  1. "Corpsman up" is a good piece and the whole CD is pretty fantastic.
  2. So, how do we (DCA Championship weekend) impact Rochester's economy? Here's what I can think of: Hotel rooms Restaurants/Bars Beer stores Stadium rental Gas stations Airport What else? Is there a number or figure that estimates how much we affect the local economy while we're in town? edit for poor grammar
  3. I'm following Dick's lead and competing twice in the mid-range
  4. Maybe this isn't want you are looking for but... I promote drum corps.. ..on my car-it has several corps bumper stickers on it (I'm always looking to add more) ..at work (teacher). I have a big drum corps poster on my wall behind my desk and I bring it up in classes from time to time since I'm currently marching DCA. I also have drum corps links on my work website (turns out a parent of one of my 8th graders marched Bridgemen back in the day) ..online. My facebook page is always referencing drum corps. My friends and coworkers know about the activity because I'm always talking about it. ..by wearing corps attire when appropriate. If I can wear a drum corps shirt to an outing, I do.
  5. I agree. I had a lot more fun at DCA I&E than I did at DCI I&E in 2006. So much fun, that I'm doing it again...3 times
  6. Seriously? According to you, every corps that didn't make finals laid a huge egg on the field all summer. Give me a break.
  7. I loved trooping the stands while playing G.O.!
  8. I've been using a DEG 6v for several years. Are corps still using that mouthpiece?
  9. I don't have a whole lot of familiarity with brands, so I really don't know what's the "best" sounding horn. It would just be nice to own a 3-valve if I could find one that I could afford. I've played on a 3-valve Dynasty and I'm currently playing a 2-valve King with Shenandoah.
  10. I was just looking over the results from DCI I&E and there were a ton of deductions. I don't think I've ever seen so many penalties for an I&E event. What were they for? I saw that a penalty cost someone a title..what's the deal? I&E Scores 2009 edit-to include the link
  11. Did you get my pm? Please email me with pictures of the horns. I may be interested in buying one of them. adfiumara@gmail.com
  12. Yeah..it's just one of those things. I think to a certain degree, it's the connotation of "band." The "band geek" image comes to mind when people mention marching bands. It just does. We in drum corps try to separate ourselves as much as possible from geekdom. That's why we have the term bando :) I don't like being called a band. It may be elitist or irrational, but that's how it is. We are a different activity with different traditions and expectations. It's really hard to put into words.
  13. Looks sharp. In how many stations/markets to you plan on airing this?
  14. I'm curious what mouthpieces DCI/DCA corps use for their mellos. I know a lot of corps have their members use one particular brand and size. I'd like to get a list going...
  15. I'm looking for a 3-valve mello in G..anyone looking to sell? I'm just looking right now, but if the price is right, I may be a buyer.
  16. I'm going with two moments that I saw live: Glassmen's ballad and Colts' reprisal of "Victory at Sea" after the shipwreck part of the show. I know I've mentioned those in other threads, but I really enjoyed those two moments!!
  17. I'm thinking about getting a 3-valve G mello. If anyone has one for sale, or knows of a corps selling theirs, please contact me. I'm just looking for now, but if I like what I see, I may be a buyer.
  18. I don't "love" it, but I like it..it's a good show.
  19. My theater was about 3/4 full, crowd loved Crown-they applauded every time Carolina was mentioned. I wasn't thrilled with the sound. I don't know how much of it was the broadcast or how much was the stadium, but it just didn't sound right. We only had one minor glitch, so no worries there. It would have been nice of Delucia didn't keep saying "the corps hasn't made finals in XX years" like the only good drum corps are in the top 12. I loved the classic moments they showed between many of the corps. I wish they would have done more of those and fewer interviews with the "featured dancers" or "characters"...what is this, a play? I also appreciated the information about what the corps were playing and what their theme was supposed to be, because otherwise I would have had no idea what these corps were trying to portray. I still didn't get most of them, but the commentary helped some. Two of my favorite moments happened before Boston's show started. The camera was panning around as the members were setting up. You had the trumpet guy stretching behind the guard girl and then another guard girl who was trying to hold her pose but couldn't quite do it with the camera in her face..lol
