  3. In sail boat races, the last boat across the finish line is called the pickle boat and gets a special flag for it :)
  4. I figured it was sort of a rotational thing, so that all areas of the country can have the opportunity to have all Div 1 corps for a regional.
  5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme by Nerf Herder and any score from the show by Christophe Becke.
  6. So if you made the color guard for a corps, does that mean you are in the winter guard as well? Or are they two separate groups, but same organization?
  7. Even though there is only one camera angle, the DVDs are very well produced and extremely professional looking. Also included is a really cool round table discussion that discusses the ideas behind each show and what was going on in the world of drum corps in that year. Well worth the money.

  10. Hi, I have been trying to think of the name of a corps that did a particular show and any help that people can give me would be much appreciated. Here are the details as best that I can remember them: - The theme of the show was like a fairy tale. There were prop trees placed around the field, the guard was dressed in fairy costumes or wood sprites. I remember there being a princess and a prince and there might have been a dragon too. - This performance was in the late 80s or early 90s and could the corps could have been from any division. Thanks again for any help.
  11. I don't want to hear West Side Story. I don't even want to hear a phrase of West Side Story. Let it rest for a few years.
  12. You are so right. I watched that show for the first time the other day and I almost expected him to say, "who's your daddy?" I practically blushed.
  13. 1984 Port Huron, Michigan, Memorial Stadium. Very close to Finals and the top four placing corps from the mid-west championships were scheduled to compete. The rain, thunder and lightning started pretty early on and just never stopped.
  14. I would like to see the Prayer Cycle by Jonathan Elias done.
  15. Drum corps is more than the sum of its parts. That's where you find the original creativity.
  16. I always thought Magic's guard from 1992 was sexy in sort of a mysterious way.

  19. That's not lame at all. Christophe Beck wrote a lot of great music for Buffy. A decent amount of his music was released on the soundtrack to the musical they did in season 6.
  20. With all of the music from different Dracula and other vampire movies and productions out there, I think that could be a cool theme for a show. Some of the different music includes: Philip Glass' orginial music for the 1931 movie version of Dracula, played by the Kronos Quartet Dracula, the Seduction (a ballet) by Anthony di Lorenzo performed by Proteus 7 music from the 1992 movie Bram Stoker's Dracula by Wojciech Kilar Dracula movement from Silent Movie Suite for Double Bass by Paul Ramsier a ballet by Philip Feeney an opera by Ron Weidberg Interview with the Vampire by Elliot Goldenthal Plus they could throw in the theme from the 80s movie The Lost Boys for fun or some of the music written by Christophe Beck from the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Then of course there are the many, many Dracula and vampire movies that have come out, especially the Hammer Studio films from the 60s and 70s.
  21. Blue Water Brass at Memorial Stadium in Port Huron, Michigan. I was 6. Monday, June 30, 1980 1 27th Lancers 77.20 2 Madison Scouts 76.00 3 Troopers 63.45 4 Royal Crusaders 53.85 5 Ventures 45.90 6 Oakland Crusaders 45.75
  22. I agree completely...that part completely felt like it was added to appease the judges and make them feel wanted and needed. What they should have done was look at every part of the program and ask themselves, "will this help to bring in new viewers at live shows and make kids want to audition?" If the answer is yes, then leave it in, if the answer is no, then take it out.
  23. This is what I would do if I was running the show and I was trying to get more people to try out for corps and to come to events: Replace all of the clips about instruments and judges with more human interest stories like the girl from Phantom Regiment and the segment where corps member talked about loving drum corps. These clips were placed at the end of the program which was a poor decision because certainly many people had gotten bored by this time and turned the channel. As far as what role the brass, percussion and guard play, I think most people can guess which instruments play the high notes and which play the low notes. I also think most people can guess that color guards provide color. As for the judges, who is honestly going to remember all that useless information? The clips of the corps should have been preceeded by a short corps history, sort of like what was done for the Tournament of Champions last year. Then show longer clips of each corps, starting with the beginning. People that I talked to who had never seen drum corps said the clips felt disjointed and they felt like they missed something. They did not realize the clips started in the middle of the show. Get rid of the scores and trying to make it feel like a sporting event. This only works when it's live. Get rid of the announcers too, they only take up time that could be spent showing corps. Also explain why the corps go on in the order they do. I liked the show, but overall I felt like they were trying to explain too many small things and not enough about the big picture. I definitely hope they show it again next year and I think it will probably get better over time.
