  1. Never saw that before. It's right around 9:20 on the Fan Network if anyone hasn't seen that. I think the camera crew was tricked by the big horn playing high notes.
  2. Gotta disagree. The issue for me isn't the quality of the patches, but the authenticity of the wall of brass sound that defines Drum Corps. Well, percussion adds a thing or two but you get my point. It's like using steroids in sports. It cheapens the competition by using artificial methods.
  3. Doubt they will. It would cut into DVD sales. 2008 On Demand doesn't show quarters either.
  4. From the guy that things bears is spelled with a "z". Good grief!!! ;-)
  5. I guess all it will take is a small corps to amp up and sound as huge as a big corps and the rule will be retracted.
  6. I think the original purpose of electronics on the sidelines was to add tonal shades unavailable without electronics, not to fill the role of breast implants for the brass line. I think most in drum corps like their brass natural, not fake. Myabe some corp will replace all their brass with something like the Morrison Digital Trumpet. Everyone has an 88 note range and no pesky embouchure problems.
  7. Just my opinion, no digs intended, but I think ten years from now I'll remember... 1) Cadet's tribute to the past logos during Tonight. 2) Final 60 seconds of the Cadet's show. 3) Crown's funny walk 4) The person that called Cav's show a Ricola commercial 5) Blue Devils on chairs and probably "1930" 6) Crap, Phantom dropped how much???? 7) Troopers made finals!!! 8) Bluecoat's cloud shirts For reference I'm trying to think about what I remember from 2007. All I can think of is the hot chick from Crown's guard and the laser beams. So I'll probably remember nothing from 2009 in ten years.
  8. Congrats to BD on the win and congrats to all the corps for a great season.
  9. I was at a Best Buy that was playing the Drumline throwdown on a large screen TV. A small crowd gathered around to watch.
  10. I was never in a corps, so my opinion is only from my butt in the seats... My personal opinion is that there is a bigger disconnect between playing for the judges and playing for the crowd. I find some of the lower scoring corps more enjoyable than higher scoring corps. High scores do not equate to greater enjoyment. At least not for all. The pendulum will swing towards "artsy", people will become less interested and stop attending and the pendulum will swing back towards enjoyment. I know I'm out of touch with current day drum corp reality because I don't see how it's possible for BD to be beating Cadets. Looking objectively, it's probably because I've seen the Cadets live this year and loved it. So to beat the Cadets in my head BD has to beat the live show that I saw with a 128kbps video stream. Never happen. I'm rambling too much.....
  11. Great info. Thanks so much. I'm not sure which comment I had the bigger chuckle from, the guy that started drum corps when cars had tail fins or the guy that is slowly turning into the six million dollar man one screw, bolt or joint at a time. ;-) Gotta give it a shot -- just as long as they don't take as long as they do on America's Got Talent to tell you that you're out. Yeah, I was watching it tonight. Sad, I know...
  12. Screw it. I'm going to give it a shot. The worst they can do is laugh me out. Heh. So, it's back to the gym. I need to go anyways and I'm not far from my "fighting" weight. It's a good motivation. I'll look around for a brass instructor in the area. Always made the biggest gains on electric bass when with an instructor to keep you honest. I've played mellophone, baritone, and euphonium. Any thoughts on which would be the better path? At this point, I'd say that the start and the end of woodshedding would be roughly equal on my part for any of the instruments. Do the Bucs still play Dynasty? Thanks. I really appreciate the info!
  13. The day I realized that I was getting old was when I was at one of my daughter's cheerleading competition and the Maryland Terps competition sqaud was there doing an exhibition. Of course, I was thinking "Oh yeah. College cheerleaders." They got on stage and I thought they looked so young. I realized I was a perv, and an old man. ;-)
  14. Hi, First off, I was never in DCI. I was in the Army and by the time I got out I had aged out. So I did college band and high school, of course. I never even looked at DCA because of the comment of one person that was in DCA, "It's just an excuse to drink on the weekends." I'm about two hours away from Reading. I really miss doing something with brass. Here's the question, is forty too old? I can pick up a euphonium, woodshed, get the chops back and audition in a year. But am I going to look like "gramps"? Anyways, just wanted to hear your thoughts. Appreciate any comments and I won't be offended in the least if you tell me I'm too old. ;-)
  15. My iPhone shoots very nice HD video. No zoom, but it looks good.
  16. Am I remembering correctly that "private use" meant that you couldn't post the pictures on the web?
  17. I won't be surprised if they ban all cameras in the near future. Just about every camera including SLRs are equipped with HD video recording. Wouldn't want the VOD site to be upstaged. I couldn't find anything on the website either. You could email them and maybe you'll get a response.
  18. I normally love Cavs, but I got a big belly laugh out of that statement. Riccola-la-la-la-la. Heh. :)
  19. Same here. I saw them very early and I noticed that they were wearing chartreuse "housewife" outfits and that's about all that I noticed until the show was over. Maybe it's because the brass are doing a lot of dance moves and they wear white which stands out more? Dunno.
  20. Copyrights do expire and music is in the public domain. Most classical music would fall into that category. Strangely, while Beethoven is in the public domain, "Happy Birthday" is not. That's why most chain restaurants don't sing "Happy Birthday to You" at tables, they'll do some variation. http://www.snopes.com/music/songs/birthday.asp
  21. Just in case anyone else never heard of this like me, Fan Network, Blue Devils 1989 and the moment is right at 5:45. Honestly, I think the hair styles were more tragic. Wait.... thinking back to the perm I had in '89.
