  1. I always thought the SCV "copper snareline" shirt was the all-time champ. Maybe that was just among drummers.
  2. Kind of like saying "Man has always been woman" or "Plastic has always been oil." They may walk alike and talk alike, and the stupid or the uninitiated don't know the difference, but everyone on this thread and at the heart of the argument knows the difference is the difference.
  3. Spats: Yes. Neckerchiefs: No. At least make it look like they didn't just come out of the box. they look all stiff and incongruous.
  4. More like 20%. (With 5% from 78 and 79. Cough*Lezghinka*cough)
  5. We could ask Roman how the last DCM Finals went...
  6. Sorry that this has nothing to do with the proposal per se; I had to (absolutely had to, yes) jump in and say that "World Series of Drum Corps" is not the stupidest name they could have given this new proposal. That would be "Stilton Cheese, Ironing Boards and Fishtanks of Drum Corps." "World Series" comes in second. Just as stupid as "Summer Music Games" was*, and you can't blame DCI for this one! *I once did a phone interview with Ken Honsberger and one of the things I asked about was the choice of "The DCI Summer Music Games." He rhetorically asked me, in his best marketing-speak, "Can you think of five better words to describe what we do?" To which I responded, "Drum Corps International World Championships."
  7. I know someone who marched with Knights, Cavies and Garfield Cadets who is also in the Star alumni corps.
  8. I agree. The most purely emotional impact I've ever heard. The tension break into the major is absolutely awesome.
  9. It's never the fault of the kids. Anyone who would blame the members for shortcomings in a corps is missing the point. I have little or no interest in current show design and even less interest (in fact, it borders on downright hostility) in the direction that DCI seems to be taking, which, if you don't read my other posts, is directly into the gaping maw of Bands of America. While I'm not exactly an advocate of totalwarfare, there is much to disagree on. There is much common ground as well, and it seems to me the common ground is about what the kids get out of it (and what we got out of it)--camaraderie, pride in accomplishment, the opportunity to kick azz and take names, the joy of performing. Where we seem to differ is on the creative side--hating or supporting amps or woodwinds, the pit is too big, judges have legislated all shows into sounding and looking the same, no melody any more, what do you mean, every show is different, there's plenty of melody. And I think dissent is good, as long as it's not JUST name-calling. So I think we all know the best ways to reach out-on the common pursuits, the off-the-field values, which is after all where the majority of the season takes place.
  10. Your argument is valid. But the plaintiff's opinions are his own, and as he is not "hating on" the kids, as he takes pains to note, we find the term "hate," however inflamed or inflammatory to some eyes and ears, to be acceptable, especially as his argument, like it or not, is clearly presented. Please proceed.
  11. Overruled. Your peremptory challenge does not apply in this case. Proceed with discussion.
  12. That doesn't explain why my Special Lady left my groovy pad in such a hurry tonite...
  13. Just long enough to turn HopGibbs/YEA LLC into a wholly-owned subsidary of DrumGOInt, a division of Bands of America. So, five more years.
  14. The tenorbanger next to you looks like he's about 50.
  15. Garfield 84--Most overrated show ever. Their argument is not convincing. Zingali had been accepted ever since 1979. Replace with 85. (Or 83 if you wish; the show that took huis artistry and WON with it.) Madison 88--I love the whole show. Apparently the editorial opinion is that only half the show is good. How can that qualify as legendary? The circs surrounding the show (the blind draw and mystery scores) don't matter at all. Replace with 1975. Star 93--yeah, deserved. You got me there. Although I loathe what everyone else has done with all the vertical body movement. Star didn't use it as a crutch. SCV 89--Ehh. Well-coordinated, but the 1980 show is more legendary, IMO. For a lot of reasons. Phantom 08--I like. But I like 81 and 82 better. No amps there, either. And they took the storytelling much more seriously, and it's ALL Spartacus, unlike 08. The author (or editorial) seems to think these shows are legendary because audiences dug them, or the members really "felt" them. Not convincing.
  16. I'd have voted for the drunk from that same stupid number. Because drunk people are HILARIOUS. God, I hate that show. WHat a waste of incredible music.
  17. Ah, let me guess. That's your pithy way (sorry, "pithy") way of saying OMG THIS DINO IS SO CRAZY ROTFLMAO!!!!11!!1!! Or did you actually have something to say? Then say it. Because if you disagreed with the OP, then disagree. No free pass for you.
  18. Madison 81. Malaguena. Best ever, hands down, IMO. BD 1984, La Fiesta. Muchachos 75, La Fiesta. Marrone. Madison 1988. After theyknew they had already won it, the last chord and slow down............perfect.
  19. Gee, I wonder why. It wasn't broke, but they fixed it anyway.
