  1. All, For anyone that was in the All-Stars of 1992 in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, enjoy here! Does anyone have a vid of 1992?
  2. Hopkins isn't on the DCI board of directors anymore. Nothing to see here, pal...move along.
  3. Some stuff from my friend working his line...
  4. Wow...you don't like the 93 Devs but you like 83 Madison? That's interesting. Here's another statistical fact for you: We mentioned 93 Devs hornline being tied for first. Are you aware that Madison was 8th in horns in 83, which is lower than their overall placement? Not only that, but Madison stood still while playing Strawberry Soup in 83. I could only imagine what the Devs would sound like playing Strawberry Soup standing still. Oh wait! I don't have to imagine! All I have to do is look on YouTube for victory performances with the Devs standing still! Anyway, let's look at this again: Blue Devils 1993 Brass - 1st (tied) Madison Scouts 1983 Brass - 8th Yeah, I'm definitely gonna trust the professional judges. They've been trained and know what they're doing. To keep it real, this is in NO way a slam on the 83 Scouts. That is one of my favorite shows!
  5. You hated the execution, huh? That's funny, the paid professionals of whom judged that show had them tied for first place with Star! I think I would trust them over you. After all, they are professionals.
  6. Freelancer (88-92) and Blue Devils (93/95) soloist Scott Steward is still actively playing. However, he is being goofy as an actor in this 10 minute short (no pun, Scott!) film, with his bully daughter. Paper Pilot
  7. I bet someone will force the bus manufacturers to start making 60-passenger buses.
  8. I saw how small Phantom looked and was disappointed. Then after talking to a friend of mine, I discovered that they had the standard Open Class (g-bugle times) size hornline. After reminiscing the 80's and 90's, their size was fine with me. None-the-less, I loved looking at Madison's spread on the field. It was like a hornline buffet :)
  9. No one seems to taking into account what the kids will decide to do. Will they remain loyal and stick with the g seven or do otherwise? I don't think it is a guarantee that the level of quality will remain.
  10. So, remember that short soprano player for the Blue Devils who stood on the sideline most of the show in 93? He is still a wild performer (as the Dad in this commercial): His Commercial
  11. Anymore, I think a lot has to do with the show itself. After the 2nd Houston show this year, I yelled out "1930 CHAMPS!" during the encore - I saw their show as a championship-winning-written show. I have a soft spot for Crown, having Star on our Florida tour in 93 (we must call a spade a spade), but to me, Crown's show was not a championship-written show in 09 (07 and 08, yes...too bad, Evan!)...and for the criticism, I may be stuck in the music aspect of it. The Blue Devils can drop the hammer down as good as or better than anyone. A repeat? I will have to see their 2010 show.
  12. Any of the All Star Drum Corps, especially the 92 All Stars in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade... because I was in it.
  13. I bookmarked this thread a while back and thought I might add something to it and bring it back to the front. 90s Blue Devil soloist and lead trumpet player/backup vocalist of Denver & The Mile High Orchestra is pursuing a solo career and now has a MySpace music page with a demo up. You should go check it out. He does some screamin. http://myspace.com/scottstewardmusic For those of you not completely up to speed. Scott's band was third runner up on the FOX reality TV series "The Next Great American Band". It has also been rumored on a few online sites that Scott has been pursuing acting work and will be seen as a background/extra in the new Hannah Montana movie set to hit the theaters next month.
  14. Has anyone ever had a story they wanted to share...but knew it just wouldn't be good to do so?
  15. They have some pretty new stuff, huh? Innovative...interesting...and I certainly took sounds and images with me from the San Antone show. Do I think they deserve to be where they are? Yes. What is a bit comical is how they have dominated brass (as I know it) if not, music in the past, and this year, BD music is getting beat - they're winning via GE and Visual? Who'd ever think that? The Blue Coats YANKED me into their show - they got my attention the most. The Blue Devils show will have to be watched many times to catch everything, like some good movies - unfortunately, we will miss some of those things when the disks come out. I say GO BD! And you know what? Maybe the BD organization will have a 1-1 finish...World Class AND Open Class...I smell dynasty...
  16. To not get caught up in the super-analytical, my observation is that drum corps is not extremely wide-known - this is while I now live in Texas and use to live in Florida. However, you may find someone who does know about it while in an unlikely place where someone WOULD know about it. If that doesn't makes sense, this will clarify: I met a woman last year that had a boy marching tenors for Troop. I met her in a country dance hall.
  17. Reveille ...and not a word is spoken... :) Semper Fi
  18. I saw them at the Houston show and then SA. Broadway Corps - that is my description that I started using in '06. In comparison to the Coats, the Coats use the narration to back up the show. IMO, Cadets use the show to back up narration. I applaude the kids for bustin their butt - they put in as much (or more) as anyone that does or has marched, but by association, Cadets are obligated to follow this track until the rule can perhaps be revisited when key people retire?
  19. I, too, thought last year's show was a darling. I made a last minute decision (this past Monday) to get a ticket for the Houston show just to see Crown again in SA. AND I got lucky with a 1-seat purchase...top row of the bottom section, 3 seats from the 50 - nice.
  20. I know I will be showing twice. Go Scouts and Blue Stars!
  21. I would think it would take much more than a Phamtom show of today to top the highly-protested Suncoast show of 1984 (comparing the protest factor - not placement) - where the real people who faced real death of their friends and themselves were alive to witness this show - I don't know if it can get any more real than that. Quite biased and proud :)
  22. This one is difficult because all candidates are from 93 finals: Phantom's Wedge and/or when it started to rain on Madison as they were on the field. In all fairness, both. I'll throw in the ending of the solo-studded BD show...same year. * I would love to give the kudos to Star but not so many liked that show back then (thank God we were priviledged to have them on our tour early season).
