  1. I just got the semifinalists/quarterfinalists DVD and The Academy's cymbal line stood out to me the most. Watch it and you'll see what I'm talkiing about. They never stopped running around the field, except maybe during the ballad. and by running i mean, RUNNING. check it out. SCV's cyms did this too but not quite as much. wow
  2. thats true. I know Vanguard 04 is based on the music as well as the story because the original orchestration was supposed to tell a story in the symphony. But the show was probably leaning more on the music side. It was definately one of my favorite shows. I voted music, cause even though telling a story and playing an idea are important, the whole idea comes down to the music and I believe that ends up working the best
  3. I tend to like music based shows the best, but some of each are good. Not sure if this topic has been discussed any time recently, and I'd like to see what people think
  4. the company front in 89 vanguard with Music of the Night. Holy cow.....
  5. consider the breathing gym, taught by Pat and Sam. That seems work with Phantom Regiment. That's why in my opinion they sound the best as a hornline.
  6. i dont remember seeing anyone over-hyping Crown or Bluecoats by saying they will win championships. Everyone just enjoyed their shows (probably) more than all the other corps... i know I did
  7. lots of people forget, or don't consider other corps into this other than the top 7. I don't know who all saw it this year, but musically I thought the Academy had the most difficult show. They played for 10 minutes of their show, nobody came even close to playing as much as them. Phantom played about 7 and a half minutes or so. Musically, The Academy had it the hardest, but drill-wise they had it quite a bit easier.
  8. its hard to judge points. But I highly doubt the scores would be inflated like this. If all top 9-12 corps were within a few points the scores would be lower overall... me thinks..
  9. Don't know how popular they are, but in my honest opinion, i liked the Academy's cymbal line better than SCV's this year. They were running around EVERYWHERE on the field
  10. nah, the newer drum corps audience would get bored.... unless the piece is really entertaining
  11. I have a feeling this could be a good thing: Having finals in the same spot for a while. The corps could build relationships with certain schools and not have to worry about searching for houseing for finals week the next year... if they take good care of the facility the first year, they will most likely be asked to return the next year. it could save some trouble down the road
  12. wow close poll. I'm gonna be honest: I personally beleived the cadets performed better than the BLue Devils. they just had design flaws (BD did too, but nothing as drastic), from the narration. Well i wouldnt call them flaws because they were meant to be and and interesting idea, I just don't think the judges, or very many people in the crowd accepted it into drum corps the way Mr. Hopkins expected. This, IMO, caused them their win.
  13. This subject is not a bad thing to talk about. You're discriminating against newbie's to the forum. Just so you know, that's not exactly the most welcoming thing to do. Even though I've been reading this forum Back on subject: What if each judge selected 10 fans to add up to a group of 50 or 100 or so, and put them in a little committee, similar to i guess the Electoral College. They would all vote for the corps most entertaining. I know some may be biased, but aren't judges biased too? Maybe not as much but there's always a little. For example, the Cadets this year. (Some people may disagree with me) But at least a little bit, in my opinion, i think their score was lower than it should have been (performance-wise), maybe stimulated by the narration? You never know. But thats just an opinion. THoughts? And i don't want no "you're a new member so I'm gonna say your stupid and pay no attention to you" like Cop here. I'm sorry but I just don't appreciate that kind of talk.
  14. So I've been thinking about this past year... what were we missing? Carolina Crown or Bluecoats up in the top three. In my honest opinion entertainment-wise they should have been in the top three. New Caption: Similar to General Effect, but I think they should add a caption that a judge analyzes the entertainment value of the show. Instead of general effect, the judge would analyze how the crowd reacted to the show, how much the crowd enjoyed the show. This would make a new strategy for every corps director, they would make an extra effort to please the crowd as well as the judges. What do you think?
  15. I agree. The academy's 2007 show was hurt by the characters. they did a good job, but I think it would have been better if it was all uniform... This show does sound awesome though. the cavaliers will probably have a really good year. maybe they will make another comeback
  16. Lets get 1000 people to vote and if they add woodwinds we boycott drum corps. (minor sarcasm)
  17. tell him to look it up http://www.dci.org/corps/ there and look around at all the corps, pick out a few that you think he would enjoy the most
  18. I've searched and I couldn't find if this peice has ever been used in Drum Corps. if not, this peice really should be used, it would be fantastic!! anybody heard it? what other songs that have not been used, SHOULD be used?
  19. well its a relief to know that there will be for sure a show... cant wait! It will just be really really really hot at the show if it doesn't end up being in university of Phoenix stadium dome
  20. i think the correct term would be flat 5? but i do agree it is used a LOT
  21. I dont think DCI has lost it's magic. It has just changed. The shows seem much more demanding to me now, than back when I marched. (thats not sayin it wasnt easy) but i think over the years the bar is getting set higher and higher. because of a faster/more competitive show, this probably causes more errors, and weaknesses to show.
  22. So I recently heard that the Phoenix Cardinals have changed their mind, DCI Phoenix regional will not be held in the cardinals brand new dome stadium. the cardinal's staff thinks the corps on August 4th will tear up the field and ruin it for the beginning of the football season. which means, DCI is looking for a new location. If a new location is not found soon they might have to cancel it all together!!!! what can we do about this!!? write a letter to the owner of the cardinals stadium politely asking to reconsider? maybe if he gets lots and lots of letters he might realize that we will not ruin or damage their field. what do you think we can do? **Plus, for all the corps members, if another location is found it will not be in a dome= no air conditioning... and this is arizona, my home... it gets 115 degrees in July/August.
