  1. Last year they announced a champion from the combined Texas shows and, I think, Hattiesburg and Atlanta. I didn't pay much attention except to note that BD won everything they announced.
  2. Awesome review. Nice to see some open class discussions on here. This makes me look forward even more to Michigan City next week.
  3. Well "I" was very entertained by the Blue Devils in Houston. "MY" friend who went with me, who had never see a drum corps show before, was very entertained too (He liked BD and Boston the best). He related this to me in English which "I" heard with "MY" own ears and processed in "MY" brain. (Funny how the people we bring and sit near us often have the same reactions we do) I didn't know there was going to be a test after, so I didn't think to look around me and survey the crowd to see how each person was reacting, so maybe my friend and I were the only two people on our feet at the end of the show. (we were in the third row, so who knows what was going on behind us)
  4. Point of clarification about the corpreps listing - the positions that are listed as 3xx mean Division 3. So position 310 would mean 10th place in Division 3. See the footnote on the score pages for the full explanation. As for the OP, I'm sorry you're feeling disconnected. I wish I had some sage advice to offer as I have been around this activity since 1972 and find plenty of diversity, passion, and excitement in the 2010 shows. In fact, there isn't a show I've seen yet (I've seen all the World Class corps several times and quite a few Open Class) that I didn't at least really like and most of them I love. I'm not sure what to make of your girlfriend's experience but seeing drum corps (for the first time?) on a computer might not be the best introduction. I took a new work colleague to the Houston shows. I tried not to say too much one way or the other as to which shows I liked best or what I felt about any of the shows. I just gave him basic facts - rules, what the show was about, corps location, which corps my son marched. He has a background as a drummer and marched trumpet in high school back in the 1960s. He'd never seen a drum corps. He was totally blown away by Pacific Crest and Mandarins (the first two corps he saw). He had to leave after Troopers on Thursday because it was getting late and a work night but he eagerly came back the next night and stayed until the end. He enjoyed all the corps, was amazed at the diversity, thought the arrangements where brilliant, and was excited just walking into the stadium through the parking lot seeing the drum lines warm up.
  5. While you didn't see everybody, you did see me and I saw everybody. I was too busy taking pictures to take notes for a review. I did enjoy all the performances alot. Pictures are on corpsreps.com
  6. Thanks. I wasn't looking to stir up any trouble or rumors. I enjoyed the cymbals performance at the shows in California and missed them in the Texas performance. I'm sorry to hear they were cut. Mods - this can be closed.
  7. When I saw VK earlier in the season in California, they had a great four person cymbal line but they were missing at Denton on Monday. Anyone have info on why they weren't there? Will they be at finals?
  8. Yes, they were and they did a great job. I was very impressed with the size of the corps and quality of performance. A very entertaining show. (more pictures in the slide show for San Antonio at corpsreps.com)

  19. I got a room at the Marriott in Katy right off I-10 through priceline for $44/night. Less than 15 miles to the show. There was an area that was closer but I also have a client to see in downtown so this location seems perfect. The hotel looks nice - regular price is $109. Marriott Just booked this today. (To get this on priceline, I did a name your own price, picked Houston and selected area #10 for West Houston. The bid $44 for a 3.5 star hotel.) Last year I stayed at Candlewood Suites 19998 PARK ROW DRIVE KATY, TX 77449 at their regular price of $68/night. I remember it being very nice. Looks like it is a wee bit closer than the Marriott.
  20. Thanks for posting this and thanks to everyone who has contributed information to the site and the great volunteers who make it all happen.
  21. Pictures from Allentown, Fort Mill, Madison and Stillwater have been posted at corpsreps.com. Also, you may notice we have done an overhaul of the site design - new logo and color scheme, enhanced search capabilities and better integration of the pictures. When you view any show for which we have pictures, you will see a photo gallery. Also the year pictures are now located on the picture page for each corps. Here are some samples from these four shows. Cadets at Allentown Crown at Fort Mill Madison at Madison Blue Stars at Stillwater
  22. Okay if that's the rule, then we actually have three contests. I think each corps will win one. Crown 74 74.25 74.125 Cadets 73 75.5 74.25 Cavies 72 75.75 73.875 Crown wins first round with a 74, Cavaliers really turn things on for round two with a 75.75, narrowly beating Cadets who also show a lot of improvement. However, the average scores put Cadets at the top even though they don't win either round.
