Div II corps. The drumline was very clean and doing som complicated work for their caliber. As I said before they will be Div III champs, I guarantee it. SCVC Wow, what a sound, what a corps. I have never had the pleasure of watghing them ever. I saw shades of the "A" corps in their sound, visual program and percussion section. They had a very big sound, almost like Div I quality. The guard was very gracefull and handled the equipment well and sold the show very well. The hornline played well at times, at other times they were a bit timid and had some very bad drill problems. Spacing and timing were the most obvious. The percussion section seems to be the strength of the corps, the battery is doing some very difficult passages and I love the sound of the unamplified pit. These kids are going to be in a close race for the championship come Denver. Fever My favorite show of the night by leaps and bounds. In my opinion the best hornline on the field that night...even better than PC. The hornline was big, loud, balanced and AWESOME!!! They filled that little stadium surrouded by the Sierras with a heck of a lot of sound. Their visual program is very difficult, almost Div I difficult and they pull it of with amazing skill and cleanliness, with more than a few minor mistakes, but none the less very complex. The percussion sections were very clean and I liked what they were able to put out, just not up to the caliber of SCVC. They will also be in that 5 corps race for the title with SCVC, Blue Stars, Spartans, and ECJ. Pacific Crest I remember how impressed withthem last year in Orlando, and yes I believe they earned their spot in semi's unlike many people here. They ahve a veru good balanced and awesome sound coming out of those horns. The battery was very clean and souded very clear with no hiccups at all and the unamplified pit projected very well. The visual program is the achilles heel though. Very sloppy in some section and massive spacing, dressing, and technique problems. Ifthey are to compete for the 12th spot in finals they will need to clean the drill in the next 3 weeks. DIVISION I 1 Pacific Crest 76.350 DIVISION II 1 Vanguard Cadets 81.600 2 Fever 80.950 DIVISION III 1 Oregon Crusaders 76.050 2 Fusion 59.250 I believe that Fever is so much better than SCVC and if they clean that drill, be certain that Cali will be holding another Div II Title.
  7. I am also inserested in you tickets and I just emailed you as well email me tony_flo@sbcglobal.net
  8. I believe that what you hear when you are there live and what you hear when you are listening a professional recording can be very different. I will wait for my CD's to be the judge, but what I saw in Orlandom from my vanatge point, Phantom Regiment had the 4th, maybe even the 3rd best hornline at finals. I no longer play music as much as I did, but as a fan I know what I liked and the PR show was the only show in quite a few years that brought an emotional respose from me. I loved this show, even more that the top 3, to me it had more of what a great drum corps show should have, musically that is. On finals night this past August, the Phantom show was the best show that I have heard in a great number of years. That is my unqualified opinion on the matter. As for the post that started this thread, you have your opinions thats great, but please do not say that if we flame you we are stupid, that just draws out the worst in people and makes you look bad. 9. Did any one see, I think it was either Spirit or Cascades, that two hornline members lost their tuning slides or something on side 2 toward the end of the form toward the end of the show. Then a judge picked them up and tossed them to the side. Just curious.
  10. During the Ballad they use flags with George Zengali, Gayle Royer, 27th Lancers and The Bridgemen. I think they use those flags so effectively. They bring out alot of emotion. Great review by the way. The Phantom Regiment show in San Antonio did the same exactthing for me.
  11. Every one, please support this auction. I donated this set of tickets to help bring back the II/III scores and stats pages. Any of you that want a set of great tickets, please bid.

  14. Let me hit y'all with this one, I was the drumline section leader (center snare) for my high school and was taught how to play contra in one camp. B)
  15. I dont know about everyone else, but BAC had the most beautiful moment of all of the finalist corps with their ballad. Whithe them singing along with the pictures on the field. that was just awesome. Good review John, i guess taking you notebook helped. HE HE HE.
  16. Far Out Review Dude, It reminded me why I love drum corps. You made so that I was almost there. I hope that you will have the chance to experience what you saw. first hand.
  17. 94 BD, what a great solo in the ballad.
  18. Frolicking fingers. It helped me with my finger dexterity, intonation, articulation, and acuracy of scales playing.
  19. My most influential instructor that I had ia a tie between Steve Vento and Scott Jacobus. Stev made me a much better player, he converted me from an acceptable player to a pertty good player with his warmups and basic instruction. Scott made me a better marcher and a better person with his words and freindship. I will always remember those two personalities.

  21. After reading the post about the Souts Memorial Day Camp, I cannot wait to see the Scouts in the bay area in july. The way you wrote, they could be a contender for top 5 and an extreme dark horse to take the title. We'll see when the come in july. :P
