  1. These people don't sign my checks or kiss me goodnight. I could care less what they think about my predictions.
  2. I have love for the Troopers ( since 1975) This list will evolve into a real Top 12 by May. Right now, I know diddly. Just reports from a few corps.
  3. Top 6 (not in order) Bluecoats Blue Devils Boston Cadets Cavaliers Crown Bottom 6 (Not in Order) BlueKnights Blue Stars Colts Crossmen Mandarin Phantom
  4. Rule #2 Sucks! Don't Downsize my Drum Corps shows too! Shrinkflation hits Drum Corps. Frosted Flakes and Charmin downsized on me. Now This!? GIVE ME FEWER DRUM CORPS! and SHORTER SHOWS. SOUNDS GRRRRRREAT!
  5. Crossmen 1992- Rainforest/Puma Crossmen added a great percussion score to this awesome Metheny Esque song done by Karl Lundeberg. (Not to be confused with the Puma sneakers by Karl Lagerfeld. I was once a Sneaker Head) Blue Devils 1988- Since I fell for you. This is how you end a show! Hats off to the soloist! Vanguard 1976- Dark Orchid. Santa Clara didn't play jazz. This surprised me in 76 great soloist! Cadets 1991- Letter from home. A beautiful song and great story telling.
  6. How you feed your corps is directly related to how your corps performs. Also, -cooking for the different types of dietary needs is important. ( vegatarian, Vegan, gluten free and various food alergies) -Ordering food within a budget, -Planning and scheduling a menu, -Inventory of the food, - Incorperating leftover into snacks -Using the food before it expires. -Cooking things that taste halfway decent. -Recruiting, training, and working with volunteers, -Cleaning the food truck and cooking utensils. -Disposal of trash and oils This is just a few things a food truck manager has to deal with. Oh! Have the corps change a meal time or split a meal time between sections at the last minute. And doing this with a positive motivating attitude. In 116 degree temps! I got more if you want to hear it!
  7. I don't know how every drum corps does it but, I remember when I wrote and taught Drill. There were always brass, percussion and guard staff jockeying for field time. Sometimes those discussions were heated.
  8. Tom got fired because of Denise. (allegedly) Every summer as long as I can remember instructors and tech get complaints. The bests instructors get complaints. The nicest instructor get complaints ( Not saying Tom is the nicest instructor. He is a task master. You better have your #### together or be teachable. Tom is a great teacher. If he did something egregious he would be on the Do Not Hire list. If you are as closely tied to the Cadets as you claim to be, you should know this stuff. I have to take that last statement back. Sometimes things are kept close to the vest. There's a lot of things I didn't know about that affected the Cadets when I worked there.
  9. Director of Bands at Dorothy C. York Innovation Academy PTSA Former Director at The Cadets
  10. Cavaliers should have been a 5-pete corps. 2003 Spin Cycle was their best and most difficult show from 2000-2004 in my opinion. They should have never lost a visual caption or GE visual. 5 championships in 7 years is pretty #### good.
  11. As a black person who has worked with the Cadets for about 17 years, I can guarantee you they don't have a culture problem. There are many Black, Latino/Hispanic and Asian folks that have worked volunteered, tech'd and taught there. They had an Azzhole problem but I was never made to feel uneasy about race. And, Ron being a Black corps director means a lot. The Cadets reaching out to the HBCU community means a lot. Also, Cadets are one of the most minority friendly, gay friendly, woman friendly corps I've ever worked for other than the Cavaliers. I know there are other corps out there with the same culture.
  12. SCV or Bluecoats didn't have it as bad as Cavies. I think the count was 35 kids out with covid, 12 kids in concussion protocol at the same time. Not to mention a hand full of kids out with various other things. Cavies also had a music copyright thing at the beginning of the season that prevented them from doing the ending. Who knows what could have been.
  13. Before their covid/concussion breakout Cavaliers were in 5/6 place. two weeks of less than full practices and missed shows hurt their progress. I predict Cavaliers will be in the top half of finalist in 2023.
  14. I was around as long as Tom and knew nothing! Tom is a great guy, very passionate about his craft and strives to get the most out of his team every season. One of the absolute best percussion guys in the business.
  15. Yes, But this is different. You have a bunch of vaccinated kids that test positive for covid but feel fine. They stay in Q and practice their parts, improve along with the rest of the corps while while eating and showering separately.
  16. Some of you think Cavies have been sitting around in Covid protocol like sick little puppies. NO, They are crushing it on the practice field. I have no idea how all these new judges will score them but, your going to see a great show!
  17. Cavies had 34 people out with covid they are down to 20. And, they have a great new ending to their show!
