  1. I was on the Black Knights brass staff in the early 70's when Mike was in the line. He was a fantastic musician who could perform on several different instruments. He played french horn in '70 and '71, and was a soloist. RIP Bushman.
  2. Not carefully enough. "Musicality is optional"? Do you really believe Donnie VanDoren and his brass staff would tolerate any form of "garbage" playing?
  3. From the Madison Scouts facebook page - "The Scouts have a few select positions available in the horn line. In particular, we are looking for lead trumpet players with exceptional range. If you are interested in auditioning, please contact Dann Petersen at director@madisonscouts.org" "Double Cs consistently and strong would put you on upper lead and/or solo work."
  4. Kansas Dave, Yeah,I've been around drum corps for a few years...but, I didn't march at age 12 for 9 seasons with the same corps.
  5. Mike Ramelli was one of the Royal-Airs drum majors in 1965 and VFW baritone solo champion in '64. May have taught Kilts? Ask Norman.
  6. I've always thought the main theme from Elmer Bernstein's "To Kill A Mockingbird" would make a great ballad.
  7. Michael Turner Auxilliaries Concord Blue Devils Michael has over 30 years experience at the top of the pageantry activity, including over 14 years as color guard choreographer for the Madison Scouts (1980-1992) and 4 years with the Santa Clara Vanguard (1993-1997). Currently, Michael is the General Manager and Production Coordinator for the Concord Blue Devils' latest venture, "BD Entertainment."
  8. And according to his facebook page, Joe Hobbs will also be joining Shane on Phanton's percussion staff.
  9. I agree, great job arranging the Petrushka brass book by Jay Bocook. Guard staff included: Carol Abohatab, Scott Chandler and Tam Easterwood.
  10. And back in the day, the location of the sponsoring VFW and/or American Legion post was also a factor.

  12. I would also love to hear Phantom Regiment do "Carmina Burana" but I was under the impression that it was no longer possible to obtain the rights from the Orff family. However, Scott Stewart was able to get permission in 2009 for the Kilties to play several movements from this classic piece.
  13. Correct, Jimmer was involved a long time ago with Clifton Williams Symphonic Dance #3. He did an arrangement of this selection as an opener for the 1985 Troopers when Donnie was their brass caption head.
  14. Actually Brad and Donnie have been at All the camps since last November and will be with the corps all summer.
  15. "just eh " - FYI...Donnie has not turned this brass line loose yet. Be patient as it's first about quality of sound. The triple F volume will happen.
  16. With guard costumes designed by Chad Duggan and silks designed by Michael Cesario.
  17. The Bernstein Symphony #2 "The Age of Anxiety" selections are out. Problems obtaining the rights.
  18. Freddy has not been with Spirit for some time. He's been on Phantom's brass staff since 2005 including this year.
  19. The 2010 Madison Scouts have assembled a first class guard staff this season that includes: Rosie Miller Queen - Caption Supervisor Jim Moore - Choreographer Bryan Sutton - Caption Head Kaysey Thompson - Sabre/Dance Tech Mike Novak - Rifle Tech Charlie Gumpert - Consultant There are still openings for qualified male applicants. 20. Correct, Marty was the percussion arranger/caption head for the Black Knights from 1973 to 1975.
  21. I certainly agree that Frank does an excellent job and his latest "Off the Record" is no exception. Loved the segments on Hy, Ray Baumgardt and especially Truman Crawford! BTW John, that's Chicago Royal-Airs without an "e". A common mistake.
  22. I marched with several of these guys in the Chicago Royal-Airs Reunion Corps and can confirm they are all great players! Add the talented Chuck Naffier to the mix as arranger and you can expect a terrific show. Good luck at DCA SineWave!!
