  1. I marched with Leif in the Phantom Regiment and he is the real deal. Today, he is the percussion caption head with CorpsVets and has done a great job.
  2. Thanks for the comp on the '83 line. We did have a lot of power. The liner notes from the DCI albums from that year called us "booming baritones".
  3. I'll throw in a couple of old ones; Madison '78 and Devils '83.
  4. In the pic, I can't tell if it's Kevin Sibley or Kenny Quick on the monster bass. BTW, Rick is your bro? Cool!
  5. I have a few of Prelims recordings from the late '70s and early '80s.
  6. What else is there to do? Drum corps rocks!!!! ^OO^
  7. Good article. Although the focus of the article was on the New York corps, they certainly were not alone. The Midwest had the Joliet Kingsmen and I'm sure there were others.
  8. This is from WAY back, but a couple of Div II (Class A) tunes I really liked are "Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans" and the reprise from our 1981 show and "Marche Militaire" by the 1979 Stardusters.
  9. The pie in the face and big lips were from the '78 show.
  10. The parking lot we practiced on when I was in the Louisiana Southernaires is now a strip center full of small stores. The last time I was there, in 1988, the field lines we painted were still there. From the Phantom Regiment, Beyer Stadium is gone, but based on the recollections of later members, that's not a bad thing.
  11. I see I am part of a long tradition of euph players who ran their share of laps for Farrell. He had these flip-up sunglasses when I was there. If you made a mistake, all he had to do is look at you and flip those sunglasses up. That was the signal to put your horn down and take a scenic tour of the football field.
  12. I think Pat also marched with the Sundowners. When I was in the Regiment, Dan Farrell was the horn caption head. The quality of work speaks for itself.
  13. Maynard Ferguson was the MAN when I was in high school band. I got the play an arrangement of "The Fly", "Chameleon", and "Gospel John" in jazz band and arrangements of some his other tunes in marching band. RIP Maynard. You will be sorely missed.
  14. Ageout ceremony? I'm glad you have a ceremony. We didn't have a ceremony; just got an ageout memento to wear on our uniforms at retreat and afterwards, our ageouts stayed up all night and hung out together. I miss those guys.
  15. Hey Einstein, get it right! It was 4th place, not 5th place! :P Dedicating an entire show to 1812 is not a bad idea, but I'm not sure it's feasible. No A27Lancer, you can't use a cannon in the pit. We tried and the Blue Devils whined to the judges about it, calling it and the baby powder we used "illegal pyrotechnics", so we had to switch from an air cannon to a bass drum.
  16. For the 2007 season, it would be the Phantom Regiment; but if I can't choose PR, then the Cavies would be next.
  17. Congrats Regiment!! Good job on a great show!!! SUTA!!!!
  18. Although, it may end up being a logistical problem, I still prefer to let the corps take the field and do the shows again. Then again, I also remember in past years DCI Finals performances beginning in the late afternoon. The only area where I accept ties is for 12th place in Semi-Finals or some cutoff like that. Let 'em both in.
  19. Yeah, they could do a quick change to the old tartan unis of the late 1970's. That would be cool.
