FieldofBlueDreams replied to JFitz19's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
phantom will win their first OWN championship soon... beyond that, i'd say bluecoats. -
In 2007 I want to March with...?
FieldofBlueDreams replied to Maestro1's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
great post. i was going to say something similar. nobody "walks into a championship" b**bs You're pretty mistaken if you think for some reason that any of the corps who repeatedly have a chance at a title every year just sit back and wait for the ring and the medal to land in their hands. -

what do you mean nobody else was going to come close? i'd say that .35 is pretty friggin close. they were good.. but they werent THAT much better than either phantom or blue devils. at least thats what the numbers say. -

The arguement of dominance and three shows short of undefeated is not quite the same... the blue devils beat phantom in every single show (and usually by points) except for finals night. but nobody goes around saying BD dominated phantom ALL season, even though they slapped them around at every direct competition until quarterfinals. The blue devils and cavaliers were the most consistant corps all year... with the spread between them usually pretty close (twice within .025). And no, i wouldnt consider them dominant if they went undefeated. A win doesnt mean domination. .02 or .025 is not dominant. Dominating is what happens when you run over a chipmunk with your car. Being the winner, but taking significant damage is what happens when you hit a deer. Now, if they had beaten the blue devils every show by .8 like in semi-finals (and i still disagree with that number :)) then yes, i'd say that would be quite dominant, showing that every time they compete, the little green men award them with that sort of spread. But t'was not the case, the case was that the judges awarded them (USUALLY.. emphasized with caps before the DCP cavalier rescue squad comes to smite me) with marks that said "eh.. you're only better by the smallest margin". Now, what i would say, was that the blue devils dominated the cavaliers in the early season, the cavaliers started to squeek by during the middle of the season continuing through allentown, and that they were the outright winner for finals week, with larger spreads akin to how BD did it to them in the beginning. -

i feel like a moron for reading all of that nonsense.. i only have one comment, and its for the person who said they made winning a championship look easy... their semi-finals score was the highest spread between 1st and 2nd all year long, which, .8 is a ridiculous number between corps who come in at finals only, what was it, like .6 or something between 1st and 3rd? im sure it wasnt easy... since they lost 3 shows to devils, and bearly clawed by them in san antonio. allentown they were .02 ahead as well i think. (same panel both nights) congrats to the cavies, but i wouldnt say it was a season of domination as this thread seems to imply. definately an exciting season though. -
Strange Rules of Drum Corps

i think the blue devils have a rule that all male members must have a beard or goatee at all times... hehe. -
Blue Devils 2007
FieldofBlueDreams replied to WordRider's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
devils dont fear any corps. BD competes against itself to beat every other BD corps that came before them... year to year they may not be the best, but over the history of DCI nobody is close, so they have nobody left to beat but themselves. -
Why aren't The Cavaliers hated?
FieldofBlueDreams replied to johnweldy's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
The Cavies are hated just as much as every other corps that people seem to have an issue with. Every corps has its enemies, Cavaliers included. -

My semi-annual repertoire suggestions...

Julie Giroux commissioned "To Walk with Wings" for my high school marching band. Excellent show... we weren't able to perform it well enough to do it justice but i definately can see it on the DCI field. -
Show names you just love.

Think i can do it?
FieldofBlueDreams replied to awesome's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
sure you can... if you are dedicated to learning a brass instrument and you practice a lot you could get into a corps. as per auditions, it really depends on the corps you are auditioning for. Obviously corps who continually place in the top 5 every year are going to have a LOT of high end talent, especially on trumpet. As you move down the ranks you'd find auditions easier and the staff more willing to accept people who arent among the best. as john meehan said on his blueview segment... there's nothing stopping anybody from being in the corps. -
music majors in drum corps
FieldofBlueDreams replied to Orpheus's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
music performance major, current marcher. I suppose i could do something else and i've had a few people jokingly (although there is truth in every joke) ask me why im going to college to just get really good at trumpet. I can only say, as the above post, that its the only thing i love to do. -
sweet, i'll have to check that out. im sure it worked well. FFVII has some AMAZING moments

i've always wanted to hear some of the stuff from Final Fantasy on the field. i think it could work well. NOT the movie final fantasy, but rather something from the games.
