  7. LOL same here. My son was part of Cape Coral, FL Mariner HS Triton Band. 7-time 3A champs throughout 2000's; he in 2 of 4 plus PSA WGI Drumline Champs in 2006. Football team would kid around with other teams "that they better not mess with our band!"
  8. I beg to differ ... you had a spectacular place right ON the field for 3 incredible seasons most would die for (plus a few slower paced shows in 08)

  12. Well, it was 'tenths' as you thought ... just a few more than (I) expected. Need to get that spread tighter before judging community starts baking it in.
  13. So you're saying Mad World stuff. OK then, you're off the hook.
  14. Well, and there was that fire and stuff :) Maybe we need to lock you in your trailer at Camp Camby while the guys engorge their hefty appetites. Jay, are you at the show making your assessment or brotherly insight ? And seriously, Chris, I'm psyched with Sly's homecoming but I know we ALL have utmost respect and confidence in the Vis staff overall without a doubt - Sly simply brings together another layer with this experienced group.
  15. I thought we already established that Pancakes are better, sir.
  16. So? Not like the corps' themselves aren't pumped as well as fans in the stands (and shelters and bars). What else is there to do -- I mean everyone came for a nite of drum corps. Let the show go on. I'm wondering how relevant the scores (and perhaps performances) will be with all the start-stop, disrupted warmups and mental-readiness stuff, as well as judges clarity with all the delays and changing conditions / gaps in time.
  17. I remember waaayyy back in dark ages there indeed was a corps hockey game for poop&giggles. Cavaliers vs Scouts (?) or was it a more local Chicago corps (Vanguard, Nisei. I can't recall. Memory going. Well, it is my bday today.
  18. I guess DCI won't be posting Recaps until morning ... or they keep the hype building for another 48hrs leading to MN show. EDIT: nevermind. recaps up.
  19. Social Communications Media like Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare are interesting information vehicles which have the potential (and intent?) to enable groups to interact and promote -- where 'Groups' used here refers to stakeholders or interested parties of an org, individual, event or activity. In this regard, Drum Corps is an almost perfect sandbox for the exploitation of social media capabilities to be tested and used effectively depending on ones level of engagement desired. I mean, by nature, the promotion and status of a given corps' whereabouts, schedule, performance, incidents, individuals coming-going-doing, etc. can be or lead to both passive and very active communications (or information for filing) at any given moment. And add at the foundation of communications mediums to which we transact today -- email, website and web portals, youtube, text msging -- consumed NOT simply via personal computer (laptop, nettop, desktop), but via more powerful Smartphones (Droid, iPhone) which have the capability to simultaneously access email, txting, FB, Utube, Twitter, 4Sq, and even DCP. Then, each of these apps begins to enable endless marketing PR communications possibilities accessible by (reaching if they desire) essentially any stakeholder in the value chain. Cavaliers, for example, have been experimenting on the bleeding-edge of this technology in effort to reach, retain and grow its "community of interest". Chris Lugo is a master subject expert, visionary and leader (professionally and for the Corps) in this work and the discipline required in its deployment and content delivery to make it sustainable. Consider the Anytime, Anywhere, Any Way cliche'. As a specific fan, vendor, parent, staff member, rabid honk, or simply a drum corps enthusiast or passing observer, one can by selection of the Application one activates and sets up for 'following', can get info 'pushed' automatically, passively or on-demand. Cavies do a great job of keeping everyone virtually connected to their Corps with daily schedules, locations, snipets about rehearsals, calamities, funny happenings along the way, scores, performance insight including quick-pics, audio sound bites, video teasers, etc. Particularly important (or at least interesting during tour season) since these are ONLY real comm channels (since MOST folks don't follow DCP nor does one get that type of info here on timely or easily digestible bites). So many Social Media channels to effectively use: the Web sites (Cavalier.Org in general; Splooie.Org for LARGE alumni contingent and deeper private info, updates, commraderie), Facebook for typically daily goings-on but buried amongst folks' other FB entries, Twitter for specific tid-bits but usually focused on show-day or on-road info, and a reasonable open-authorization policy for posting videos on Youtube as well as its own Subscription Channel for corps generated content (e.g., FanMail, Staff Notes, etc.), and Foursquare being used increasingly for organizing and locating moving clumps of fans and alums at watering holes on show days or in transit! And again, with Smartphones and Wifi, one can wire it all in. With plasma screens and a laptop and Wifi, one can multitask all these "windows" while watching FanNetwork or VODs! Crap, I need to turn these all off and actually work!
  20. Posted on Cavaliers FB: show cancelled due to the storm.
