  1. Fair enough. Last cycle they were winning with a more palatable design and change away from that one too quickly, imho.
  2. BD should take risks because that's what the leader is supposed to do to advance the pageantry and keep the activity alive. The sheets even talk about that, I believe. Of course whatever BD does is considered innovative. Oh yes, hair flips. Innovation. Illuminated light post. Violins. Props. Bluecoats are taking risks. Boston is taking risks. Why not BD too? Year, self-referential titles are pretentious. Tempus Blue in particular. Yay, they added BLUE to the white props last year! I FORGOT because I only saw the show once to give it a chance, then got a hot dog every other time I could have watched them, so I just heard the show. That was plenty. Glad this year's Crayola props are colorful. I'm sure that's their source of innovation. Go back and look at the past ten years and see how many props were just white. I'm not hating on the members, but I'm hating on the designers a bit.
  3. Madison Scouts won everything in '88 with a bunch of new staff, some of who have been with BD for a long time. Some of Cavies new staff are all-star staff, and they've gotten an influx of people from other finalist corps, plus this is a special year. Also, I've heard some stuff. They've got a shot at top 5 for sure.
  4. There are specific elements that are reused a LOT. The trombone glissandos.. The Japanese Anime music ( which I like the original scores)/KPOP. The devil speech The pretentious show titles. The props all being white, which this year they're crayola colored, so there's an "innovation" The format of the shows and the design ideas are pretty similar from year to year, more so than pretty much every other corps. Perhaps design ideas getting stale from the same team over a period of time? That clutched arm thingy. I dunno is that some gypsy curse? Shimmy, shimmy, shake. We got it. Nice butts! Bluecoats switch things up every year. Boston switches things up every year. Crown has been bouncing around with different ideals. Cadets as well. Cavaliers are different. SCV had a couple of similar years recently design-wise. Blue Stars switch it up every year. BK was similiar for a period of time, now they're trying new directions. Phantom tried different things. TROOPERS keep their identity but are doing different things each year.
  5. ...then Suncoast Sound gives us some "Sun Jazz" and a "Fair" company front!
  6. Cavaliers will be top 6. I'd bet money on it. Last year was the blip, not the trend. You can look at their history to see this. Also, this is our 75th Anniversary. They're bringing it!
  7. I love the Blue Devils' KIDS. That is all I wanted to say.
  8. That's WAAAAAAAY too many props, but less than last year, soooo.. One less truck!
  9. They experimented with a super large horn line and a super small guard, which the judges basically told them was no bueno.... Boston won't be making that mistake.
  10. Thanks! I have links posted here for people to go check out if they like to compare different versions of the same music! Honestly, I like every version of this music from every corps, so that's rare. Go Boston!
  11. It's always nice to see women/girls represented in drumcorps, and definitely in the drumline!
  12. Great news! Sounds like a stacked field this year. The race for top 12 is going to be insane!
  13. Russell Crowe told me that the St. Mary's Saints from Saint Olaf played it in 1888, but I think Russell was pulling my tail because I remember that the movie "On the Waterfront" came out in 1954. I was -30 then, but I remember it clearly, Greenland. I swear!
  14. Yeah, and Bluecoats. On the Waterfront is well played along with Copland and Holst.
  15. kay, a LOT of this show's music is more similar to Cadets 1986 than I originally realized. I like how Boston has treated the music. Sorry folks, I love to compare and contrast!
