Slept on this corps, like the show

This is criminal. I am a racing fan - Formula 1 and Le Mans etc - and they always give the track temperature as well as air temperature. Track temp is always much higher, because it's unshaded asphalt. It can get up to 140 F. In 2014, went to a race in Austin in mid-September. There was a college band standing on the track. waiting to play before the race, which started at 4pm. As someone who understood both sides of the dynamic, I really wanted them to get the band off the track. I saw 4-5 kids have to be taken off from heat in 10 minutes

Here in Georgia, it barely rained but was around 100 for May and June. Lately it has been more normal - maybe low 90s, high humidity and big storms in the evening. Dew points in the mid-70s and heat indexes above 100. Is ~2 weeks of this sustainable? Especially with people recovering of COVID etc. Not that more northern lattitudes aren’t getting way up there more often as well.

This is one why I didn’t march my age out. I never got hurt, in 3 seasons, but I knew it was a matter of time. Cadets brass bus had a rule that long-term vets (3, 4+ years in the corps) could sleep on the bus floor because they were in too much pain to sleep sitting

Now I want to go back through reams of weather data to find out just how much hotter it is now vs when I marched (mid 2000s)

Not arguing against you, the opposite really, but can you elaborate on this? It’s certainly one of the weirdest shows ever and definitely not good in retrospect. Suggestion: Cadets 2006

1970s drum corps is mostly unwatchably bad

I think there is some of that, but the rest is - you have to write to the corps. Sorry to talk about myself 16 years ago but: I had Jay Bocook brass arrangements and Jeff Sacktig drill for 3 years - two at Cap Reg (14th, 15th) and one at Cadets (5th). The Cadets drill was faster, more physically demanding, more spectacular etc. The music was a lot harder and more interesting - rhythmic and tempo changes, much more exposure, some virtuoso passages etc. Was the stuff for the lower placing corps “not the designer’s A game”? No, they would never have been able to pull off the Cadets design - ####, we couldn’t quite do it either.
