  1. We saw Joey in SA and were walking from the lot with him over to the busses and he had a great time and cajoled a rookie for being without a buddy. He had a great time with it. He is a great kid, Corkie.
  2. Hello Corkie and Tim (and Rosa too!) I really miss my Blue Star friends this year. They're doing so well. You should all be so proud! Congrats!
  3. Yanno, I've always enjoyed your posts but after tonight I realize you are just one heck of a great, decent fella. Thanks for the live reports and for being so positive and uplifting.
  4. My best advice is to involve your parents since you are a minor. Do you research and make the choice that is the best fit for you, your style and your budget. Have your folks talk to other parents too. They can offer some great insights that might not be apparant to marching members who are focusing on the product on the field. I've found most of the proud parents here are glad to offer opinions and insights. Also bear in mind, this is a large committment from you artistically, physically and emotionally but it's also a large financial investment so make a wise choice. Your maturity is an important consideration as this is hard work and requires full committment from members. Some corps are more appropriate for younger marching members. Make the choice that offers the level of supervision and care that you need at your age. I'd also be sure to check out the corps finances and make sure they are in order. Most are 501c orgs so the records are public. I also encourage you to check out how the corps that interest you treat their members and what their philosophy is on medical care, nutrition, training, physical care, sleep schedules etc. Talk to people who marched (there will be a TON of them on here after they return home from Indiana in a few weeks) and find out what they liked and didn't like about their corps experience. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find a home and lifelong friends in your journey.
  5. Don't forget the classics -- rice krispie treats. I make them in those big disposable roaster pans. You can press the first layer down into the pan, cover it with foil and add a second batch on top of that and cover that with foil and add a third batch. We usually do four pans this way and it makes 12 big batches which is enough to treat the whole corps. Maltomeal makes the fruity and cocoa pebble like cereal in the big bags which is economical and makes for fun variety. They're easily transportable and easy to make. Brownies or chocolate chip cookie bars can be pressed into a jelly roll pan (they make them in disposable aluminium) and baked in big batches to make it easy to take too. I also like to take fruit cobblers since you can make them in big batches and they are fruit but yummy but you have to be close by -- a scoop of ice cream on top is the coup d'grace too. Have fun!
  6. For what it matters, it was indeed a Bloo Free Day on Monday. Bluecoats and Blue Devils both took a free day on Monday at Grapevine Mills Mall in Dallas. My kidlet went and visited with friends from both corps there since we live a few miles away
  7. Probably because Finals are available for purchase on DVD in the DCI store.
  8. I see it kind of like talking during the coming attractions before a movie. So long as you're not screaming during the actual performance (Spank me/Shut Up!) or talking during the movie, if you will, then it seems fine to me and even within proper behavioral bounds though perhaps not quite decorous behavior. Seems to me a crowd that is enjoying the show and cheering on the corps is a good thing. I'll take an energy filled audience with an occasional outburst over a sparse but perfectly decorous one in a half-filled stadium at a show that's bleeding money and in danger of not being able to sponsor a venue the next year.
  9. So is there a gathering spot for between the afternoon and evening show for the DCP thirsty folks?
  10. Just for kicks I'll stir the pot a bit. I have no issue with fans enjoying a show, shouting out their appreciation and I have no issue with "they're always ready," because to me it represents that we-march-16 hour-a-day-no-we're-NOT-a-marching-band-and-we'll-take-the-field-and-show-you-how-bada**-we-are-NOW!" mentality but.......... If it's been done for years and years, when does it stop being an annoyance and become a tradition for an activity so steeped in tradition?
  11. There's a pretty cool short documentary called Hard Corps about a snare drummer for the Cadets and his audtion process. I caught it once on Sundance on cable when I was flipping channels and set it to DVR. It was from 2000 or '01 season I think but it still shows up from time to time. It's worth the effort if you can find it.
  12. Nice job Bluestars! Gotta love the 80 going into a Super Regional. Hope to see you all in San Antonio!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Done. That was easy. Here's hoping they recover the funds! Who's next?
  14. If you're sending voulunteers out to make food runs, perhaps and since Teal Sound isn't on a full out tour they may operate on a slightly smaller scale. I waited once or twice behind a bus/semi caravan waiting while a corps credit card was declined after gassing up and numerous phone calls were made to free them to go. Cash would have been a welcome blessing.
  15. I LOVE Pauly Shore and I realize that makes me uber uncool to admit it but Son in Law is comic genius!
  16. I know it makes for a difficult decision but I'd much rather see them miss a performance and maintain a degree of fiduciary responsibility than travel 1,300 plus miles if it's not in their best interests. I guess I lean that way since I was a Cap Reg 06 mom. Not startinganything. I'm just sayin.... And on another note, as a former Southeast Kansas girl who spent many a weekend in Hutchinson, have a wonderful show all.
  17. Geeze, I dream about drum corps too. Thank God I'm not the only one. (a little OT but last year I used to have this recurring nightmare too when all of the kids would come running to the food truck and I'd suddenly realize we had NOTHING vegetarian prepared and I was confronted with angry vegans. I'd wake up in a cold sweat. Yeah, I know it's goofy but so am I so it's a good fit)
  18. I'm going to have to vote no. Not because I have any moral problem with it but because it takes the uniqueness away from the joys of marching in DCA where adult beverages are the norm, not the exception and for this I am grateful.
  19. Congratulations Crown! Well done! And congratulations to the Blue Star friends and fans too! Great job! FCO!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. In the Bluecoats '07 show and still chasing that darned briefcase!
  21. Frontier Volunteer and Parent of MM 2005 Capital Regiment Volunteer and parent of MM 2006 Blue Stars Volunteer and parent of injured MM who didn't get to finish her season 2007 Fan forever
  22. I love the Blue Stars. They're doing so well it makes me want to bust my buttons (or should that be buckle?)No Buttons. is right since I never marched with them and I'm only a FMM parent, volunteer and a current fan) and talk about a nice group of kids with a great alumni and fan base? Is there any corps that can claim the love that La Crosse shows for their home team? I know many corps have strong hometown support but I have to say those La Crosse folks sure do have a place in their hearts for those special kids. FCO!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Blue Stars! I can't WAIT to hear you're taking the field on Saturday night!
  23. My vote, in recent history, goes to the sundial and a show title that many announcers pronounced as "Chimichanga" or some similar variation.
  24. Ho Jos? Does that mean...dare I say it.... BEDS? Seriously?
