  1. I like what I like...BD and SCV used to be my favorite corps...not so much now. I'm not a homer...
  2. perhaps he was ranking them using his personal judging values...which, is, by the way, what this topic calls for. I would have had BD last, and SVC in 21st or 22nd, but my judging criteria is different than DCI's... My top twelve would look like... 1. Madison 2. Crown 3. Bloo 4. Cavies 5. Jersey Surf 6. Cadets 7. Blue Knights 8. Colts 9. Boston 10. Spirit 11. Pioneer 12. Academy My judging criteria is how I was personally entertained.
  3. you forgot to add "through logical deduction based on the past 3 years shows..."
  4. You realize what kind of crap is gonna hit the fan when BD wins the first TOC on judges score, but loses overall when the crowd vote is factored in...
  5. didn't the Bridgemen used to trap judges on purpose?
  6. 83-99 is my favoritist batch of years... horn books were meaty and complex, but they weren't complex for the sake of complexity. percussion books...ditto some of the drill was just as difficult, or more difficult than anything I've seen in the last couple years. more feel good music...everyone likes to feel good. and let's not forget G horns!!!
  7. seems to be DCI's modus operandi...
  8. This is a drum corps poster... This is a drum corps poster... This? not so much edit...I'll even admit these posters are for different things...2 for show theme, one for a specific performance date but...the visual comparative just shows how bad the TOC poster is..
  9. more drum corps is good...I just don't think they'd ever make the night longer again...they cut time from shows, and eliminated retreats for just this reason.
  10. I was the first to say they deserved to win..they played to the judging sheets, and they did it just about as well as it could be done. I just prefer the judging sheets more closely reflected the majority of fans' sheets...then they'd be playing to the fans, and not just the judges... but..that's not the intent of this topic....
  11. I think it's horrid...you just don't put blue next to blue, and then you have the lovely purple/lavender acid rock splashes in the background... blech...
  12. are you advocating adding an additional 2 minutes, or use the current time allowances and just remove the last 2 minutes from judging? I like the sentiment, but DCI won't go for longer shows, and the alternative is only judging a corps for 9 minutes...(or 9:30...not exactly sure what program length is) and for those that are gonna red score Mikey just because he's Mikey...grow up...really.
  13. there's also one more point to consider in this deal breaker dino discussion... perhaps...now, this is just me spitballing here, but perhaps, Mr. Garfield has only one final straw left because...well, there just aren't any others left.
  14. if they add center fielders, he'll probably quit going also....wrestling midgets...wagons with upright double bass and a mandolin band....banjos...pink elephants and unicorns... that's a lot more than one.... ww is one of his final lines...it's one of mine, also.
  15. I don't see the problem with being a fair weather drum corps fan...I've been one for 35 years...
  16. a 3 minute drum solo is a lot nowadays...during the 3:09 that I timed, it was only percussion and possibly 1 or 2 horns... if just one section of a corps stopped marching for 3 minutes, they'd get grilled on scoring. in my instance, the majority of the corps stopped playing for over 25% of the program... that's significant...
  17. why is vis more important then music? I can find shows in the last...oh...year that have 3 minutes without the majority of their horns playing...
  18. I find this quite ironic...when I say "no synthesizers...if I wanna hear synths, I'll listen to my Rush cd, or go to a Thomas Dolby concert", I get horribly castigated... the second statement is just narrow minded and puerile...
  19. yeah...George's estimation was off by a decimal point...a rather significant decimal point. I've realized that no one has any kind of logical thought whatsoever...I get dinged a point because I spoke the truth...that proves that audience vote for points wouldn't work...really? no....really? look past your naive idealism, and look to fact and logic...he was off by $10800 dollars per $0.10...
  20. 8 vehicles at 8 mpg = 8 gallons of fuel every 8 miles....8/8 = 1 mile per gallon total.
  21. so, yer saying a corps playing a standstill, with g bugles, carrying their tymps, marching symmetrical drill would have a chance at winning? Rules are meant to limit the "anything goes" philosophy that makes most worthwhile pastimes worth watching/participating in. A corps that did a 2 minute standstill in this day and age would get ROASTED on vis. It's perfectly fine for a corps to have 3 minutes in their show where the majority of the brass aren't playing, but if they aren't moving, they're done.
  22. it worked for Prince...for a while... the activity formerly known as drum corps...
