  1. More Tweets: @Jessi_AsKew BlueCoats were not as strong and I. Don't think the poles are necessary. But really calm it on the park and barks, fo real. @Jessi_AsKew All that's left is the Blue Stars. Not very good. They aren't very strong today. The flags look a mess and so do the guard uniforms. #dci
  2. From Twitter: ‏@Jessi_AsKew Spirit was great, a few drops and sone run ins, but good. #dci ‏@Jessi_AsKew Madison show is not that eye catching it was very ehh tonight. #dci @Jessi_AsKew BlueCoats sounded a hot mess. Just because you play PTO doesn't mean you have to be that scary. #dci

  4. Actually Pokerface IS the ballad! Way cool arrangement!
  5. I believe the patch is a tribute to Scotty "Freebird" Wheeler. He was the Senior Lead Driver for the Crossmen who passed away unexpectedly back in November.
  6. From Crown's website: "The Drum Corps International policy on member transfers states that a member of a corps cannot move to another corps after March 1st, without a written release from the director." I wonder how the contract situation fits into this? Is it saying that even if you are offered and sign a contract you can move to another corps before March 1st?
  7. I was told by a prospective new member that no Phantom Percussion Vets were at the Dec Camp.
  8. 1984 Crossmen "Dr. Bleak!" just before the start of Shoshana (drum solo)
  9. I think it might be a DCI mistake. I was on tour with Spirit a couple of weeks ago and had a look at the binder that held all of the show information (start times, housing, etc.). I noticed the official DCI forms listed them as being from Atlanta, Al. So the fine people of Centerville, OH were probably just displaying the info that DCI gave them.
  10. Just curious...what are typical numbers for a World Class corps these days. I have seen Madison with 20 Tubas, Bloo with 16 etc. What would be the typical makeup of each section within a World Class horn line?
  11. Spirit most definitely are NOT using Carbonplys. It is a Black Lacquer Finish. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4033...mp;id=738949617
  12. Steve Rondenaro & Rob McConnell adding "play by play" talking through all of the finalist shows on the 1982 PBS Telecast.
  13. My mother was suffering from alcoholism and spring of my age-out year was when things got their worst. I just needed some time to try to sort things out. Unfortunately, I made a very poor decision and chose to tell the Corps that I was missing the April camp weekend because my dad had a heart attack. Somehow it was easier to lie and say my dad was suffering some serious medical problem than tell them the embarrasing truth. Of course they found out that my story was false and I was no longer welcome. It took me 25 years to tell some of my closest drum corps friends what really happened. '83 was not a great year for the Crossmen, but it remains one of my biggest regrets that I was not there. The good news though, is that Mom has been sober for more than 20 years.
  14. A Crossmen Classic "Roll Out Your Mother" - Sung to the tune of Roll Out The Barrel
  15. Since we're talking Old School - Giselle Cadieux marched Crossmen '82. A great player! That was a heck of a snare line with Mark Thurston, Robbie Robinson, Jimmy Dwyer, etc.
  16. Amen. Saying Drum Corps would be better with woodwinds and synths is sort of like saying football would be better if they used a bat, and a round horsehide ball. I completely agree that there are lot of talented and innovative bands out there. And that's exactly where the woodwinds and the synths etc should do their thing. IN BAND. Let drum corps be drum corps and bands be bands.
  17. Anyone who marched Crossmen in '84 have any info on the Parkersburg Rumble? The story says that the Crossmen got in to a big rumble with some local hillbillys in Parkersburg, W.V. who were harrassing the corps. Mongo?? Dr. Bleak??? Anyone???
  18. Mongo and I were Rookies in '82 and I don't recall any vets being dumb enough to make him play football. I shared an apartment with him and made the mistake of poking fun at his less than stellar ability to cook. Mongo tried his best to add a new door to the place using me as the sledge hammer. So if Mongo was the blocker, I would not have wanted to be any of the vets who tried to get in his way. But hey, I still suffer some memory loss from having my head slammed into the wall so it could have happened :-) Mike Scott Crossmen Snare Line '82

  20. I was looking at some historical DCI scores recently and noticed this: From the begining of DCI in '72 through the '84 season, The Cavaliers were usually a solid 7th to 10th place corps. Finishing no higher than 7th and except for '73 & '78, making finals every year. Their average finish during this time was 9.8. Then begining in '85, they jumped into the top 5 and with the exception of '97, never fell below that. Winning 6 championships in the process. The average finish during that periond was 3.95 My questions are... What happened in '85 to catapault the Cavaliers from lower tier finalist to perennial championship contender? AND Who do you think has the potential to be the next success story like this?
