  1. Since Cavies and PR achieved the same score in GE, why wasn't a tie for the caption announced? There are no tie breakers for caption awards so both corps should have been announced as the recipient of that award. Please, someone explain what happened!
  2. The down years began when Dan Farrell "retired" as program coordinator. The person that took over that title was not nearly as good at the job as Dan is. The climb back to the top began when Dan retook that position. There were a lot of problems with the productions Regiment presented during those late 90's years. Nothing against Bill Peterson but he was simply unable to keep the program at the level that we have come to expect from PR
  3. During the majority of Jims years there were enough members from the Rockford area that we had weekly rehearsals. Since we a some what decently balanced weekly ensemble he was able to hear the music and make changes on a weekly basis. This allowed him to have what he wanted before the music was even handed out to the full horn line at the next camp. Since most corps now have membership that is so spread out around the US and even the world, the arranger generally only can hear the pieces once a month. Without this extra "play" time, midseason rewrites have becoming more and more common while in the old days of truly local corps rewrites were far less common.
  4. If you have a complaint about any person working on our souvie stand I strongly recommend that you contact the corps in some way to lodge your complaint. If we are allowing a "bad" person "represent" the corps on the souvie stand it needs to be told to the people who can either speak to that person or stop them from dealing with the public on the corps behalf. You can call the corps office, email the board president or even speak to Pat Seidling after the show. Any of these people would be more than happy to listen to your concerns and attempt to stop them from repeating in the future. All contact info can be found at regiment.org. The best people to speak with would probably be either Rick Valenzuela (Development Director) or Tim Farrell (Board of Directors President).
  5. Yes, Jeff Prosperie marched Regiment 87-88 and was Perc, Caption Head 90-92 and Perc Arranger 93-94 but he is generally harder on PR than any other corps. The Brass Perf. judge also marched PR, was on on staff and is a good friend of mine. Neither would put PR ahead of any other corps based on where they marched. They are both Finals quality judges and are VERY well respected. They both give scores based on what they hear. I said three weeks ago that PR would pass Bluecoats based on the staff each corps has. Drum corps is played at an entirely differnt level whe you get into the top 4-5. BD, Cavs, PR and Cadets staffs know what it takes to be at the top. I don't think Bluecoats staff knows yet what it takes to be a contender. I foresee, as I have said before, Bluecoats ending back in fifth once Cadets make all of their changes. If Cavaliers don't add some difficulty to their show they may end up 3rd. Even my mother said they have an easy visual package.
  6. And what corps has the most visual/m&m trophies? I know your too young to remember or to have seen the old shows but PR has won several Visual trophies. Just none recently so be careful when you make that statement. Not that long ago PR was almost unbeatable in visual. At least 3 of the years I marched we won field visual and overall visual twice in a row.
  7. Read my first two sentences again. You are have not seen the show live in the last 4 days or even in the last 4 days. Input uninformed!
  8. When was the last time you saw the show live? If it wasn't in the last four days then you haven't seen their show. They have a new musical and visual ending to the opener and a new musical and visual closer. They have changed whole minutes of the show. Look at what has happened with their GE scores over the last week. That is a result of the changes that have been made. Their execution scores have fallen back due to the changes not being as clean as the rest of the show. What do you think is going to happen when they clean those changes and the rest of the show. I foresee, as I have all season, Bluecoats being left behind by PR and Cadets due to the changes being made in their shows. In the end it will come down to a 4 team race and Bluecoats better hope that the rest of the 2nd tier corps dont catch up to them.
  9. That will never happen. PR will be all white for at least the next 3 years. The uniforms are replaced every 4 years so they are commiteed to all white for at least 3 more years. Not to mention the board of directors would never allow it.
  10. When was the last time you saw either PR or BC. If you have not seen them in the last 4 days you should not comment on design as both corps had made design changes this week. None of us should be commenting on design or predicting placement based on what we have seen of any corps unless that viewing was in the last few days. This is the time of the season when the changes that make huge diffences in placement are made.
  11. The drum line playing during Ave Maria fits perfectly into the story line of the show. Ave Maria represents the portion of the story where Faust is getting everything he wants and is happy. If you watch the drumline druing that section you will notice that the 6 guys in the guard are in the middle of the drumline doing frantic work. They are representing that even while Faust is getting all the earthly possessions he wants the devil is still there waiting. It is a very integral part of the story PR is telling.
  12. No, visual is not where BD is beating Cavaliers. They are winning on GE. In visual it is about even between BD and Cavies.
  13. If you are going to make predictions 5 weeks before finals you need to take in to account more than how everyone is performing what they have right now. The corps that will end up as the top 4 have a lot yet to add to their shows. If a corps is scoring in the top 4 but only plan to clean the product they currently have, they will be passed by the corps scoring close to them now and still have an unfinished product. You also have to look at how many strong captions they have. If you are top in percussion but 6-8 in all other captions, the best they can hope for is 5-7. The corps that are perennial top 4 are that for a reason. They know how to put a show together and how to develop the show throughout the entire season. BD, Cavies, Cadets and PR are all far from having their production completed. All 4 will have their product cleaned by finals and will pull away from the anyone that is only planning to clean for the remainder of the season.
