  1. You should feel pretty good. Crusaders were sensational and one of my favorites. Your corps also could have closed out that show very effectively. You had the crowd. Thanks for the links. Way to go BAC
  2. Obviously you did take it seriously and should be proud. The balance, dynamics, tempo, articulation were all there. Hanover had zero problem with volume or numbers. Hate to tell you but you are one of the bigger corps. The music passages were very well defined with accurate rhythms, the players were very alert and musical ideas were communicated and understood. Hanover, RCA was yesteryear, in the alumni circuit today you can put on a show as worthy as anyone. The audience loved it. The green uniforms and bright black plumes sparkled. The formation you chose to play in was well dressed and effective for the venue. No other corps did a better job (IMO) of taking into consideration the setting and adjusting the show, especially for this being the first time there. You did not overblow, I could hear definition. I heard quality. If you had set up "Never Walk Alone" with a dedication and had not executed it that would have been... not good, but it was beautiful and appreciated. After the show one thing that kept running through my head was the descending stepwise melody line in "Get it On" which I believe was split between sections... it just rolled out without strain or tension, each attack was on time and played as an ensemble, it is still playing in my head. In a room such as this volume past a certain point only causes inability to hear definition. Hanover was loud, however, it was a good quality loud, a balanced, well supported, musical loud that contrasted with the many different dynamics you employed rapidly in your routine. This corps should be seen and heard more. Im sure it can be even better as you improve as individuals those things which escaped audience members who there to enjoy, not to judge. Well done.
  3. You did say ANY corps not just DCI era junior corps right? The longest ending probably happened sometime in the 70s or maybe 80s in senior corps when corps like the Cabs used to let the last chord just hang forever while the drum major turned to the audience eliciting response, then he would turn back to the corps and have them play all out for a couple seconds to finally end it. A good example of that is actually 1996 Crossmen at the end of Niner-Two. If you are looking for the longest recorded ending I dont know but the longest ending ever played... my guess is some random DCA show in the 70s or 80s when some drum major just couldnt get enough.
  4. thank you very much for posting that, I would not have wanted to overlook it
  5. oops I missed Dugan's cue to change the subject. sorry (as a Philly resident I dare not touch the football topic)
  6. My opinion as a big Hurc fan is that I dont want the corps discussed in this way, Im sorry to bump this topic. I feared after watching the performance at finals from the 3rd tier that they would not hold their prelim placement. I saw marchers not hitting sets, I heard horns playing out of ensemble and releases that werent clean so I didnt feel they got shafted. Recaps show 5th in Field Visual and 5th in Field Brass which confirmed my fears. Its just another part of the difficult climb to the top. Before winning five 1sts, Bucs spent seven years in the 2nd - 4th positions 1998-2004. With so few active corps I think everyone wants CT to succeed. I want the CT Hurricanes to be viewed as a corps that has the support of the drum corps community (judges included). The spirit of the corps after finals seemed undaunted.
  7. more members who competed against each other talking about corps, that bit with the Cavie was nice, more design and instruction commentary (from staff) include I&E, include corps not in current world class, footage of old retreats if possible, slide show of former members submitted pictures, live broadcast at a theatre chosen by surprise, interviews with players from different decades, more footage at camps with some close ups of performers, do some slow mo footage of drummers and then speed it up... do a 4 winningest corps show with 3 performances by each of the top 4.
  8. I predict that Prelims will have Bucs in 1st but then Hurcs will take Finals tied with Bush jumping up from 5th place (MN Brass will be 4th by like.05) then Hurcs will play off at retreat their revived circus medley and Bush will go nuts and... oh wait there is not retreat, nevermind... how anticlimactic
  9. Could you please include best wishes from the Reilly Raiders? I noticed you guys picked up your own version of "Its Not Easy Bein Green" We arent doing that number any longer but from one green corps to another... we offer our encouragement. Walt Biehn (program coordinator RR, 27 alum)
  10. Im very glad to hear St Kevins is doing well. It is not out of sight out of mind for sure. We all feel encouraged when others do well. I was sorry about the Light Brigade being a 27 alum. I know Defenders and Legends and BAC are all active up thereabouts. We will see you in Plymouth this year. Keep on striving.
  11. Chris Dufault was one of the best instructors I got to work with in Lancers
  12. I feel the same "jealousy" as the original poster. Even though there has been some DCI cinema I dont know if I would ever want to see it dramatized like the drumline movie. It would be a joke. Time in corps is spent working, drama is not welcome, but I digress... It is a shame that the masses dont know about the history of rudimental drumming and understand the talent in drum corps. The movie in question is a disservice IMO to the art of marching percussion but thats MO. At the very least the movie is a thorn in the side to guys like me. When people find out I play and then bring up that movie as if that represents me in any way. Having to explain to others the difference between what I do and what they saw in that movie is a real pain. Having to address ignorant enthusiasm with experienced objection is no fun. I would still love to see and would pay to see a drumline playoff at championships where everyone can play for each other and appreciate and compare playing instead of scores... I would pay big time for that.
  13. did somebody day rivalry? I think the meaning of the word has changed. the best rivalry story I know of can be found here: about a fight in Miami between Cavaliers, St Vinnies, Reilly & Archie link
  14. hey! finally somebody with a similar idea... should not be done in this band style "throwdown" manner, it should be done so that all the top drumlines can see what the others are doing, all that work and preparation, it should be showcased for the percussionists themselves, I would pay alot of money to see it! Same as it ever was, drumlines that are really playing a challenging book can make a statement and those who are playing tacet and check patterns can be exposed. It would raise the bar and make the effort more rewarding. I always wanted to play my whole show and see others do the same when I was in Lancers and in Buccaneers. It would be such a thrill to be in a line that deserves more recognition and finally to get it, create a buzz among your peers. It doesnt need to be formally judged at all, the players will know.
  15. 3/21 Sky's HoF I&E @ Garfield NJ 4/4 Rebel's Stinger @ Baltimore MD 4/18 W'shore's Serenade @ Harrisburg PA 4/25 St Joe's Classic @ Rochester NY 5/1,2,3 G.A.S. @ Baltimore MD 5/9? 16. parades are the $ makers! I wish I had known you were so short on drummers. I have to network more, stay more in touch. I am sorry I didnt know and might have been able to lift that burden somewhat with 3 Lancer drummers right here under 50. You guys did the Elks parade didnt you? Maybe Hanover Lancers can fill the spot you left open.
  17. Hi Bill, sorry it took me til now to discover you on here. I will send you an email at cox. It's frustrating that we voted as a corps to finally make the trek to Plymouth next year. We will try to keep the Celtic alive. Congrats on 12 years of drum corps as Light Brigade. Walt Biehn 27th Lancer '83 Reilly Raider '94-pres.
  18. international DJ Tim Wiles aka Uberzone did a short stint with VK, I could tell as he played electronic drums with a rudi style while DJing, we had a nice talk. He plays breakbeat style. My fav Spahn Ranch - Vortex (Uberzone remix)

  22. now that's the kind of pork I want to see added to the bill quick witted response
  23. I took the question to be enthusiastic about Blue Stars. Their show and their upward trek have been exciting, especially since it is a return to prominence. I am going to audition for Blue Stars and get cut when they find out I aged out 20 years ago. Ha, I would love to audition for this corps. Calling myself a Blue Star would a be a proud moment (that will never happen for me) but good luck to others who are of age.
