  1. 2000 or 1993 The top 5 in 2000 were the most entertaining they've ever been, including two of the best shows ever put on the field (Cavies and SCV). Cadets were also, obviously, amazing and entertaining, and BD's show was one of their darker and more well-designed shows, as well. And Boston, well, they were the fan favorite--a good, fun show. But everyone was great that year from Crossmen to Bluecoats, and they may have slipped a bit but Madison's show was still fun to watch and hear. And '93, well, ####.
  2. Cavaliers 95, 00 Madison 97 Blue Devils 94, 01 Cadets 93, 98 Those are the few that spring to mind
  3. Madison Phantom Southwind Crown Bluecoats
  4. 1. Madison 2. Cadets 3. Phantom 4. Crown 5. Southwind 6. Glassmen 7. Bluecoats
  5. I feel like everyone has been saying this exact same thing for the past sixty years. And drum corps goes on.
  6. Actually, I have seen the shows. Cadets narration, while not throughout the entire show, is essentially the same in character as Seattle's: used to explain the concept of the show. The first thing any writer/designer/artist worth his salt learns is 'show don't tell.' That concept apparently went right out the window. I love Cadet's show minus that opening monologue and that annoying Bjork speak (Bjork's the only woman who can get away with that), but that narration really puts a damper on a great show. As for BD--their narration doesn't explain away the show. We just jump right in. The narrator has a charater and he sticks to it; he understands his role in the show. There's no 'This show is about a dance marathon! In reverse! And now you're about to enter . . . The Dance Derby of the Century! Hold on tight!' Rather, we just get in on the show and go to town. I'm still not a fan of narration by any means, but becuase of the way they use it, I think BD is the only group that has used it successfully.
  7. I went to the theatre last night expecting to be on the 'SCV is getting hosed bandwagon,' but they're . . . well, they're just not. The drill is simple and not very effective. What happened to SCV pushing the envelope with regards to drill (2000, 2003). The music is good, but not outstanding. The show drags. I never thought I would say that about a Vanguard show, but it's just not up to par with my expectations with them.
  8. bad question maybe, but I can't get onto dci.org right now how long will the semi's stream be up? I want to be able to watch it another time, since I"ll be out tonight.
  9. Cascades by far, followed by Cadets. Bluecoats amped vocals didn't bother me (beyond the fact that they're amped vocals) and neither did Blue Devils, because those two corps didn't use them to broadcast the 'point' of the show to the audience. Both Cascades and Cadets took any mystery out of their show with the narration--they assumed the audience was too stupid to figure it out on their own, so added Cliffsnotes throughout the show. Blue Devils show this year is, I think, the only example we've come across the past two years wherein a show could not be possible without those vocals.
  10. Just back from the theatre. I sat next to the most annoying guy in the world. He sang along with the corps, but also ridiculed every last one of them while they were on the field (except, of course, for the corps he marched with). Biggest surprises? Mandarins, Boston, and Crown. Loved their shows. The biggest surprise? I really liked BD's show. I couldn't get enough. My one question? What happened to SCV's drill? They've got nothing this year. I was pretty disappointed.
  11. How about this one? I'll be at Union Square in NY
  12. whoa there killer--a drink every now and then ain't gotta eviscerate your liver
  13. Dude, it's drum corps. Calm yourself. I was an English major and am geting my Master's at NYU and it doesn't bug me. Just have fun!
  14. I ordered two tickets for the Union Square showing of the DCI Classic Countdown, but something's come up and I'm not going to be able to make it. Any want to buy them off me instead of ticketmaster? Same price and all. PM or e-mail me.
  15. I was never treated another near this way at Madison, nor do I know anyone who was. That must be a rare, rare case.
