  1. Does someone pay George by the word? He's quite the bloviator. He could shorten this up quite a bit: "We want back in, and we want control of the Board. ummmkay?"
  2. To: George and the directors of the "7" From: The Membership of Drum Corps International Re: Your previous failed coup attempt and math Salutations, We find it interesting that you are communicating to us by that most impersonal and ineffective means of relationship building, email. But we digress. Since your failed attempt to overthrow the DCI board of directors in 2010, culminating in your removal from the board, we have attempted to work with you to retain you within the DCI family. The fracture of such a small organzation can only produce negative results, and as such it's our desire to remain together. To that end we have allowed you, within the DCI framework, to organize, run, and retain the profits from 6 events this coming summer. We wish you well. Your proposal to return to the DCI board of directors and revise the board membership to the directors of the top 12 corps was reviewed. However, a simple math calculation shows that with 12 voting members, 7 of which likely coming from the "7", means the "7" will gain control of the board of directors. Since you proved yourselves untrustworthy in 2010 and have done nothing to change that perception, we're going to have to say "no thanks" to your very thinly veiled "offer." With best wishes for the new year, THE Membership of Drum Corps International :cool:/>
  3. Well, now that you've had time to refine your thoughts on this, what you're Really saying is - you would not like the Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band. I would not disagree with that. :lookaround:/>/>
  4. Yesterday. Rose Bowl. Guy in a Kilties jacket. BTW, Bucky's football team lost, but their band kicked azz. And the Rose Parade - if you've never seen it live, and ever get the chance to....do it. It was AWESOME
  5. It looks like you've answered your question. Life's full of choices (as you know). Some of them kinda suck. But you buck up and move on.
  6. Yeah. That Phantom retread of Spartacus in 2008 was a real dud. SCV's Scheherazade was a yawner repeat of Spirit's version. Madison's Jesus Christ Superstar, well, you could hardly sit throught it, the retread that it was. Yes, repeats seldom work. Much better to play some unlistenable Philip Glass crap.
  7. I like how you are "minusing" each other. Now what? Sal does whatever his next thing is, in or outside of drum corps, and G-Men move on. I would like to think the organization is bigger than one person. I would like to think any organization is bigger than one person. If not, then that organzation has a lot bigger problems.
  8. They've already been slotted in the 9-12 range for 2013, so whether they have a March camp is rather immaterial.
  9. And, lower the maximum age to 18, and I think we're there.
  10. Good one. Hey Garfield AKA Brutus the Buckeye - did you notice - Hockeykids are going to their third Rose Bowl in a row! Three of them this time. This one's the best, because it was completely unexpected. And Barry's coming back to coach one game only. If it can't be Michigan, it might as well be Bucky Badger!
  11. As they were inactive in 1994, I'm guessing you are correct. No one applauded them. But I don't think anyone booed them either.
  12. I love the denial I'm reading on here: Nothing To See Here...Move Along. If all you can cite is one or two moments in a season, yeah, crowd reactions aren't like they used to be. That doesn't mean there are zero crowd reactions today, but I agree they're fewer and farther between. And there are a lot of reasons, most of which have already been mentioned: show design (no pause for impact points); high brow music selections vs. generally accessible music selections.
  13. No, I think it's a cultural phenomenon. You declare you've been wronged, then you have the moral upper hand. I think it's reinforced in the schools nowadays. You throw out the "I'm offended" card, and you automatically win the argument. People will feel sorry for you when you say you got your feelings hurt. It's all the rage at college campuses. People turn each other in for these offenses. Not unlike what happened under Stalin, but I doubt they teach that anymore.
  14. Good one. I'd like to add that I'm "offended." I'm weeping bitter tears. I need more time on my test, I'm a slow reader. It's not fair.
  15. Yes, I can't stop mother nature, but I don't have to like it in the process ! Funny thing, the widely held view is that the old-timers get disgruntled and slip away from drum corps and are replaced by the young. Last summer I took my 3 college age kids to DCI Minnesota....and every one of them said they have no interest in going to a show again. And I won't even get into "why". We've all discussed the ever increasing esoteric nature of DCI. Some call it "evolution." Others don't. Look at Blue Devils - a few very vocal posters here couldn't stop posting about how awesome that show was. My kids thought it was a joke. I've tried - I've lost count of how many shows they and their friends have been arm twisted into attending (by me). I've been taking them since they were being pushed in strollers. And all three are in their college marching band, so it's not like they don't have an appreciation for the activity. I still like to go, but maybe I'll stay away from the special G7 shows. You all can support that. They have lost me with their childish behavior and greed. My opinion of course, I hope I'm not hurting anybody's feelings. I know that's not allowed anymore.
  16. George Hopkins is going to the Troopers ???? Wow- I never saw that coming!!
  17. I know I've said this before, but, what is it with this one foot in and one foot out game they're playing? MAN up and leave DCI, and go your own way if you're going to. This long protracted divorce is ridiculous. Dan has bent over backwards for you, even handing you your own shows, at the expense of the other corps. Enough. In 1971 your predecessors had the courage of their convictions to make a clean break and start their own circuit. What is your problem?
  18. Wait. What? Hey, Fred, we already have a Mike D on this forum. We're good at one.
  19. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, fellas !!
