I'd let my kid pick............I'd be a proud papa if BD or SCV was chosen, but I believe all the corps nowadays provide a great experience chock full of hard work and life lessons to learn.......I guess one thing I would do is encourage him/her to march open class if they don't get into the world class corps of their choice.

That was an entirely well natured yet not well thought out friendly stab at the medals given at DCA for.........well for us, winning minicorps. I SO TOTALLY did not actually intend to insult anything or anyone............but to be honest that first time I received one my first reaction to it, was......well....... I apologize to those who were offended by my so-called "joke".......however let me ask a clarifying question here: The medals for winning the FULL CORPS CHAMPIONSHIP, are they or are they not the same (in terms of quality and materials used, NOT the text imprinted on them ) as the ones given out for winning minicorps, etc? As much as I've learned about DCA over the past ten years, you'd think I've have picked up on that.........but it's kinda hard to pick up on things when you're sitting in the dark corner of a parking lot drinkin beers with the Erie Thunderbirds, I know I should really spend more time watching the other corps throw down their shows live, but I have been opting to spend what free time I've got at DCA to socialize with my fellow drum corps constituents. Once again, a thousand apologies to anyone offended.

Because SCV hall is less than 15min drive away......and BD just under an hour. If the Podunk Pirates or the Complacent Citations were the local corps, that's where I would have marched.

Was pulled out of SCV for substandard academic acheivement by parents, by the time I got the green light to march again the hornline was full and it was either march Blue Devils, or take the year off. I joined BD and never looked back. I got different yet equally special and irreplacable experiences from both, and wouldn't change ANY of it for the world.

Besides, we've all seen the medals........can you imagine how crappy and substandard a DCA supplied ring would be?? LOL!!!!

I bow to you, sir. Hey, we should all expose the "muggles" (non drum corps folk) to the activity any way we can, right? In closing: Bridgemen 78 ROCKED THE HOUSE!

Gary Matczak is like a brother to me, so I am not endorsing the enmity directed toward him........................but other than that this is one of the COOLEST FRIGGIN POSTS I HAVE EVER READ!!!!!!!! Ed, you receive an A +++++++++++++++ for creativity. Straight up.

I think the comparison between drum corps and figure skating is close, I think it's more accurate to compare drum corps to HOCKEY, as the one thing both sports have in common is the fact that it takes the mastery of two entirely different skill sets to perform in the sport (skating AND hockey, marching AND playing)

Even IF 2010 Bucs was a "rehash".................they would be FAR, FAR, FAR from being the first ones to "rehash" a junior corps show. Recycling junior corps stuff is......well, commonplace. We've all done it!

Kris Bardin is smart. (And yes, DCA totally predates DCI. You got that one right.) Also, as far as what the other guy said, comparing DCA to HS band???? We don't rehearse as much as the jr's, but we still commit an entire year to an 11 1/2 minute show. There's just no comparison.

Speaking as a Cavies fan............up to but not necessarily including 08 OR 09, I sincerely hope to be astounded and blown away by the Cavaliers this year.