  14. Now that Indy is over, and before Rockford where BD and Cadets are, where does PR fit in to the crowd. Is it in the gap ahead of Cadets, between Cadets and BC or below BC? If you have seen the majority of the top 4 (PR, Cadets, Cavaliers and BD) where do you see PR fitting in?
  15. We just called it the wedge but it may now be called the leg wedge by the current members. 1989 was the first year we used that move. It was in that show twice and also used in the 1990 show as well.
  16. Yes, the show is very powerful. If they are this loud the first week of June I can just image what it will be like in August.
  17. Lost to Star by 0.7 in prelims and won finals by 1.7 over Star who was over BD by 1.0.
  18. If you live in an area that has a show with 1 or more of the corps you are considering marching with, go watch a full day of rehearsal. After watching for the entire rehearsal ask yourself "Can I do that everyday for three months?" Can you keep up with the corps you most desire to march with? The top D1 corps rehearse at an intense level for 6-8 hours a day on show days and 12-15 on non-show days. I know Regiment will have 3 weeks of 15 hour days before they even see the first competition. I am sure all the other "contender" corps do the same. Are you ready to give your entire summer vacation to drum corps and can you afford to not have a job during the summer? What is your level of commitment?
  19. CCI was not part of DCI. It may have been loosely affiliated with DCM (Drum Corps Midwest). Since virtually all of the participating corps were feeders to DCM corps it may have been run through the DCM office. Most of the competitions were afternoon shows that were a part of a larger DCM show that night. After the '85 season CCI was folded. It had been 4 years since anyone other than PRC had won a show and the corps were starting to become less local in regards to membership. Many of the corps were folded shortly after that season. Madison Jr. was eventually combined into another corps along with CapitolAires, PRC became Phantom Legion and then folded shortly thereafter. A few of the feeders are still around and do local shows but the talent level between these feeder corps and the D1 corps eventually became very large.
  20. Back in the 70s & 80s, there was an entire circuit for feeder corps for the larger midwest corps. Phantom Regiment Cadets, Cavalier Cadets, Madison Jr. Scouts, Pioneer II, Colt Cadets, Kiltie Cadets and several others. All corps were bound by CCI (Cadet Corps International) rules that stated no member was allowed to be over age 16. Shows were the same length as Open Class shows (which at that time were 11 1/2 to 13 minutes) and all the corps marched full drill shows. At that time, most members of the Cadet corps would go to march in the big corps and end up marching for a total of 8-13 years. Several of the corps would tour tour and compete in Class A competitions. Some of the corps did very well against the larger corps. I marched in PRC for 4 years. We won CCI all 4 years, made finals at US Open 2 years, took 2nd at DCI Midwest Class A, made Class A finals to advance to D1 prelims as well as Quarterfinals in my last year.
  21. You the city right but the year and temp are off. In '87 in Jonesboro the practiced in 127 degree heat. 15 minute water breaks every hour and for the show that night the air was so dead the show had no projection and the bugs were so thick you could barely see the stands. We rehearsed all day and we found out Cavs had a laundry day that day.
  22. No they are not just accepting Brass and percussion. They are accepting any member of a marching band so they are accepting woodwinds as well. Question: Is the beginning of what could ultimately become a clinic day that would include all of the DCI top corps? Have all the corps that perform at Murfreesboro be housed at one central location, such as a large university, and have all corps running various clinics throughout one or more days. Make one very large band camp/clinic where you can learn from a combination of staffs from all the top corps.
  23. They will probably simply replace the existing uniforms. Pats letter states they getting new uniforms, not different uniforms. Regiment has replaced the uniforms every 3-4 years since changing to the all white in '87. IMO there very little chance of them going back to all black as it was viewed as a mistake the first time it was done and changed as soon as fiscally possible. There is a reason they have been all white for 11-12 of the last 19 years and they can not afford to get uniforms for the corps proper that are designed specifically for one show theme. The uniform shell has to be able to be usable for at least 3 years. White is the answer to this need!
  24. 1987 DCI South Finals - Phantom Regiment is penalize 0.1 for going over on allowed time on the field. PR lost DCI South finals to BD by 0.1 1989 DCI Qtr Finals - SCV is penalized 0.2 for masks that were blown over by the winds and crossed the back sideline. PR wins Qtr finals by 0.1. Penalty is later removed (after all corps have left the stadium). SCV wins Qtr finals by 0.1
  25. It was only done the night of Finals. It was not even done earlier that day during rehearsal. There were many things that were done at the Finals show that had not been done at any point prior to that night. The uniforms "falling apart", the horns being thrown after the last release. Also, if you look you will see that it was not only bari/euph players in that front row. It was a mix of all of the brass.
