  1. They play movement 2 from symphony 10. Some of the arranging is good, other parts just feel gimmicky with power chords randomly thrown in.
  2. Didn't so much like the treatment of the Shostakovich, but otherwise the music is fantastic.
  3. It is awkward when the announcer asks if the corps is ready and receives no response. Hadn't noticed that - I guess that makes me feel better
  4. Sound in the theater really wasn't bad besides the difficulty the bass drums had penetrating. I assume the DVDs will be at least as good.
  5. Someone said a few days ago that several corps have recorded with Box 5 Productions this summer. I only have one recording by Box 5 (Crown 2007), but it's spectacular, and I'm curious when/where the 2009 shows will be available.
  6. I think we've learned that they do have one more shot at this decade, but not at the 2000s. How does that make you feel?
  7. Agreed. The 1984 WSS received a much more musical treatment. I don't know why the Cadets are instructed to play in this way.
  8. I was about to argue for Crown's use of piano at the beginning of Sensemaya, but I just realized that there is no piano. I was just hearing low marimba and timpani. Would that low marimba even be audible without amps though?
  9. Without amps, you couldn't use a piano in the pit, which is something I have enjoyed in this year's shows.
  10. SCV did beat them in music. =) (That's probably actually what you meant)
  11. I think the two characters were designed for a more abstract interpretation than what you want to give them.
  12. Not the entire time. There are a few key moments though.
  13. Like this http://www.dci.org/scores/recap/view.cfm?e...d=42&full=1
  14. Oh yeah, two things shut everyone up. SCV and Crown's preshow.
  15. All I remember DeLucia saying is that the show didn't have much emotional impact for him.
  16. Dynamics. Their use of dynamics does nothing for me musically.
  17. I would like to see Colts overtake Troopers, Glassmen are ranked way too high for how disappointing their music is, and I thought Vanguard had a stronger show than the Cadets tonight. Otherwise, I'm happy, and the broadcast was great.
  18. 1. 2005 2. 2007 3. 2008, 2009 5. 2006 Angelus was one of the first drum corps shows I'd ever heard, and I've been hooked on Crown's sound ever since. I don't think I'll be able to decide between 2008 and 2009 until the broadcast Thursday.
  19. There's a finals video on the tubey thing in which Crown sounds to have had a tear at the beginning of the festival overture section, but the camera is off to the side of the stands, so I'm not sure EDIT: I shouldn't say tear, more like the trumpets weren't together for a second
  20. Cool, but I meant the 2008 finals =P I guess I'll have to settle for less legitimate means of watching the shows until they're available by VPD
  21. Seriously? That doesn't bode well for stingy fans like me who want to see the finals shows without buying the DVD
  22. I didn't get that feeling at all. You can hardly judge them based on the few seconds each was interviewed. "anybody notice how dumb ... these judges looked and sounded" Now that's just mean.
