  1. PR lot vids are insane! I havent seen pit at all but its the best battery book imo! :)
  2. looking for tickets to the Glendale, AZ show! I waited 2 long and I wanna make sure I have gooood seats for me and my buds! I am driving down from Vegas so you can pick the time and place if u want 2 sell! :)
  3. you are correct, bragging that you talked to a caption head is very childish.
  4. ok lets all start name dropping I talked to someone important at a booth at wgi finals this year. his name was tom something.
  5. have any lines used the same method a studio drummer would use with a plexiglass box to block out other instruments? I would think a mic by the resonators would sound best and some kind of sound shield to eliminate bleed from the field would be best. putting mics above will give you more mallet to bar contact sound and not the full sound of the resonators... I would think.
  6. woah!!! when a line has 10-5-5 won't they take up so many yards it will be impossible to be clean?! there must be 30 yards from end to end!
  7. Great review Maedhros... which will of course open you up to flames. I would even say you'd make a good writer for drum corps world! ^OO^
  8. I also think they are top 12 material. When lined up next to Mandarins, Esparanza, and Pacific Crest which are Div 1, The Academy is simply on another level. I hope they make a run for Div 1 finals.
  9. Often the odds are stacked against people because they don't know what they're doing. DCI is right for drawing the line at 30. B) To the hard working kids in Jester, The Academy is just down the street!
  10. It seems Cavies drums aren't scoring as high as usual and that's about the only thing holding them back as far as numbers go. But what do I know I haven't seen the show! I'm in the middle of the desert and Cavies don't come out this way :(
  11. Jeff, when you go through and rip apart a person's post in many different parts with quotes, you are just using too much text to make a point. SNORE!!!
  12. While I'm venting, I'd like to never see a prop on the field again. They are always poorly crafted foam/pvc/particleboard nightmares that are nothing more than accidents waiting to happen. Remember Cadets and their big tarps on the field? Watching someone run around trying to anchor it down before the wind takes it away is really distracting from the show. Everytime someone walks up a ramp, you are waiting for them to fall. If you want a big prop, do it right. Watch SCV '91.
  13. I would like to see an end to super flaming guard guys wearing overly provocative, revealing and inappropriate clothing. There's a difference between being theatrical and just trying to shove homosexuality down the audience's throat. There are little kids in the audience and we don't need a shirtless boy wearing makeup, spandex shorts and leggings prancing about just because anyone who objects will be called a homophobe. When did drum corps turn into a pride parade?
  14. Old school DCI fans remember the Blue Stars as one of the top Div 1 or Open Class corps from decades ago. It's nice to see them making some huge gains and revitalizing the program. I really hope this year is a stepping stone to next year and just an abnormality. I personally like amps for the pit, but I don't like vocals. Not because I'm "old school" but because I haven't heard anyone pull it off yet. Cadets and their drumspeak were okay- although they completely ripped off a WGI drumline from 4 years earlier, and didn't even do as well- the original group drummed while speaking into mics. There were A LOT of drummers who saw Cadets last year and thought "wait a minute, I hope no one thinks they thought of this first!" I like the Cadets, but innovation isn't ripping off a high school years later. For regular narration, I don't think a young person's voice has the timbre of a seasoned speaker and makes the show sound more like a high school musical, even if well done. I don't watch the guard, so obviously I don't go to a DCI show to hear a story- I go to hear good music.
  15. Well, small corps should still always strive to grow and improve. No corps should make it a goal to have only 30 members. If a corps is consistantly having trouble staying alive they need to take an honest look at the organization and be realistic. I'm not saying there shouldn't be Div 3 corps, but some of them are actually robbing their students of a summer that might have been more productive and educational in their hometown marching band or at a better managed corps. This is the case in states like Texas where there are insanely good high school programs that rival Div 1 corps in quality. For example, when a drumline hits the field with 2 snares and one quad, those kids are not getting the experience and education they deserve. When a corps fields just 2 members of a colorguard, they are also missing out on what drum corps was designed to offer. I don't see how it could be fun! But maybe they just don't know what they're missing! :)
  16. There is a fine line between being innovative and being obnoxious. I have always been a fan of the Cadets and appreciate what they have done, but this year they are really starting to get... what's the word... tacky? I hope there's a new vote banning the use of amplified vocals. Oh, and some sort of costume regulation too! http://www.dci.org/images/news/07_10_2006_...scharacters.jpg
  17. LisaLisaMoMeesa please stop sending me threatening private messages. I know you think you're part of the Dept. of Homeland Security, but people posting opinions on an internet forum is no reason to start pretending you're Rumsfeld. If you want my IP address, here it is: 71.108.12.95. Now go call the cops if you think it will help. And if you think I'm just some troll, check my posts. I am very pro-drum corps and a fan of the activity.
  18. With a spread that small, a judge looking in the right/wrong direction for a few seconds is the only difference. When it comes to this activity, I almost prefer a tie to someone losing by such a narrow margin.
  19. funny- "final spot in the top 6" That's just silly. No where else in the world of competition does "top 6" mean anything. Top 12 for finals, yes. Top 3 for gold, silver, and bronze, yes. But top 4, 5, 6, 7, etc. just doesn't really matter.
  20. I also liked the show a lot. I have some good lot vids somewhere in my pile of tapes.
  21. Yamato did a standstill last night. Excellent music with a solid number of members in all sections.
  22. I think judges sometimes keep point spreads too close, so no one gets their feelings hurt. :)
  23. I overheard someone on staff from another Div 3 corps say about Jester, "they are the bravest corps on the field this year."
  24. So running around in black pajamas shouting "EVIL!" makes someone a class act? Why do you patrol the forums, hunting for anyone pointing out that a corps has a weak section or a bad year? I wasn't aware that opinions were forbidden and this was a Nazi forum. Everyone is awesome! Everyone plays so well! ...there, is that better?
