  1. Maybe ask the people at SCV? I'd think they would have a copy somewhere. They would take a donation I'm sure if they had a copy.
  2. I really enjoyed that arrangement of "Pop goes the weasel". The drumline had some nicely written parts. I remember hearing that drum line groove with that ride cymbal. Sweet!
  3. 1997 Whitewater show...during visual warmup in half uni's. God that was awful.
  4. Huh? No Sky Ryder Love? 83 Sky Ryders Also 74/75 Muchachos
  5. Definately a good read. Maybe for another topic on another day ---> How would 02 Cavaliers (or more recent corps, perhaps even a 6-12 placed corps)do in 1974 or 1983. Would they be penalized for pushing the envelope, or how would they fare in a tic environment.
  6. I guess I can understand having some sort of "one mindset - one look" for members. I wouldn't have liked it, but hey, "play the game" right? BTW, is this section short thing, some sort of quick way to do laundry? In the military we would label our first initial of our last name and the last 4 digits of our social security number. We had a couple guys do the laundry, and you always knew what was yours when it was clean. Example (T 4356) If thats the case, and everyone for one section wears one color, that would cut down on laundry day costs I would think, and would ease up on the crowded drum corps laundromat since only one person from one section needs to go. Better yet have the staff do it...hehe yeah right. Seriously...I know our staff dry cleaned uniforms every so often.
  7. I always enjoyed pre show prep. I'd like to think it was the calm before the storm. Focused visual block, and brass warm up, and a nice quiet walk to the stadium.
  8. Shure E5c MSRP: $549 If you can afford these earphones, get them...they really open up the dynamic range. I got a pair, and I listened to the 2002 Cavies show, and it blew my mind. Its the closest thing to a live performance that I've heard (and I did hear that hornline live several times that season) Put these puppies in your iPod, toss those stock white iPod earbuds and you will cry with joy. Here's a link: http://www.shure.com/PersonalAudio/Product..._pa_E5c_content
  9. What a great time I had. I really enjoyed every minute of it. When I heard about the project I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Thank you to those people that made it happen. I really tried to make a conscious effort to get to know the past members. I mean, it was good to see the guys I marched with and reminice about those days, BUT, I really wanted to learn from the older guys. It was fun to hear the stories or comments like: "our spats had shoelaces on them", Or "one time in 1968...", heck I on the bus on the way to Camp Randall stadium we all sang the bus song, and learned an older version from back in the early 70's. Good times! I also have to say that the party at the Stadium Bar on Saturday was off the charts. It was an all day party!!
  10. Here here, more samba. Has anyone heard the second track off of Dizzy Gillespie and the United Nations Orchestra (live recording in London). There is a pretty neat classical clarinet solo that transitions into an awesome samba piece. I think the track is Seresta-Carmen. Check it out.
  11. I was scrolling through the tv stations the other day and the "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" was on. There is a scence where the hero and his friends fight a knife weilding (claymation) monster with six or eight arms. Anyways, I think that is where the music came from for the sword fight on the rotating drum rack. Good times. Great show. The crowd went absolutley bonkers when it rained during a couple shows during the season. Good memories.
  12. I'm going to go out on a limb and say City Scape by Jennifer Higdon: Cadets 2008 Check it out on iTunes. Although I voted 91 Star...mello extravaganza
  13. "Even with a college degree you can retire from the Corps as musician, more than likely you won't pass the rank of Sergeant though." Really! As in E-5?? 20 years in the corps for basically no promotion opportunities? That doesn't seem right...especially since if you have a college degree you could probably enter at minimum, E-3.
  14. Hehe...my buddy who never liked the Cavies always said the final drum quote in their 92 show stood for: please stand up! please stand up!! Please Stand Up!!! Please Stand Up!!!! PLEASE STAND UP!!!!! Funny stuff. Great show BTW.
  15. So I was watching some late 80's early 90's shows today. In particular, I watched 89 Devils, then later watched 90 VK. Has anyone noticed that the soloist from VK at the end of his "Singing in the Rain" solo, quotes the end of the 89 Devils "If we were in Love". I had to rewind it a couple of times to recognize the quote, but it was there. I can say with confidence that there is a "Mars" drum lick in a few of the mid 90's Madison shows. Also, (and I think this eventually got changed, and I'm not sure as to the truth of this, I had just heard about it second hand, and I havent checked out the show in a while). In 99 during the company front push near the end of Trial and Crucifixion, the drum line used to play a lick that spelled out "JCSS" in Morse code. J= Dot Dash Dash Dash C= Dash Dot Dash Dot S= Dot Dot Dot S= Dot Dot Dot Any other subtle moments you can come up with?
  16. Just separated from the military. Joined the USAF. Was stationed at Travis AFB in Nor Cal. The military was okay...somewhat challenging. I didnt find the transition too tough. TI's are a little more in your face, but its their job. I joined 3 years after I aged out. I left b/c I didnt find that fraternal atmosphere I was hoping for. (Maybe if I joined another service it would have been different). On the other hand, I wouldn't trade the military experience for anything. I was glad to serve. I've been lucky enought to travel to over 27 countries and just about all the 50 states (-3 or 4)
  17. I have an old VK shirt that looks something like that. Its got the logo and says The Velvet Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. "California Style". I got it on ebay. One of the coolest shirts is the infamous Madison "Lemon Squeeze" shirt. Quite a rare find if you get an original ('90). The shirts was also reissued to performing members of the Madison Scouts in 1998.
  18. Cool video. You should send a copy to the corps office. I bet they could use it for the souvie stand to play every once in a while. It would be a nice recruitment tool as well.
  19. Best DCI song to wake up to : 83 Madison Strawberry Soup
  20. Dig the flugel line...and I have a ton of respect for OSU. And BTW, thanks for those MSU marching band supporters!! I was in their E-flat cornet line for 2 years in the mid 90's. Tons of DCI talent comes out of MSU.
