  1. Oooo...I was lucky to have found and won a K-20 AND a K-30 (separately). Both need to go to Kanstul for reworking, but just to get them...*sigh*
  2. Denver and the Mile High Orchestra performed on the show The Next Great American Band. They made the cut for "top 12" (haha) and are now in the official competition. The lead trumpet player is a former and current participant in drum corps and it would be great if we could boost his band's success by watching and participating 'interactively'. Good luck to Denver and the Mile High Orchestra! Tear em up, Tornado!!
  3. You mean a junior corps...there is my beloved Marine Drum & Bugle Corps...
  4. I have observed that some people involve themselves in organizations that only have their act together. Based on this observation,as a complete outsider, I would say that Santa Clara is doing okay. Okay enough to not be at the bottom 3, but the top 6, off the field.
  5. I saw the ad before I came here...nice lookin horn! Unfortunately, I bought mine last year. If I could just buy my new chops instead of this stupid emboucher change...
  6. I don't know if you call it a 'merge' per se, but in 1994, Suncoast took in several Black Gold (they were not going to tour - never followed up on their status) kids from Oklahoma. That propelled us into DIV II and we placed 5th. I'd call that successful.
  7. Don't feel weird...I still have my plume and gloves from All-Stars in 92 and gloves/socks from my last show. And naturally, Citation Cord from every special event!
  8. I got to see 'BEEF' and Phantom win and for free. It was my age-out year and I was in the Marines...
  9. Yeah, but do they have great Mexican food there?
  10. Entertainment. Like going to the movies, I don't go for the plot. If I enjoy myself, great movie...if not, what's next? Besides, what is a plot?
  11. Yes, it is pronounced 'Eebor'...at least it was the 26 years I lived in Tampa. I haven't researched heavily into Gasparilla, but I say good luck! As my understanding of it, Gasparilla is the celebration of Jose Gaspar's invasion of Tampa. I don't have the dates or if it's even non-fictional - sorry, I was not a huge fan of the event as a kid or adult, but did march in the parade many times. Channelside is pretty fun if you visit. Again, good luck to the corps as the Tampa Bay area could use one again.
  12. I'm still wow'ed. Since Surf and Spartans were in such a tight race this year, has anyone heard about Spartans' thoughts on DIV I? Talk about making it more interesting... ^OO^
  13. Holy crap! Are you serious? I've had the privilege of seeing them in the past couple of years and, IMH, they are incredible. If this is true, they'll be another Academy, for sure - so good for them! How much more interesting can the bottom of the top get...?
  14. I was quite a flamed troll over a topic (http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=101095&hl=) that was a result of this particular topic - partial/limited tour. ***Hopefully, this topic will not be taken out of context as mine was. I am in favor of the partial/limited tour... for the reasons expressed in the opening statement and I'm sure for other reasons I can think of while I'm not at work. In particular, to provide the best possible experience for the members. How many of us had the privilege to be in a corps that also put you on a diet? ^OO^ So, yeah, I'm in favor for it...BUT, what about the implications oif a partial/limited tour? This is where my discussion kicks in. Yes, I was a loose cannon in the start of my thread, but the ultimate subject was the disclosed statement/rule by DCI.org that the appearance order in the San Antonio regional is based upon placement in Atlanta regional. No acceptions were disclosed, and that raised a flag about a few corps that were not going on first based on this disclosure/rule. My only request to DCI is, stick to your rule or disclose an exception(s) that everyone has agreed upon. After attending the show in San Antone, I must say that it would have been silly to see Academy go on first - for ablility, alone. Moving forward, does anyone know yet if any corps will be doing a partial/limited tour next season? Anyone moving into DIV I from II? 10-12 was quite exciting this year and looking forward to next!!
  15. I believe Academy in the JRs has a full set of Kanstuls. I know SOMEONE does, the rep from Kanstul said so last year.
  16. ...or trying to explain to an attractive stranger in a honky tonk why you went to San Antone for DCI Southwest only to find out her son marched Troop - and she was there! Wow...then you become jealous because she's going to finals...
  17. I spoke with a guy named Bill Carmichael who is a professional trumpet player. I had showed him my CG3 (Claude Gordon design), which was purchaced from Claude Gordon's site but is also available through Kanstul, and he said that it had quite a bite, or had quite an edge from the inside of the rim to the top of the cup. It actually reminded him of a fh piece in general. So, perhaps the bite is also a key factor...doesn't every fh peice have wicked bite, anyway?
  18. I had the opportunity to meet Tornado in San Antonio this year and spend some time with him. Aside from being a hero of mine and reguardless if he was king screamer this year (and I DO know he was E'ing around in 93) he's a screamer of a guy. It was a privilage to meet him but too bad I didn't get a chance to hear him play in person. Not that all of you other cats aren't good people either, but you'd never forget Tornado.
