  1. Hahaha, having seen all three of the movies on the bus this summer, I whole heartedly approve of Jurassic Park.
  2. We ate it up when the crowd was into our show, almost too much in that we only thought we had good shows when the audience was into it. At big holds, I'm definitely scanning the crowd (especially the upper deck) to see if we got people to get on their feet. But the best performers do it regardless of response.
  3. This reminded me of '05 on the Cavaliers web site on Finals Day they reported that the Cubs (for Chicago) and the Red Sox (for Foxboro) were going to game 7 that night for the Series. Although the guy in the show ended up putting on a Sox jersey. How about Bluecoats as the Oakland Athletics, 'cause they've shown great consistency! The Cadets as the New York Yankees, because they're both doing everything they can to win and are at times controversial, and they've each had their dynasties. I want to say The Cavaliers for the most recent Yankees dynasty becaus they both defined what it takes to win, but the Cavies are still on top and The Yankees are trying to figure it out. Santa Clara Vanguard as Atlanta: so much consistency, and then a bump in the road (last year for SCV, this year for Atlanta). I hope the Braves can turn it around like SCV did!
  4. A brutal comment we got this summer was on the music ensemble tape from the box, and towards our closer, he's saying something and then "Oh my god, the baritone horn angles!" It was a full week until we stopped getting flack for that one.
  5. I have not gotten to see SCV, but as far as drill, Cavies blew me away this season.
  6. I will probably get the 2006 CD for myself for Christmas, maybe also the DVD if I have the cash, and definitely my tour DVD when it comes out.
  7. I don't think there's a whole lot of difference between playing bari and euph except the tone and maybe the mouthpiece. Not sure about SCV, but at some places they put people on euph because they think they can hold it, and at other places it's just 3rd Baritone part and they let them figure it out. Either way, I agree with the ankle weight plan, I did this throughout the offseason and before Spring Training and I fared pretty well. While others are getting dominated by the horn, you'll be the stud. Whether you play bari or euph, you'll be looking awesome if you prepare the right way. 2.5 pounds, maybe 5 if you think that's easy. BTW, SomeEuph, I love your sig XD
  8. 1989 SCV "Music of the Night" push 1996 PR Opener 2000 Cadets push 2003 PR Canon 2004 SCV Scheherazade reprise 2006 Crown ballad All of these make me really happy when I hear them
  9. I'm bet my school (Carnegie Mellon) has a lower girl-to-guy ratio than Rice. Even less if you consider attractive girls.
  10. Well, I just marched my rookie season at 19. If I could go back, I would definitely start earlier, like 16 or 17. My parents really brushed me off then because they didn't want it to get in the way of schoolwork, but it is definitely harder to get into it during college than it is in high school because of more schoolwork, harder schoolwork, and the fact that it matters way more than high school. I think, like everyone has said, it depends on the maturity factor. If you're comfortable sending your kids to summer-long camps, then you can probably send them on a summer-long tour and, as we said a lot this summer, "figure it out" for themselves.
  11. YES! The Bristol, RI announcer! He's awesome, althought I did think he had started his Fourth of July a little early when he announced for us. He is as legendary as the grass in Bristol :)
  12. 1-7 Blue Devils, Cavaliers, Cadets, Phantom Regiment, Bluecoats, Crown, Santa Clara 8-12 Blue Knights, Glassmen, Spirit, Boston, Crossmen Shall I go out on a limb? 1. BD 2. Phantom Regiment 3. Cadets 4. Bluecoats 5. Cavaliers (I am indeed going out on a limb!) 6. Crown 7. Santa Clara 8. Blue Knights 9. Glassmen 10. Spirit 11. Crossmen 12. Boston
  13. It'll probably be the same. I'd like to see the envelope pushed on musical demand and especially music selection. Something like where Star '93 was going. I predict at least two new champions and someone will win their second ring :)
  14. If you want music about war, find Penderecki's "Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima". It's so hard to listen to. We listened to this in my Survey of Western Music class last year and the professor started talking about music that young children shouldn't be allowed to listen to. It is something.
  15. The very last chord of Star 91 when they hit the second cross. The last chord of the company front at the end of Cadets 87. Pretty much any final chord by the Madison Scouts that lasts FOREVER ('95, '96, '97, '01, '04 for examples) The climax of Phantom '96 The hit in SCV '99 in Blue Shades (right before the rock out) The last chord in SCV '99 The climax of Adagio in SCV '00 The final chord of Ave Maria in Phantom '06 Do chord progressions count? The last chord progression in Phantom 03 before the kick. How do I rank these, they all kick ###.
  16. Hahaha, what if we played We are the Champions to replace Champions Fanfare? :)
  17. Didn't the Cavaliers march like, 80 brass? At least that's what they announced preseason, no?
  18. What about years without dropping in placement? I think the Bluecoats started climbing in 2000? But this is the most interesting: the corps that wins Semifinals has NEVER lost on Finals night.
  19. The first time I saw the Blue Devils this season I couldn't get the theme out of my head for the rest of tour. I think melody is still pretty prevalent.
  20. There were some people on tour that drank like two sodas a day. We don't have rules against, but in general soda's bad for you. It's a good first step in keeping the drum corps weight off :)
  21. I miss the old Bluecoats drum line hype on the field where they circle up and their staff is jumping up and down like they're in a mosh pit! They should definitely bring that back!
  22. Cowboy Bebop :) I haven't sat down and wathced the series, but the music is school and the characters seem like total BAs, kinda like BD.
  23. There was a person on tour who brought a laptop, but the only time he really used it were those rare times we stayed at a housing site more than one day, so you're honestly not going to get much time to do stuff. Plus not all schools have high-speed or wi-fi for you to use. If you are going to bring it, conceal it always when you are not using it. Our corps' policy was to bring all your valuables (wallet, cell phone) to rehearsal in your backpack and not leave it in the gym. Not sure if I could also handle lugging around a laptop.
