  1. Check out Tuba Christmas. For those of you in California, I'm going to try to attend the performances on Saturday December 8th in Sacramento and Saturday December 22nd in Anaheim. Grab your baritone, euphonium or tuba and come on down! (If you have a G-Baritone, BD Alum Ronny Hirata has music for you!) More Info. here!
  2. There are some nice stadiums here in California ... no rain! :-)
  3. It looks like the show CAN'T go on as long as there are lightning strikes within 8 miles of the stadium. That sounds like the prudent thing to do!
  4. I'm watching INT on the DCA FN ... they must be GREAT, as there's no commentary! ;-)
  5. Just signed in ... HEY GUYS! Wish I were there. :-( Question ... DCA Fan Network keeps cutting in and out ... I did a check, and my internet connection is good. Are they having problems on that end?
  6. Here's a clip of the Blue Devils 2012 video as seen from the Drum Corps Planet "Fan Cam" .
  7. I don't have any "proof" of this, but I seem to remember that there were more people coming to DCI Finals week when Finals night was broadcast live on PBS. Ergo, the simple argument of not streaming DCI Finals night because of less people attending doesn't hold water. There are many, MANY other factors involved (i.e., economy; not wanting to go to Indy year after year; indoor stadium with crappy sound; poor marketing on DCI's part; bad airline connections from Indy; other things to do in life, etc.) that have driven down fan attendance since 1972.
  8. It looks like congratulations for BDA and BDB isn't a "popular" thing to do on DCP, so I'll bump this to the top, as they deserve it: CONGRATULATIONS BLUE DEVILS A and BLUE DEVILS B !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Back to the topic of the thread (and I can't say it enough!) ... CONGRATULATIONS BLUE DEVILS A and BLUE DEVILS B !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. I'd like to offer my congratulations to both the 15 time DCI Champion Blue Devils, and 3 time DCI Champion and current Silver Medalist Blue Devils B. You both had amazing shows that have been presented by the Blue Devils organization. You're shows were designed and taught by the best staffs in Drum Corps history. I, along with all of the other members of the Blue Devils Board of Directors, the Blue Devils Boosters, and the Blue Devils Alumni Association are so proud of all of your accomplishments this year. You have set new standards for future Blue Devils members and staff to surpass. On a personal note: When we went on our first national tour to DCI in 1973, there is no way that anyone in the Blue Devils organization, let alone anyone in the Drum Corps activity, could fathom that our 23rd place corps would evolve into such an organization. You, and all the alumni that preceded you have made us the organization we are today. Again, THANK YOU!
  11. I believe there are only 2 DCA corps playing G bugles: Renegades and Kilties. (any more?)
  12. Sorry, but Cadets DID do some extraordinary drill, but Santa Clara Vanguard (read: Pete Emmons) invented and revolutionized asymmetrical drill.
  13. I've seen many pleas for sanity, going back to the early days of R.A.M.D. I applaud your efforts ... but it PROBABLY won't work!
  14. Generally speaking, as an "entire corps", there was a strong sense of "entitlement" in the early '80s (pretty much after the "original Blue Devils" aged out). Unfortunately that stigma has endured the test of time. The "trash talk / entitlement" mindset was squelched in the later '80s, and the corps members not been in that mindset since.
  15. 1973 Stockton Commodores - Russian Sailors Dance 1973 Argonne Rebels - Fanfare for the New Tie for runner up!
  16. I shot the live streaming video for DCI Fan Network at DCI West at Stanford. From the first note that the Renegades played, to the last note of Santa Clara's encore, it was 5 hours. 2 1/2 Hours of that 5 hours was DEAD TIME ... corps moving cr*p on/off the field ... save 1/2 hour for intermission. Would you go to a 2.5 hour play, and watch it 11 minutes at a time with a long break between acts, but not long enough to go to the bathroom or get a hot dog (and if you did, you weren't allowed back in your seat)? The format of drum corps shows is "grueling" ... forcing fans, who have paid a lot of money, to sit there for 50% of the show, watching the "backstage hands set up the next scene". This way of doing shows is not a "fan friendly" format. Your thoughts?
  17. I'm not a fan of electronics on the field (yes I said it!) ... however I just look as the voice-over as "audio" ... to me it's no different than any other synthesized sound on the field.
